What is the Made in Abyss of Sup Forums media...

What is the Made in Abyss of Sup Forums media? What I mean is a particular kind of story where to solve an important mystery children go on a journey to a wild, dangerous and alien place from which nobody returns unchanged if they return at all. There is a constant sense the characters are in real danger and the adventure won't end well for them. Gorgeous art and an imaginative world a big plus.

Homestuck

I'm going to guess Bone? Maybe Beyond the Garden Wall?

thinking about reading that

is it good? i keep seeing it popping up everywhere on here

i enjoyed dungeon meshi and tower of druaga btw

Maybe Stand Still Stay Silent. There's some similarities there. SSSS has a sort of glacial pace.

>both series have good art
>both series have an interesting world
>both series have dangerous, cool monsters
>both series mostly ignore how dangerous it can be, threats are handled without too much issue
>both series suddenly change this feeling of safety when shit suddenly gets real and the creator shows that death or disfigurement is certainly not off the table

MiA is pretty good. The creator very clearly has a loli/shota thing (borderline porn sometimes), but otherwise it's pretty solid. It is not a happy series though.

Homestuck, no question.

Let's hope Made in Abyss doesn't go off track that badly. Though from what I gather it may already have started to. Bunnies seem to be the trolls of MiA.

Is Bone like Cerebus? Does it go from all right to great after a while? Because the first volume was just all right for me.

Bone is a pretty good comparison.

Not really. Bone is very consistent with quality through it's run. If it's not your thing, then it's not your thing.

I want to like this series but whenever I try to watch/read it I feel like there are times where I stumbled onto a talented fetish artist's transition to mainstream.

Like there's good art and an interesting premise, but you get to some scenes and you just know...

>hostile environment
>fantasy ecosystems
>origin mystery
>no home to return to
>real threats
>weird fanservice
Don't any oldfags here remember Elfquest?

There's nothing wrong with tying 12 year old girls up naked in leather straps suspended from the ceiling and whipping them a little as punishment for breaking school rules user, anything fetishy about this show is all in your head.

>just read the first chapter
>loli punished by hanging naked, rope tied
>"wah i am not interested in you, you don't even have pubic hair"

what the FUCK am i reading?

You say that, but I have seen a decent amount of people actually saying that those who get uncomfortable just have their minds in the gutter.

Did the artist ever do porn?

I mean, 50 years back it wasn't unusual for a kid to have their naked bottom exposed and spanked until it was red and raw as a punishment. I've never interpreted the naked hanging as fetishy so much as a severe punishment of a more medieval society.

I'd probably concede to that if it was more seriously conveyed as abuse, rather than being played up for laughs.

And if it wasn't preceded by the girl talking about how far she tried shoving a stick up the unconscious robo-boy's ass.

Vaguely reminded of that Infinity Train pilot. If it took its premise more seriously.

In a way I think it works to the stories advantage. By having it go hard and sexual enough to the point where you start questioning the author himself works more to make it feel uncomfortable. And it provides a nice counterbalance the main desire: on one hand you want to see what's at the bottom, on the other you're worried about what fucked up thing will happen next.

Was it played for laughs? Maybe its just my advanced 'tism but this seems rather innocuous. Not very much weird about children of that age being curious seeing eachother naked. And Riko being curious to the point of serious invasions of personal space, that's just her character.

The hanging naked thing actually makes sense because of the setting. You fall and get stuck in ropes the feeling is more than uncomfortable. It’s creepy, but it feels like a punishment that has a reason besides pedoshit.

fuck off weebs

But it doesn't really serve any purpose. If it was something that emphasized an element of genuine fear or resentment of the orphanage and maybe helped explain why she was so willing to run away and jump in the suicide hole than it'd be one thing. But it's just kind of, there...

It's worth the read just for the suffering, that sweet, sweet suffering that those children live through.
Anyway the answer is Stania, a French comic in where people went down a hole until they found hell

fuck off with your pedoshit

This shit got me into loli/shota, I just found the two characters obliviously exploring their sexualities something cute, but didn't find it exciting.

Read up to the great cow race

If you dont like it by then you can stop

Reg is cute

Obviously Homestuck.

Bunnies = trolls

>Stania, a French comic in where people went down a hole until they found hell
Do they suffer?

Don't forget a prevailing feeling that the creator draws shota porn.

kys weeb

Insightful post. I hate to say this, but I agree with you. Maybe it is a loss of innocence thing.

Yes, a lot.

Thanks for the tip. I will.
