It just hit me that Ruby is leader because her teammates were loose cannons, bratty and full of doubt. 4 volumes later, Yang is still a loose cannon that knows it needs it's handler to not go full retard, Blake seems to actually want to try and act now and Weiss doesn't have nearly the mental fortitude Ruby has to keep going despite seeing hell and learning that was only a small taste of what could actually be coming.
