I remember seeing this scene on public TV when I was little. When I watched T&J on CN and noticed it was missing, I assumed they cut it for time. I didn't know people found it offensive at the time.

...

SHANGHAI, HONG KONG, EGG FOO YUNG, FORTUNE COOKIE ALWAYS WRONG!

I thought he was pretty funny.

someone posted this in a thread earlier but it got pruned really quickly

In hindsight this was basically the equivalent of having a black character start saying "Ooga booga I love watermelons massuh"

To be fair, I could probably find a couple jazz songs about soul food,.

Everything about them

I dont undersand you Hamburges, what is wrong with black or asian face?

lol holy shit

Holy shit

and they can't even cut around this because it furthers the plot. dem evil slanty eye people.

...

>Historic comic that made sense in regards to the standards of the period
>Pruned

By that same token

NuLola was better though. Don't fight me

historically speaking black/Asian face was used to mock them. not imitate.
therefore it's seem as an insult even when the intent is not the same

today it's also that "cultural appropriation" crap

There were a lot of hard things about the war. But for Donald Duck? The hardest part of the war...was coming home.

>2005

i agree

but as a man i do miss when every female animated character was spank bank material, pic related

in our country people that were not white have historically faced very violent crimes directed at them due to their race so we are very very very sensitive to it now.

BEST

and then he went and made the goode family, a show that predicted the fucking future also.

...

...

the daughter was completely inoffensive except for the feather

then again I'm cis pale face boner haver

>reading that whole bit in Savage's voice

I love it, Maggle.

You said it.

>Shut up JBL, go bully some children in the shower!

>t. Joey Styles

it's racist to show non whie stereotypes, they don't like their own face. It's also racist to make them like they wish to be (aka hite with tans).
so basically never put non white in your stories and call it a day, there's no pleasing with those people

Here is the solution: You put a Black or Asian or Hispanic or Native American character in a story, then you write them like an actual person instead of a stereotype.

who cares, tokenism as you want it doesn't work either, you can't draw it on screen without people complaining on the appearance immediately.

But goy haven't you heard?
it's not about how offensive it is, but rather how offensive white people THINK it is.

>tokenism as you want it doesn't work either

I didn't say "put a POC character into a story so you'll get brownie points with SJW soibois". But if you are going to put a POC character into a story, they should be an actual character, not a stereotype. Same goes for queer people. (Iceman can fuck every last mile of off.)

What the fuck is wrong with you?

A better time. Before the empire...

Funnily enought, even in todays PC-Culture a German creator could incredibly easily get away with native american portrayals which might be seen as racist even when Natives do it. Because the German image on Americacan natives isn't fueled by the Native tribes themselves but by a projection of German desires onto the native Americans, you therefore might argue that a racist portrayal of native americans done by a German is not an act of discrimination against natives themselves but a way of projecting negative German attributes onto the natives, thus making them act as a mirror for the German society.

I wonder if they should do an episode calling back to this costume.

Nulola is indeed better. I would have toned her down a bit but just a tiny amount.

>Lel, PTSD
I don't see why anyone would think this is funny, racism or no

>Same goes for queer people.

I think for those you don't start by calling them the most offensive thing possible

Where is the line drawn between celebration of cultural differences and the bland cosmopolitan wet dream of everybody being exactly the same?
If they're going to put a mexican in the story, why shouldn't the character like tacos, tequila, mariachi and speak spanish? Not saying this should be the only dimension of the character, but I think cultural differences (and the celebration of such) are very important when introducing a culturally diverse character.

You know in hindsight it wasn't that funny.
But then hellblazer shoot wasn't that good and I am still mad it got censored.

Back then they didn't understand what PTSD really was, the term wasn't widely used until the Vietnam War. In World War II they called it "combat fatigue", and thought that it was just a temporary thing that time would heal, so they made light of it.

Isn't it LGBTQ+ now (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transexual Queer +)? I think they adopted the term, but with a different meaning.

I guess.

Q = questioning

People keep trying to push more "inclusive" acronyms but the only ones that have stuck are LGBT and occasionally LGBTQ

huh. So Queer isn't a thing in the lgbt community?

>Where is the line drawn between celebration of cultural differences and the bland cosmopolitan wet dream of everybody being exactly the same?

You can write a Black character who likes rap without making them a thug. You can write a Latino who is hardworking without making them an undocumented immigrant. You can write an intelligent Asian character without going the "all Chinese kids are good at math" route. The point is to make POC characters not easy-to-grasp stereotypes, but layered characters who may incidentally share a trait or two associated with a given stereotype.

Eh, "queer" is kind of an edge case, because I know some LGBT people are reclaiming "queer" as a catch-all term that better reflects the broad spectrum of sexual and gender identities than the limited LGBT initialization or the much-joked-about additions to it (e.g., "LGBTQ"). I'm bi, but I'll use bi and queer interchangably to describe myself. I also use queer as a catch-all term as described above. Whether someone personally wants to be called "queer" is up to them, and if they don't, I won't use the word around them.

Hamburg is a city in northern germany

Dammmmm....KOTH sometimes can be very good...

Like said it was pretty common at the time, so it was more something that everybody in the war did after coming home than it was to be worried about.
You laughed at grandpa when he'd shout in his sleep about Japs in the bushes and poke fun about it when he was awake. I know my great grandpa did the same thing according to my dad

See also: "shell shock".

you can't please everyone but you can avoid negative stereotypes like,

>the black guy is a slave some how
>the black guy is the driver of a bunch of white people
>the mexican pulls down his sombrero as he takes a siesta
>the mexican speaks broken english and says "madre de dios!"
>the asian has big buck teeth and slanty eyes and cannot pronounce the letter r and somehow finds a way to run into that speak impediment very often
>asian so small pen0r joke
>the Native is a drunk
>the native has a name like chief screaming chicken
>The german is a nazi
>the irish person cannot be understood and is roudy
>the canadian apologizes for everything
>the the jew is not the owner of a media broadcast company

etc. You can honestly do these as a joke but it must not come off as pushing anything as true and if you're white you will probably not be applauded for making such jokes.

I´m not an hamburger, but...What is wrong with stereotipes?, all people love them!, tacos loves Speedy Gonzalez, sushis loves anime, germans loves Hanselsofft...
True question...

That was joked about in King of the Hill as well when the WWII vets had a picnic with the Vietnam vets. After the Vietnam vets had a flashback, Stinky admitted to haven't slept in 20 years

then youd have people complaining theyre not "insert category here"-enough and youre whitewashing them, because some people suck massive bull testicles

It was always very good, giblet head.

Because nowadays you can't laugh at it without being a sexist, racist, mysoginistic cis white fascist. It gets really annoying when you have to check the approved list of jokes before you can laugh.

I think Germany and Sweden know how this feels.

Oh how I love old war time cartoons.

>What is wrong with stereotipes?

They unfairly paint all people of the stereotyped group with a broad brush. Gay male characters, for example, were written as flamboyant "girly-men" for so long that the stereotype still persists in the media to this day. Even positive stereotypes can have negative effects - for example, the long-lasting (and absolute bullshit) stereotype that Black people feel less pain simply because they are Black led to Black Americans being under- or mistreated in hospitals around the country by doctors who bought into the stereotype, consciously or otherwise.

All these people unironically using the pejorative “hamburger” while complaining about racism. The ironing is delicious.

>You know, Peter, with great power comes great responsibility. Rudyard Kipling called it "White Man's Burden." Myself, I just call it as I see it: the responsibility of the master to discipline the servant.
>Ben looks directly at the camera.
>"The niggers, the spics, the chinks...It's our responsibility to civilize them. And if we can't? Then they shall dangle from the elm tree. The Day of the Rope is near, Pete. We'll have every nigger in this country dead or in chains in 10 years, and may God have me shot in a carjacking this very night if I'm wrong. God bless the American Nazi Party."

I still don't know how Raimi pulled it off

>ctrl f

>unfairly
No stereotypes spring up because that occurs enough to be the norm by the time the stereotype is established.

Gays can and do act flamboyant. Pretty much every gay co-worker on the bottom floor acts like Big Gay Al with a buttoned up shirt.

And I grew up in the shitpit of Calfornia, where blacks were arrested daily for shooting up heroin or LSD, then setting each other on fire, and having to be tackled by three cops as they shout "I FEEL NO PAIN! I FEEL NO PAIN!"

>I think Germany and Sweden know how this feels.
Countries aren't memes. They are not the dystropian hell holes that Sup Forums tries to sell you.

The person saying "hamburger" isn't complaining about racism though, in fact they're saying they're not bothered by stereotypes

>sometimes

Show some damn respect

to some its a label, some its a category, others its an insult, it depends entirely on the person and the context. the main thing to remember is that literally everything to do with any of this is totally retarded. so the best you can do is act in good faith, and whoever has a problem with it can lick your asshole clean of hangers

No, but they have felt the sting of political correctness. It's not a pleasant feeling.

not offending people is easy Sup Forums, just dont draw your character with slant eyes and have them say ching chong bing bong, its that easy

If they thought they felt less pain doesn't that mean they should have been over treated with docs thinking it was worse than a white person with that pain would be?

>stereotypes spring up because that occurs enough to be the norm by the time the stereotype is established.

A good number of the stereotypes we associate with Black people, consciously or unconsciously, are predicated on the base fears of White people. For example: Black men are somehow lazy and shiftless, yet are also domineering sexual demigods who will rape all the White women in the world if given even a millisecond's chance to do it.

Stereotypes are almost always the result of the demonization of a group. Gay men were largely written as effeminate for I don't know how long because it was easy to make them seem "evil" if they didn't behave like Manly Men from Manington, Mantana. (And villains in lots of media, including cartoons, were written with effeminate behavior and speech to code them as queer, which made the stereotype worse in its implications.) It is by breaking those stereotypes that a group can be seen as more than a vague image.

Yes, I should have said over where I said under. I'm a bit under the weather today, so forgive me for my fuck-ups.

Nowadays that isn't enough. If you use something from another culture, even paying it upmost respect, you're appropriating culture and are just as bad as mister chingchong

WHOA WHO IS THIS POP CULTURE WUNDERKIND?

>A good number of the stereotypes we associate with Black people, consciously or unconsciously, are predicated on the base fears of White people
No it springs up because it occurred in a large enough group, it's been established that's what said group does. Like Irish and being angry at everything.

>the long-lasting (and absolute bullshit) stereotype that Black people feel less pain

But it's true gingers feel less pain

It's one post by one idiot that was part of a band of idiots

>bostonglobe.com/arts/2015/07/18/counter-protesters-join-kimono-fray-mfa/ZgVWiT3yIZSlQgxCghAOFM/story.html

Don't you mean that you are over the weather?

I do not know whats more racist the fact that they are not actually native americans and just lost boys that left peter or the movie version

>it occurred in a large enough group, it's been established that's what said group does

If I said "White people are colonizing bastards who want to rape and kill - possibly not even in that order - all people of color around the world", would you be upset that I painted all White people as genocidal maniacs because that's what a large enough group of who we would today call White people have done in the past, oh, 500 years or so of human history?

OH GODDAMMIT. I need to watch my phrasing.

History isn't a stereotype.

>we want to be called queer but fuck the word meaning we are normal queers, not queer queer!
This is getting dystopian and sad.

>Same goes for queer people
but most of non porn cartoon stories don't feature sex and romance so you can't have a queer in a show if you don't state it loudly all the time.

English...Do you speak it?

Not all LGBT people want to be called "queer". Like I said, some LGBT people are reclaiming the word, but others still see it as a slur. It's an edge case, and it usually comes down to a person's individual opinion on the matter. There is no broader consensus on this.

Except you can have queer characters who don't explicitly mention their sexuality in every goddamn appearance they make. Just look at Brooklyn 99.

>#whitesupremacykills

>Having World War flashbacks is racist

Yeah, it does.

What the fuck is wrong with people like you?

Read like satire to me tbhq

It's hilarious, fuck you.

unfairly?, I´m travel for 6 months to Hamburgerland, and I saw black gangs on New Orleands, greedy Jews on New York City, people like King on the Hill on Texas, ilegal inmigrants on New Mexico, and many femine gays on San Francisco...everyone was nice and cool to me, so I´m a racist turist or Burgerland is the racist? or even...all cool nice people I meet are racist stereotypes?

calling the japanese "slant eyed nips" is generally seen as offensive, yes

Bomb Pearl Harbour was really racist you know...

You're an asshole, and your mom should have aborted you after having sex with that dog. Fuck you.

Everybody during the war had nicknames though

Frenchies were frogs and Germans were Kraut’s

That's no way to speak to a combat veteran.
