Good! I hated that family man thing Whedon did with Hawkeye. It undercut what came before (implied relationship with Black Widow) and since we didn't know anything about the family and they came out of nowhere it made Hawkeye unrelatable and made it seem like we never knew him. At least having vengeance as a motive will make Hawkeye more interesting.

My argument isn't that it doesn't make sense, it's that it's bad for the character. We should be seeing him grow and develop as a character and make relationships on screen. Him having this double life that's super important to him and this woman he loves that we don't know the first thing about just makes us feel like we know the character even less. Besides him being secretive about his relationship since he's a spy doesn't make sense as an excuse for why we as the audience haven't seen them before.
