Nah. But when you take a look at not so recent cartoons and shows, it becomes kinda obvious. It's all calming, yet still has it's fair share of conflicts, artstyles and settings are usually more down to earth but they still keep things interesting etc. The "German cartoons evolved from anime" thesis makes sense if you think about it.
