What went wrong?

What went wrong?

It wasn’t that good.

I liked it, but steampunk isnt popular with kids.

It was easily the best Disney movie to be produced

it didn't get a book series.

that's your answer

...

Not enough Amelia

Underrated af

The writing.

X2

I don't know but youtube keeps telling me it's shit

The video said it was good you faggot

It was marketed towards Teens and Sci-Fi geeks. Both demographics probably would not be interested in anything Disney (at least at the time). It's too dark and gruesome for parents to want to take their kids over and over again. The funny sidekicks barely show up. If I remember, Morph barely gets any screen time, Doppler isn't cute and cuddley, and B.E.N. doesn't appear until 2/3 into the movie.

I don't watch clickbait so I wouldn't know

Because its Treasure Island in space without muppets

>B.E.N.
Literally the reason I hated this movie, even as a kid
Shit was so insufferable not even that little faggot could dethrone it as the most annoying robot in the entire history of dumb robot sidekicks

Fuck

I don't see how that's clickbait.

Marketing and poorly timed release.

So it was Black Cauldron 2.0?

Well there were 17 years between the two, so we should be on track for Disney to make another dark animated film in 2019

Nothing went wrong. This is now an Amelia thread.

>the fart monster
>maybe B.E.N.
And that's it

>we will never get Treasure Planet sequel
>we will never get Atlantis tv series
>we will never get Road to El Dorado sequel
every animated movie i like gets shat on
fuck

Don't you dare compare this masterpiece to that piece of shit

>Alice in wonderland got a "dark and gritty" reboot that was more tame than the original kids version
>And it got a sequel

stupid extreme sports pandering

>treasure island
>no books

It had such an influence on some guy he turned his hand into an abomination to be like John Silver

Also remember some deviantautist who was obsessed with Silver also. Lots of fanart of her selfinsert and him together

Same happened to this

She was lucky that fall didn't take out her legs..

...

So I guess it's fair to say that if it ain't Star Wars it won't sell (regarding animated sci-fi movies)?

Disney didn't support it enough, it's a solid 8/10 animated classic.

Star Wars isn't sci-fi, but yeah

Yes, it's very clearly a romantic comedy (albeit with some historical fiction elements)

can humans as a species just put a cap on alice in wonderland related media, we don't need any more.

No, I want an Alice Madness 3

>Le Hidden Gem Syndrome: When an overall well made but obviously flawed film and/or show is a critical and/or financial failure causing its devout snowflake fanbase to inflate it's quality in a defense against no attack

Star Wars is space fantasy.

You mean American McGee's Alice? If yes, I heard he's making a third game named Alice: Asylum

Shit.
No joke. I was planning to watch either TP or TAE.
Which one should I rewatch?

Both. TAE first.

fag syndrome: when anons try to be double contrarians while compulsively using "ironic" memes and accusing other people of being snowflakes

Good one

we are not on tvtropes you fagotron

>was incredibly expensive because of the new techniques used throughout the movie on the ships etc
>released in direct competition with Harry Potter after a pisspoor marketing campaign, likely to just make the money back and discourage such extravagance from animators in the future
>limited mass appeal in that it wasn't a princess musical
Take your pick.

This was one of the best scenes of the movie, i heard many complains about why the movie was set in space, and my answer is always: why shouldn't be? this is even more exciting than any generic and boring movie set in the sea with generic and boring sea pirates.

...

You know, I heard/read about this prevailing thing with furries, that, sure Amelia's super hot, but most people find that it's a hassle drawing her.
Especially the face.

>Especially the face.

Yeah, very few artists I've seen have gotten her face right. And that's based on what little fanart and porn there is of her.

It was good but it wasnt something parents were used to along the lines of childrens entertainment so few probably saw it as appropriate to bring their child to see. Same could be said for the kids themselves, it's an odd genre so a lot of kids probably wouldnt know how to feel about it at first glance

>but most people find that it's a hassle drawing her.
>Especially the face.
it seems furries can't draw anything that doesn't have the "standard wolf snout" face

It just came out at the wrong time.

What kind of music do you think Amelia likes?

B.E.N. only appears in two scenes. He's lame, but not that obtrusive.

Synthwave, Jazz and Classical.

ben was annoying but probably most of all it just had less mass appeal.

however it feels like a lot of people i know who have seen it also become more attached to it than your average disney movie. if there ever was such a thing as a "cult classic disney film" from the modern era this'd likely be it.

i mean fuck just having an interesting and likable villain made me like it.

Hm. Jar Jar Binks was not a unique sin of Star Wars'; that sort of character was a plague going around at the time.

It probably looked great for it's time but all the CG just stands out like a sore thumb against the 2d characters.

These two and The 5th Element are in the group of Sci-Fi/Fantasy films that came out right at the same time as the prequels, LotR, & Harry Potter, so no one gave a damn about them when they were in theaters, but were really good when you saw them either on a Sunday afternoon, or Thursday night at 1:30.

>video said it was good
>titled "Disney's Biggest Mistake"
How is that not clickbait?

I hated that robot character even as a kid. Grating to listen to and grinds the plot momentum to a halt. I haven't watched in years but I remember losing interest as soon as he came on the scene.

It has fantastic animation, but something seems unappealing about some of the character designs+color palette choices especially when lined up with other Disney movies. Look at Lilo & Stitch, which was released the same year and also had aliens, and you can instantly tell which feels more "classic".

That said, I remember liking the movie overall because of the complicated villain dynamic.

As and point out, 2D movies weren't delivering enough bang for their (increasing) buck, and, if that video is to be believed, Disney might have intentionally sped up the process, since they wanted to justify moving on to 3D movies.

I don't think it's emphatic enough to qualify for clickbait, at least by my definition of it. There's no ALL CAPS, no exclamation or question marks, no emojis or arrows or other crap on the image, no inflammatory wording. If it's clickbait, then it's very understated clickbait indeed.

I guess it's referring to how much of a mistake Disney made in not giving the movie a chance.

...

But why are they in space? There's no reason for them to be in space!

Two words: flying sailboats.
