Is the Superman Animated Series worth watching? I hear there isn’t much of it. How influential was it to the mythos?

It's great. Fuck "influence" and whatever bullshit you're talking about

Apart from its terrible version of Brainiac it's a pretty fun show. It got me into the pulp sci-fi adventure part of Superman. As for its influence on the mythos, its biggest influence was probably on the villain Brainiac, as his motivation, MO, and some of his powers got adapted to the comics (his shit origin didn't though).

It's worth checking out.

Brainiac wasn't terrible

His origin as a Kryptonian AI is terrible and he did nothing but job bar his last appearance.

it has best Lois

...

She looks hot, that's for sure. This version seems to have the most porn. Is she as action-y as the Fleischer version?

I watched about an hour of those today which got me interested in a Superman mood.

>Is she as action-y as the Fleischer version?
more detective-esk, she chasses leads and stories and where they go which gets her into trouble

That's vital to her character. I mean, that's why she's in a runaway train shooting at criminals in that gif. For the story.

Cool. How's the whole thing hold up? I couldn't get into rewatching JL or B:tAS for some reason. It didn't click. I blame the early episodes of those shows not being great.

Muh DIC

...

Holds up better than BTAS tbqh

That's good and makes sense since it was later. Alright, definitely watching it.

it is great,i dont think is that influentialonthe mythos but overall is good

I think it's great my only complaint is Superman is way too weak.

DC should take note from One-Punch Man if they ever make another Superman cartoon.

it entertained me.

...

It’s phenomenal. The only reason it’s not as remembered is that B:TAS was the GOAT show. It was pretty influential on the comics for a while. Less so now. It’s only 4 seasons I think but a ton of plot points in JL carry over from S:TAS.
I always hear Corey Burton’s voice as Brainiac. I really liked that version.

>think it's great my only complaint is Superman is way too weak.
People bitch no matter what they do with Supes. Make him less powerful people bitch. Make him more powerful people bitch.

To be honest? TAS and Brave and the Bold (even while poking fun at the Superman is a Dick meme) are the last two times Supes has been portrayed in a positive light.

>Justice League has him poorly used if at all and he becomes butthurt as the series goes on thanks to Luthor purposely goading him.

>Superman Returns' set up is about how Superman *bailed* on Earth and a pregnant Lois even though my understanding is the film tried to be uplifting from that starting point.

>Man of Steel/BvS/(other) Justice League, et. all nothing but grimdark tryharding and while MoS ALMOST got shit right... It dropped the ball fairly quickly.

Apart from the amazing Fliesher studios shorts this is one series worth watching if you want to see Supes come out on top. Even if Superman makes mistakes, he's still ultimately sticking by his ideals and best of all this Superman FINALLY had enough of Darksied's shit and beat the almighty fuck out of him(not that that was EASY, but it was more of a payoff that JLU's "world of Cardboard" speech where he immediately got knocked around after stating.

...

Not a huge fan of his origin, but his VA is excellent and I like his MO a lot. I can take or leave his design. I suppose he does largely job but his later JL appearances are excellent.

Michael Ironside is still my favorite Darkseid.

LOIS LANE DONE RIGHT. fuck the DC movieverse. Fuck them all.

Her dress passes through her hand.

I consider STAS better than BTAS. I loved BTAS, it broke ground, but Superman was just the perfect iconic Superman in every way. Yeah his power level fluctuates a lot, but when hasn't that happened?

STAS villains are the best version of his villains. Has there ever been a more complete, more faithful, and more compelling version of Lex than the animated series Lex?

Superman even builds on it's episodes. There are continuing nods to things like the fortress of solitude growing from a place he keeps a Kryptonian computer to an actual alien zoo.

Plus you could pretty much not watch a single episode of BTAS and jump right to Justice League knowing "he's Batman". Justice League and Unlimited have sequel episodes though to things that happen in Superman.

>Apart from its terrible version of Brainiac it's a pretty fun show.
A million times better than JLA's version.

...

Did she forget she has heat vision here? She wouldn't even have to hit the meatbags directly, just don't let the situation get that bad for fucks sake.

>Teenage girl gets wrapped by tentacles

How much shit did Timm stick in the DCAU?

He and Flash needed the nerf to justify team ups. That and it was likely cheaper to animated a nerfed superman/easier to transition for writers used to Batman.

One Punch Man is a parody, wouldn't really work in a serious show.

...

It had a top tier Lex Luthor. Mercy Graves was cool too.

Writing any Superman is easier when you weaken him. He needs to be able to be staggered and only use superspeed sometimes to function as a protagonist in an action story. Rubble needs to momentarily incapacitate him.

Then again, I still have Fleischer cartoons on the brain where he ends up needing to trip a trex rather than just hurling it into space immediately.

>STAS villains are the best version of his villains. Has there ever been a more complete, more faithful, and more compelling version of Lex than the animated series Lex?
Their Metallo is the best Metallo.

>its terrible version of Brainiac

fuck off and take that green faggot with you.

You know what kinda irks me about Superman? He has super speed which requires super reflexes to be a usable power. Yet people still have him get hit by shots like that where he should clearly be able to dodge. Even if it catch's him by surprise his reaction time and processing speed should be so inhuman that he moves out of the way before the beam goes two feet. I can see kryptonite being used as an excuse in this example but it happens all the time without any influence of kryptonite or red sun radiation. And even cheap shots from behind shouldn't work with super hearing.

This is more of a minor annoyance for me though. I just needed to put it into words because I can't stop thinking about it whenever I see superman stories, even though I love the tone of the character done well. At the end of the day I understand that these rules need to be ignored sometimes to keep things interesting and tensions high.

...

If it’s any consolation Joker somehow sneaking up behind Batman with a bag of rocks and knocking him the fuck out without Batman noticing him irritated the fuck out of me as a kid. Plus Batman falling like three stories head first into a table without suffering brain damage. Gotta make allowances for storytelling.

This was great

omae wa mou shindeiru

...

I fucking love the show, but as my first introduction to Superman, it really soured Lois for me for a long time because of how she often belittled Clark while fawning over Superman.

It's even better with the patriotic score in the background.

Best moment coming through
m.youtube.com/watch?v=d0QVvbhMm24

...

That's how their relationship usually starts out, but do think the show did Lois a disservice by never really developing her and Clark's relationship. It doesn't help that we never see Clark in JLU, outside of that time he invited J'onn to Christmas.

Should have "accidentally" burnt through the buttons of her jacket while he was at it.

...

True dat

...

Same reason I didn't like Lois for a long long time until she got in on the secret and became more loving to both of Clark.
Still, great show.

What a dick. He just lets them smash the museum's display against his body when he could easily save them.

...

It's villain of the week thrash.
>Here's Brainiac
>Here's Bizarro
>Here's Metallic

It's got some fucking god-tier voice casting.

Michael Ironside as Darkseid is so good I can't hear the character's voice as anything but that.

>MUH NARRATIVE COMPLEXITY
Oh yea I definitely would prefer 5 episodes of Superman sitting in the fortress of solitude doing will they or won't they bullshit with Lois, as Lex goes through several mundane business meetings and is made """"""sympathetic"""""" by some bullshit subplot, so we can have a rushed budget friendly ending.

...

It's almost certainly a replica, with the real thing in an archive somewhere.

It's kinda shitty
Batman TAS is miles better and I'm a Superfag
I'm also a Superman fan

He comes off as a total dick in TAS too though

It's understandable. But my favorite Superman stories are definitely when they de-power him and show how he is still able to be a hero.
youtube.com/watch?v=1P9XB-bol4U

I wonder how viable it would be to do an entire comic run where he is trapped on a planet with a red sun for it's whole duration. Red Sun Superman. I would love to read something like that.

>I definitely would prefer 5 episodes of Superman sitting in the fortress of solitude
I would unironically love this
The Fortress fucking rules

You know damn well what I meant and if you would unironically enjoy it more than StAS then you should just stick to the CW or something man.

Did anyone else find it strange that there was a good amount of episodes where Superman goes up against Lovecraftian horrors? Like, not a shit ton, but frequent enough for it to be noticable?

Space is full of bullshit.

This was easily the best episode of the enire show.

S:TAS was starting to bring in extra characters within DC lore that wasn't bound to an individual's comic run. Batman never went outside Gotham, and only in Batman Beyond (a B:TAS extension) did we get to see the Justice League. S:TAS had the Flash, Dr. Fate, and everything related to Apokalips, which opened the door just enough to make Justice League happen later on.

Also, it's Luthor's museum.

SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED

>Metropolis has the death penalty
>Gotham doesn't

Lex and Joker needed their own show.

>Hurr Durr something that sticks to the source is CW.

>Power rangers where every episode has the hero outpunching the bad guy is the epitome of story telling.

...

...

...

Maybe they're in different states?

>Is the Superman Animated Series worth watching?
It is unironically the best part of DCAU.

BTAS is boggled down by 100 of outright shit episodes drowning 15 good ones.

JL is worse because of atrocious first season.

> How influential was it to the mythos?
STAS is the entire foundation of later JL/JLU.

Everything bad about JL season 1 was because they didn't do what STAS did: semi- linear storytelling, villain characters arcs (fucking metallo goes has an arc!).

Everything good about JLU after they fixed it was because they doulbed down on what STAS did: semi- linear storytelling and villain character arcs.

...

So where's the fanart of Lois dressed like Catwoman?

Here have Lois in a different costume.

>it's a Superman and HP Lovecraft crossover episode

>"I bet Batman will never get married"
>Last Batman issue was another costume swap after Bruce's proposal
Poetic

If you liked Batman the Animated Series you'll like this too.
It was my first introduction to the New Gods.

youtube.com/watch?v=8z4kGzOSgoY

Nevermind the heat vision - she has super strength. She should be able to rip those things apart with a half-hearted bicep flex. Instead they're able to force her arms/legs into place... somehow. Is Supergirl way weaker than Kryptonians in STAS or was she depowered in this scene?

Super-Bat wifeswapping when

honestly just have a key party for the entire Justice League

Well judging by the double date they just had, I'm inclined to believe Lois and Selina are going to start sleeping with each other behind their backs

why are 2 balding schlubby guys trying to rob a place like that? in a city with SUPERMAN protecting it?

Michael Ironside, Corey Burton, and Clancy Brown did such an amazing job as villains for superman

It was really early on in his career.

If I recall correctly that was the episode where Superman first comes in contact with Kryptonite

man, it must be boring to dress as a super in a world of them.

like, also dangerous too
paint a fucking target on your back

Yes, and then Luthor creates an animathronic T-Rex with kryptonite in its mouth.
That was fun.

I remember one issue of Gotham Central the cops found Robin dead, but it just turned out to be someone else dressed as Robin. Turned out the Joker had put a bulk order of Robin costumes but never picked it up and someone else got them. Then murder a teen and put him in the costume.

Which apparently led to the events of Luthor acquiring Superman's blood sample to imperfectly clone him and make Bizarro.
I really like it when certain previous events tie in to later episodes

...

>tfw if the DC movies somehow make it to a Darkseid movie they'll cast him with some popular meme actor instead of someone with a good voice and just pitchshift and modulate his voice to make him sound scary

Brainiac was the best in their you shit taste mongoloid.
