What is she, /swco/?

The scenes with Chewie and the Porgs made me smile.

My heart hurts, anons. I miss the EU.

>"Anakin, please. You're going down a path I can't follow."
>"Please don't do this, Ben. Please don't go this way."
That whole confrontation was a masterstroke, honestly. And this was poetry at its finest.

Quints confirm that flatlets are virgins

The EU is shit, so fuck you.

...

The EU is indeed shit but everything about the ST is shit as well.
I guess Kylo is kind of okay-ish and the Phasma comic and book have been quite decent
Very nice.

>Implying Ezra would run away from an opportunity to get laid

Wait seriously does Luke die? How?
And without a real lightsaber battle?

Seriously why the fuck do people hate on the EU as a monolith? There are thousands of stories in it, some of then are factually fucking good.

/swco/ is very contrarian and autistic about canon

Probably because the bulk of it is fanfiction-tier autism - especially the Mando wank

Is it true the movie is cartoony/campy/silly?

I would rather have had more JJ then that fucking shit. He at least made things sleek & tangibly real feeling.
Mother fuck.

>fanfiction-tier autism
This means nothing to me. Talk like a normal fucking person.

The more and more i think about the movie the more conflicted i get. Rey/Kylo really was only the part i liked the most about the movie.

He just passes away staring into the sundown
Without a real lightsaber battle yes.

I asked this before but it got lost in the shuffle: did this one manage to succeed in fixing the issues with the writing for Rey?

It's not really real, but it's real enough
I liked the way they decided to do that to be honest, one of the movie's saving graces

Most of the new hate towards the EU comes from people who know nothing of it personally outside "goodfriendposting" threads with Wookiepedia articles and its general association with old-definition-nerds -pedantic, autistic fuckwads who argue endlessly about canon and small details

The Rey/Kylo stuff was the best part of the movie and it was good. But in doing so it came at a great cost.

I'd say so. She's still a Chosen One, but she does make actual mistakes in the context of the story and she doesn't resolve everything herself. Luke doesn't even really grow to like her that much by the end of the movie.

The only way you could still be butthurt is if you're mad that she can hold her own in a fight.

WHAT HOPES DO YOU HAVE LEFT? Seriously!

> Boba Fett movie happens.
- It's fully serious toned.
- It's him in his prime or after escaping the Sarlacc NOT as a inexperienced teen. People have turned him into a joke as is with his death & lack of acomplishment in the OT, we need to see him onscreen being a sinister ultra fucking badass that criminals fear comparably to the Punisher.
- Denis Villeneuve directs & gives it the same style & tone as Sicario.
- If not him then Cary Fukunaga.

The main problem with the ST is instead of growing from the previous 6 episodes, it just knocked down everything and attempted to start back at zero. We A New Hope again. Problem is, A New Hope, even before the prequels, was never designed to have a beginning. It was quite literally a movie that starts in the middle of the action. So now we're stuck seeing the aftermath of trying to begin VII the same way as IV even though VI did not end the same way as III. And now the ST is going to not only have inherent issues just trying to bring its own story to a logical wrap-up, but its going to have very tough and overriding issues trying to feel like it makes any sense within the context of the 9 saga whole. I have a feeling it's going to feel a lot like THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, in that it tries to force the seemingly unrelated stories of BB and TDK into the first two acts of a retroactive trilogy. "See, this stuff is related, sorta."

Nah
For some reason, they decided to have ANOTHER scene of Poe ""bantering"" with cringeworthy """humour""" breaking a tense scene right at the start, but that's about it
Luke does a couple of silly things but they're actually humourous à la OT
Here and there you have occurrences of basic deadpan like "expect glorious scene, failure happens" but only with Poe, Finn and Rose -you won't see le Marvel quip where EVERYONE has to do witty remarks

That nine, in some way, makes the ST feel like a proper ending to the nine episode Star Wars saga and doesn't just fizzle out, barely even bringing its own trilogy to a close.

youtube.com/watch?v=hEwdViZZsAw

So this is how star wars as we knew it ends.. With thunderous applause

They basically split Rey's TFA characteristics in two: she's still the very strong in the Force untrained power user and a good fighter (and pilot) but they toned that down with telling us something about why she's that strong and adding her whole journey with her insecurities and Luke's training
The whole "headstrong female protagonist with steel morals to the point of being antagonistic to the other characters" deal was given to Rose, who in turn doesn't have any special powers so she feels more like an actual character since she's given a backstory and such

>The whole "headstrong female protagonist with steel morals to the point of being antagonistic to the other characters" deal was given to Rose

She was only real antagonistic to Finn when she thought he was trying to desert the fleet and Planet Casino for reminding her of her shit childhood.

Other then that she was pretty chill.

I can't fucking believe we are getting a Obi Wan Kenobi movie when we could be getting a stand alone film about Luke being a Jedi badass mother fucker.

That's great and all, but can anyone defeat

streamable.com/kslts
Lukas Azul?

>we are getting a Obi Wan Kenobi

>lose AT LEAST 70 to 80% of your forces in just two days including your entire leadership bar Leia
>completely unarmed, no ships, no base
>no support from other planets
>but it's okay because some kids will be telling Jedi legends now :^)
Bravo Rian

I'm just impressed that Rian stole the "tell me more stories of the Shepard" scene from ME3 and made it not shit.

Shit, it really is "tell more another story about the Shepard" isn't it
I'm a cynical old guy who could tell what was going to happen as soon as the master scatters the kids and only the one with the broom stays, I was going "oh for fuck's sake Disney" in my head but I'll be damned if that scene doesn't work
It doesn't matter how cheap it might seem, it's a good sendoff from the movie that brings out its main heart about the sense of legacy, hope and universality of ethical choices.
I know there will be people who won't like the ride of the Giant Bulls in Casino Pamplona but I found it very powerful with the whole "energy that comes from breaking the chains" motif

Wish we would've seen a scene like this in star wars with people from all over the galaxy coming together in their ships to wipe out the first order once and for all and bring balance.
youtu.be/tLlAObjR-gs?t=136
2:22 if the video don't automatically take you there. Don't tell me you wouldn't like to see it

So how are we all feeling about Rians trilogy now

I'm actually interested to see what he does, if it really is set in a completely unexplored time/place.

>It doesn't matter how cheap it might seem, it's a good sendoff from the movie that brings out its main heart about the sense of legacy, hope and universality of ethical choices.

Star Wars was always cheap, it's B-movie in its heart and TLJ understood that perfectly.

>I know there will be people who won't like the ride of the Giant Bulls in Casino Pamplona but I found it very powerful with the whole "energy that comes from breaking the chains" motif

It reminded me of Obi-Wan riding the space iguana too much. I was getting ROTS PTSD.

>i can only get so erect.png

This is the most stylistically interesting movie of maybe the entire saga on a direction level, outside of ANH. Lord knows what he's going to do when he gets a whole feast to himself.

The entire sequence in Snoke's lair felt like a battle out of Excalibur. I never expected a fight and confrontation that purely cinematic in this series.

depends how far away from the original story it is. If it can exist self-contained, then it should be a great watch.

Also, anyone else feel like Luke will still be teaching as a force ghost?

Like I said, if JJ can play it safe and go with "Rey, even with what she feels for Kylo, still would be duty first and tries to kill or talk to him, while Kylo all the while was protecting everyone, which is why he took leadership, for the galaxy to unite against him." -he could salvage the ST accidentally

> while Kylo all the while was protecting everyone, which is why he took leadership, for the galaxy to unite against him.

That sounds awful. Just let Kylo be the fucking villain, his arc is done.

Luke's final message clearly foretells his eventual turn.

He probably should have been working with his own trilogy from the start rather than with the ST. His ideas might be good for a standalone film but as a sequel not only to the ST but to the OT as well his changes are rather jarring.

I don't care anymore. They raped the setting. It's over.

Force Quints checked.

I just noticed that they made Phasma's armor blasterproof in this movie, when in TFA she allowed herself to be held at blasterpoint. Why the fuck would she do that if this movie shows it would just bounce off? It wasn't the armor breaking bowcaster trained on her. Fuck.

I'm thinking we'll timeskip ahead, Resistance recruits some rando force sensitives since they're all out of ships and their only choice is to go straight for Kylo. He gets the Knights of Ren back together and it's essentially one long battle/mission to kill Kylo. Hux betrays him and helps the Resistance, or something. JJ don't got many options.

They lost 99% of the force. They are left with Falcon and like 10 people.

So with two movies under both of their belts, which of the pair is the better neo-Luke Skywalker for the age?

Snoke's death was pretty ok, but will NEVER be as brutal or fucked up as THIS.

>Gets both hands cutoff and then decapitated and severed head rolls on the ground.
>Plus you see the hands still on the ground too.

I'm kinda curious how Ron Howard will handle Solo.

what the fuck. the new movie sucks dick.
RIP star wars
how are you anons dealing with it?

A realistic CGI animated film in the vein of the cinematic Star Wars trailers about Luke after RotJ. Have Hamill voice & Mocap.
> Too expensive!
If mother fucking Resident Evil & Final Fantasy can get such films Star Wars sure as fuck can.

gonna risk movie spoilers, but shit man

Did anyone else get vibes that Kenndy wanted the Thane D? This guy is just swimming in delicious brown.

in this age of chaos and TLJ stuff it's nice to see a constant
have i told you i love you

What the fuck are you talking about? Who's Thane?

Why did luke had to live and die in such a shitty way?

>This is the most stylistically interesting movie of maybe the entire saga on a direction level, outside of ANH. Lord knows what he's going to do when he gets a whole feast to himself.
He's a good director who understands what makes a scene work and especially characters' interaction.
That said, The Last Jedi definitely was NOT the movie he should have directed. Too many action scenes -that are not his forte- just because of course any SW must have lots of those, most of the movie is shot in interiors and every Poe/VA scene looks boring and most of all I'm under the impression that some of the cuts only came pretty late -most of the jumps between Rey's and Poe's storylines just looked awkward and bad.
I miss Lucas' curtains, it's sad to think that if TLJ had them they would be annoying for making you aware of how many times the story in the second part just keeps jumping from one storyline to the other every 3 minutes without moving forward at all

>I miss Lucas' curtains

No wipes in this one?

No, there's wipes.

And a lot of weird fades at some points.

Where were you when the prequels became pieces of art?

Luke Skywalker wishes Ben Solo a good night

HELP ME SNOKE, SKYWALKER IS TRYING TO TAKE OVER!

Not in whatever alternate dimension you're living in.

It'll be fun to see the "At least they were made by someone with a VISION" people start backpedaling now that they have to shit on TLJ and that was clearly all Johnson.

>it doesn't count because Disney reeee

I love the prequels and The Last Jedi :^)

>I love the prequels and The Last Jedi :^)

At least you're consistent. You do you.

Reminder, Han Solo's Death was pointless and meaningless.

Also Rey is is fake Tsundere bitch that pretended to give a shit about Han's death.

This but unironically.

But I'm not ironic, I've started to appreciate all the wacky stuff that George made and how dumb TLJ is. I honestly felt like I was on drugs and hallucinating while watching TLJ, I honestly only remember the Rey and Kylo scenes.

They killed Han because that's what Ford wanted for decades.

Rian was a fucking mistake. At least JJ's movie was fun to watch.

>JJ
>fun

Fuck off.

They both fucked up.

TLJ was kino m8

Tomorrow once the rest of /swco/ sees TLJ this thread will love it more than hate it. It will be a reverse of the past few days. Today it's already at like 50/50 but tomorrow the love for TLJ will be at like 70-80%.

...

>guess that Luke would've sensed that
>he didn't because "he completely closed his senses to the Force"
>Chewie informs him of that
>really sad look
>that's it, he doesn't mention it ever again
If anything it was Rey who brought that up in her mental connection with Kylo, most distraught

I loved it. Sup Forums are faggots.

This is the end

Sup Forums are a bunch of contrarian faggots that worship capeshit, you see more film discussion on freaking /his/ for God's sake.

Just watched the movie and it was pretty nice. Just so you know, I've seen all SW movies. Didn't liked the OT and Ep I and II but my favorite SW movie is Episode III. Liked TFA and thought RO was shit until the last act.

>master race

To like VIII you're going to care at least a bit about Star Wars and its lore but not too much, it's weird

Correction: They worship any capeshit that's not Marvel

Not really. Porgs are mostly funny background events, Poe has a "witty" scene at Hux's expense, and Finn does the Jar Jar routine during his first appearance, but nothing else. Luke's humor, like the other user said, is OT-like.

It's the "darker" parts of the film's writing that are terrible, really.

WE

>Poe has a "witty" scene at Hux's expens

>Rian Johnson actually started a Star Wars movie with a your mom joke

the absolute madman

Then again this is the guy who went on a podcast to read erotic fanfiction of the hosts, so his sense of humor is pretty well-established.

WUZ

>Porgs are mostly funny background events
>Chewie killed roasted a Porg
>not going to eat it because d'aaww
So in the end he killed and roasted it for fun?

sub- races get out REEEEEE

>yfw Star Wars becomes the new Sonic the Hedgehog in terms of the shit outnumbers the good so much for so long that people forget that it was ever good

You could see Snookie's hand still lying on the throne too.

I'm not sure if I'm happy that this poser is dead or frustrated by the fact that nothing was explained about who he is, why does he look like that and how did he take over the Imperials.

>I'm not sure if I'm happy that this poser is dead or frustrated by the fact that nothing was explained about who he is, why does he look like that and how did he take over the Imperials.

Meh, I can't bring myself to care.

Playing SWBF II (2005).

how would /swco/ react to a very active force ghost Luke, as in he's an active member of the group?

Weirdest fucking taste ever.

Still a better villain than Steppenwolf
even just the bottom half

Yes, I think he killed two Porgs, but after they kept staring at him couldn't eat the meat.

After that you see them at backgrounds of Falcon, in the mountains etc. Well, and the Porg cry from the trailer.

>how are you anons dealing with it?
thinking should I start re-reading the EU or make fan storys, maybe just give up and go back to gundam

TLJ was disappointing, further tainted the RotJ happy ending and lacked that Star Wars magic that 1-6 and RO had.
3>RO>4>1>5>6>2>tcwm>8>7 for me.
Not looking forward to Ryan's trilogy. I hope Filoni gets a chance to direct a future movie or they recall Gareth.
