Money

Yo is that Joey Fatone????!!!!

Why is Pearl a black woman?

Why not? It's pretty good.

You guys think that sponge has a nice boipucci?

Because Spectrum dropped Nickelodeon.

It is...kino.

The Pearl/Mr. Krabs duet is pretty catchy.

Sandy is black?

It's actually really good. I was genuinely surprised.

Nick is terrible.

Is this by the guy who did Courage the Cowardly Dog?

better question would be why is Sandy black

...

>Sandy isn't played by Skin Diamond
DROPPED

>wait, what is this?
>what is this...
>wait that's plankton back there... is this?
>oh god

Squirrels are literally brown

Is that Guy Fiatte playing Mr. Krabs?

>not wanting to see a Squiward gijinka tapdancing with four (4) legs.

>youtube.com/watch?v=9HObbvrlYEA

It is... surprisingly good.

Isn't it actually really fucking good?

Fuck you OP this was good. Literally the only musical I paid to see.

The afro makes it look like her helmet

>"Wont you get here, my friend?"
>"Bring my sunshine back again."

No. It's by Phineas and Ferb's Jeff "Swampy" Marsh.

Elvis Costello and Diane Krall are Pete's parents. Elvis even does the theme song.

She's an adopted whale (black women are often fat).
She's from the south.

It's a weird mix of "Money" from Cabaret and "Tommy, Can You Hear Me" from Tommy.

I dig it.

No, the better question is why does Sandy have a fucking afro? Does this take place during the 70s? Is she going to use karate on some cracker-ass jive turkeys?

The afro is meant to represent her air helmet.

Better question is when is it going to start touring. or do broadway musicals need to reach a certain popularity before they can go on a nationwide tour?

Yeah, it's got mostly positive reviews.

Someone post the link to the Chicago bootleg.

The cartoon character isn't lack. They don't have much of a shelf life in Texas. Just someone having a giggle.

>he didn't see the porno

>or do broadway musicals need to reach a certain popularity before they can go on a nationwide tour?

Depends on if the show has longevity, how popular it is, and financial success. Some Broadway shows don't tour until the Broadway production closes, but more successful productions often send out tours while they're still running (Lion King, Hamilton, Aladdin, Wicked, Kinky Boots, even School of Rock, etc). It also depends on whether or not the producers think a tour will cut into the Broadway profits, since it risks people going "oh hey we don't need to go to NYC, the tour is coming here." Sometimes the producers will want to wait until the Broadway show closes so they can re-use set pieces, props, costumes, etc--this is usually for the struggling shows.

Spongebob, despite a positive reception, is doing pretty bad right now. It's been open for 6 weeks and the highest gross percentage potential it reached was 65% of its total potential. Every other week it's been between 46 and 52 percent. That's reealllly bad for a show that just opened, especially in Thanksgiving and winter break season. Its first week opened at only 50% of its gross potential.

I could see them closing soon and then throwing out a tour hoping to try to make back production costs before opening up limited regional rights or maybe even jumping right to community and high school theater rights.

I hope Nickelodeon will at least release a HD filming of it like it was done with Shrek a couple years ago.

Sandy's a girl?

>Songs by They Might Be Giants, Jonathan Coulton, Steven Tyler, and fucking David Bowie
>Patchy the Pirate is played by the guy who sang Turn It Off in Book of Mormon
>Plankton is a tiny handpuppet operated by a guy in a green labcoat with an eyepatch
>Karen is an asian lady who wheels around a computer monitor

This sounds fucking great desu

Any chance that's because the idea is fucking absurd, and it'll pick up as word starts getting around?

I honestly don't understand why more shows don't do this after they've finished their run.

Everyone was talking about how Spider-Man was a financial bomb, like they wouldn't have recouped a decent amount with a Blu Ray release.

I saw Spider-Man in person before it ended and it's definitely the kind of thing that deserves to be preserved; not everyone is gonna shell out hundreds of dollars to see it live, but I know plenty of people who would drop $10-20 on a home release.

It's more like families would rather take their kids to see The Lion King, Aladdin, Charlie in the Chocolate Factory or even Anastasia over Spongebob due to the perception of how annoying the cartoon is and the idea that it'll be a musical for very little kids. If I were planning a trip with my family, I'd rather take my kids to see something that I think won't be like a glorified "Sesame Street... Live!" regardless of the fact that the show itself is getting positive reviews and doesn't actually come across that way.

Well, obviously. And that's why the opening is terrible. But word gets around.

>I honestly don't understand why more shows don't do this after they've finished their run.

Unfortunately, it's incredibly expensive to film Broadway shows and to secure all of the rights for filming and releasing it on home media, and the risk for not recouping is very high. And that's on top of the high expense to run the show in the first place, since very few Broadway shows every recoup their initial production cost plus the cost to keep it running every week.

Also, many producers are reluctant to release professionally filmed versions because it then becomes very easy for people to put on illegal productions or to copy copyrighted elements for legal productions (licensed community theater, high school, etc).

They should have picked a less annoying number to do at the Macy's Thanksgiving parade.

Once on This Island saw a huge ticket boost from the parade performance, as did Anastasia, although Anastasia was still doing solid anyway.

Because certain kids have 2 dads and this kinda shit reaches that demographic.

I can only hope that Nickelodeon will release the Broadway Recording of the musical. The new singers they got for Mr Krabs and Pearl seem great in some of the audio bootlegs.

Here's a Cam rip of the whole thing:

Other highlights:
>The songs are actually pretty good
>They use the frenchy narrator
Sound effacts are handled by a one-man folley artist, up to using the same squeaks the show uses whenever characters walk.
>They use the Time Cards
>They use "MY LEG!!"

>They use "MY LEG!!"
Well, now I have to watch this.

I think it looks charming as fuck. I love the stage effects, costumes, and lighting

Too bad I hate "Broadway musical" music but I know why they went that direction.

>Sup Forums doesn't understand theatre picks the most capable person for the role instead of basing it on race
Color me shocked

most of Sup Forums has probably never seen a broadway musical tbqh

Love watching the rehearsals.

Dude who plays Patrick looks like a comfy bro.

I can't imagine sandy as nothing else but a brown girl, and that porn didn't helped too.

>delicious brown
>heavy southern accent
Nnnnnngggh.

>extra legs on squidward's costume move
holy shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit so cool

>Sandy helmet is the afro
>Mr. Krabs boxing gloves
>Plankton eye-patch and dictator outfit
It actually pretty decent

Obligatory

So, Sup Forums is it actually good and we’re all wrong? Or are we just gonna say its so bad it’s good and claim we were right all along?
Or is it just bad.

Pretty much every post in this thread has said that it's good, or that it at least looks good. You could try reading the thread. You realize that's an option?

It's actually good, senpai. I initially hought it would be a brainless cashgrab, but it's a good show on its own.

Just watch this part:

>youtube.com/watch?v=G2NYAWxNpEw

It was actually pretty fucking good OP. I had a good time seeing it.

Ah, meant to link to this video, sorry.

youtu.be/L056Jxew_hc?t=1h43m5s

>implying people on Sup Forums haven't watched the camrip of The Book of Mormon

They got rid of the shorts and knee socks for the Broadway version and just gave him pants. Kind of sad.

Never thought a Spongebob musical would work but here we are. Now the question is can they make the musical based of a cartoon into a episode of the cartoon? I'm interested in a Spongebob musical episode. How good will Tom Kenny and co act, and sing? How much money will Nick spend getting rights to licensed songs. They only have two songs that they already own. The theme song and Best Day Ever so what else can they get?

It might better just to have an episode where the musical cast gets to cameo VA. Maybe they're making a movie based on the residents of bikini bottom and the musical cast can voice the "actors" playing the main cast.

I thought this was a ton of fun, despite the music, lyrics, and script not being great. I think having the main "antagonist" be an environmental/non-personified object really doesn't work on stage. But the staging was incredible. the Rube Goldberg machines, the neon sponge choreography, and Squidward's tap made it all worth it. The only song still in my head is Bikini Bottom Day, which is a legitimately great Broadway song.

7.5/10

>Why are all these fishes singing
>The specific segment linked

Only watch Disney musicals.

Do not watch Dreamworks musicals.
Do not watch Nickelodeon musicals.
Do not watch Cartoon Network musicals.

Only Disney should be allowed to make musicals.

She's from the south..... so that makes her black?...

>They use "MY LEG!!"
Holy mother of God

Good. Another Sponge to add to the games.

Kill yourself.

Not many blacks form the north

I like how it looks like they're all starting at his penis

Just watch the 2nd christmas special

>implying Sup Forumsmrades aren't huge musicalfags.

You'd be surprised.

I still cannot this existed. We sure live in magical times.

>The Chum Bucket doubles as a swivel-chair for Plankton

Sup Forums probably assumes the essence of a character comes from their race and race alone and anyone of the same colour is a perfect fit

it's funny because Sandy is brown in the cartoon

thats pretty dope, any pictures of Patrick?

...

I love it. That’s brilliant.

It is unironically one of the highest praised musical which came out this year.

Never been to Chicago or New York eh?

...

>which came out this year
much like its cast
