Sup Forums at what point is injecting your fetishes into your work too much(besides the obvious "when it's shit"? Is there even an objective/inherent point?

When the story or characters go out of their way to be fetishized, rather than incorporating the fetish into the story.

For example, if there were a series about a little girl who, despite other options being available, would always run through a pack of dickwolves in order to get from Point A to Point B. The better option would be for the girl to already be the pack leader, and the dickwolves be under her control.

Are you exploring the implications of your fetish and its effects on the characters, or are you making wank material?

To illustrate,

Is your character getting mind controlled because they're vulnerable? They feel a lack of direction in their life, or they're deathly afraid of making a choice, any choice, in case it's the wrong one? How do they react to being robbed of their free will?

Or are they just hypnotized because you like swirly eyes?

People will always say you're injecting your fetishes into it if the character in question is female.

Chris Claremont is a great example of where the line is drawn. Like 75% of his stories have his fetishes in them, but maybe 25% go too far.

Like, there's nothing wrong with writing characters becoming infantilized if you can make a good story out of it, but when too much attention is on the fetish instead of the character the reader notices.

Rob's a stupid fucking cunt.

Is this thread about MissMelle or about WonderWoman

I wouldn't say there's such a thing as "too much", it's more of a question of when does it become trashy? Like, compare Salvadora to Bomango. Bomango is obviously a fetish comic for people who are into brown dominating muscle women, but it goes the extra distance to craft some fun personalities and character moments first and foremost. The cheesecake is just icing on top and an enticing way to draw people in for your writing, but they'll stay because the characters are fun and have shit going on. It's fetishy, but there's value underneath.
Salvadora borders more on the trashy side of things. It's just big butts in skimpy outfits for the sake of it, and whatever storyline is written will probably just be a vehicle to introduce more characters with big butts in skimpy outfits. It's trashy.

I say that as someone who can swing for both chubby girls and muscle girls. If you put it all out on the table, it's just softcore porn. That's fine if that's what you want to make, but don't pretend that it has any merit beyond that.

Related question to OP, at what point is injecting your political opinions into your work too much?

I'd say it's too much when it distracts from the main story you're trying to tell to the point that it's just as much about the fetish stuff as it is the actual story.

Ha. Nah, Bomango is just /ss/ or muscle girl fapbait. Nothing more, nothing less.

We all want to fuck bomango. That's it.

oh hey, J.

Bomango started out as fetishbait and then tried adding in characterisation and drama because the comic would yield diminishing returns otherwise. It's the same with many softcore/furry/comedy webcomics that start going through long story arcs and relying on misunderstandings and author tracts to stoke the flames of conflict and reader interest.

Welp, found a new webcomic to add to the list. Thanks user.

Depends on what you're going for. There's nothing wrong with making a fetish comic. If you pretend it's not then you've fucked up.

Also don't write dialogue like a japanese porn.

You ever get the sensation of deju vu?

Bomango is a fetish comic that has gotten worse when the writer thought he was an actual legitimate writer. It has no appeal outside of the /ss/ and muscle girl fapfuel and that's why the pre-reboot comics managed to keep threads alive until they went into autosage. Now the newest threads die in under 50 posts, the exception being the current page.

It's kinda sad.

Honestly never. There's always a niche to be had.
