ITT: Terrible legacy characters

ITT: Terrible legacy characters

Hard mode: no bendis

Bendis actually makes some pretty legacy characters though.

Wasp is shit. The o5 suck too.

You should have asked good legacy characters.

The only good legacy characters are Barry, Hal, Ray and Barbara. Everyone else sucks.

Most of those were basically reimaginings and not legacy characters at all.

Exactly.
This why most legacy characters fail.

Barbara Gordon will always be THE Batgirl.
I don’t see why people want to change that.

Go to bed, Johns.

They think that being Batgirl would make their favorite character popular.

Donna troy
Jason todd
Skaar
Batwoman sidekick
harper row
kyle Rayner
That weird supergirl clone thing
All of the hawkmen.
forgotten xmen
earth 2

That’s pathetic.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

If I can add to this:
Ryan Choi
Wally West
Cassandra Cain
Stephanie Brown
Dick Grayson
Tim Drake
Damian Wayne
Kamala Khan
Robbie Reyes
Miles Morales
Sam Alexander
Sam Wilson
Bucky
Flash Thompson

Except Barbara evolved into a better character, Oracle and grew beyond batgirl.

Because she's garbage.

Cass was superior in virtually every way though, and Babs will always be better as Oracle than Batgirl.

>Oracle
>better character
Right, because being a cripple is so badass.

>grew beyond batgirl
But Batgirl didn't outgrew babs abd that's why she's the iconic Batgirl.

It's not that oracle was so much a better character but writers actually putting effort into writing her character.

>badass
Capeshit audience, everyone!

How is being an emo Mary Sue better than being a relatable down to earth character?

Starting the thread off irrevocably wrong

He's right tho, Steph should've stayed as Spoiler instead of taking hand me down identities

Legacy characters?

Yeah.
Miles is a pretty great Spider-Man.

Yeah, legacy characters. They're like the same old character but new. Bendis likes to use them for his comics.

Because Babs worked better as Oracle
Oh go fuck yourself. She was more of a hero behind the computer screen than she ever was in bat tights.
The only reason shes iconic as Batgirl is because casuals only know about 1 Batgirl

So much samefagging, it hurts.

That Batgirl run was fantastic

>worked better as oracle
How?

>The only reason shes iconic as Batgirl is because casuals only know about 1 Batgirl
It's more than that, Babs truly is a memorable character as Batgirl with her red hair and connection to Gordon.

I agree, putting her in a wheelchair forced people to write her as a person, not just a generic badass girl who flings batarangs and jumps off buildings because "gurlpowa!" Combine that with the fact that Cassandra Cain was all that badass and more and better than what Barbara ever could have been, and yet she didn't resent her or feel jealous, .... it was a great storytelling platform.

Admittedly for the longest time, Babs was kind of stagnant as Batgirl. Then for cheap shock value and as a way to bench her she was shot in Killing Joke, because writers didn't know what to do with her anymore. But what became of her afterwards was her learning not to feel sorry for herself, and found a way to help Gotham without putting on a mask and kicking a thug in the nuts like everyone else did. Writers like to talk about making a "strong female character" for current readers when they already had one. There aren't that many disabled characters in comics, and Babs remaining in that chair actually displayed some consequence for the Bat family. These days Barbra is poory written, and frozen as a 20 something crime fighter

Batgirl is iconic because Based Didio says so and he's right.
>Oracle ages Batman and other characters.
>Killing Joke was fading from continuity
>the idea of Hackers was changing.

The problem was them fixing Barbara.

Oracle was not perfect and was actually quickly spiraling into being shit.

You don't actually know shit, do you? Moore wrote that as out of continuity in what was basically just a random Batman annual, he wasn't planning on benching her.

And yeah, Daredevil, Cyborg, Professor X, none of these characters exist or predate Oracle.

Why is Didio so based?
It makes me sad they didn’t kill off Dick.

The only one out of those 3 with validity is Charles. Cyborg? Can hardly call him disabled, especially these days. Matt is iffy considering how much more he "sees". A handle of characters who are disabled counted on one hand

> didio
> based
> wanted to kill dick
> wants to shill babs as batgirl as some forever frozen in time college student
babsfags are the biggest cancer

It'd be easier to list legacy characters that don't suck.

Barry Allen
Hal Jordan
Ray Palmer
Barbara Gordon

Barbara is the fucking blandest Batgirl dude.

So you’d rather go with the emo Mary Sue (Cass)? Or the spastic autist (Steph)?

>So you’d rather go with the emo Mary Sue (Cass)?

Yes.

She's mute, not emo. And if someone without superpowers can be a mary sue in a whole universe full of supers, then I don't know what a mary sue is, or at least you don't.
Steph is alright, not great, but alright.

No, Steph is the blandest.

Heh

> Killing Joke fading away.

You almost had me.

No she's iconic because she was in the 60s show. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Batman having a 13 year old son ages him worse than Babs being in a wheelchair. What's his excuse now?

>Cass Cain
>emo

All she does is smile.

So I just found out there's a porn star with the name Cassandra Cain...

Babs becoming Batgirl away not only destroys decades of story but worse, it degraded her maturity.
She went from a thirty something, who had gone through some of the worst life can throw at a person and came back stronger to a just out of college "teehee let's take a selfie I'm so vapid"
Fuck off with that.
Steph was a better Batgirl than the shit we have now.

You haven't actually read any of it, have you? You've also somehow forgotten that Babs as Batgirl first came back with Simone's heavier run.

Can we blame Simone for this?

Simone didn't seem very happy with the idea in the first place, but felt that it was her duty to salvage it (nothing could salvage it). Her Babs was much more mature and that run was pretty dark overall. It was only when Simone was fired that Babs get herself de-aged significantly.

QUESTION:
Why do Wonder Woman legacy characters never stick? They keep trying them and they never have any staying power whatsoever. I think people just like Diana too much, not that that's a bad thing.

>Steph was a better Batgirl than the shit we have now.
She was just as vapid as Nu Babs.

Just put "The batfamily" - the gay ones and oracle I guess.

Donna was okay, but then CoIE happened and she could no longer be directly connected to Diana because Diana was getting a new origin/new story.
Perez added the Kapatelis family and they stuck around for a little bit, then Byrne wanted his own OC's and created Cassie.
I think they don't really stick because everyone wants their own OC's to have the spotlight, and WW doesn't usually have more than one book. You can compare it to the Batbooks and Superbooks, wherein the sidekicks and legacy characters have their own solo series, but the WW characters usually only appear in her own book and TeenTitans/YoungJustice books
