>sister and I come home for winter break
>mom insists on watching holiday movies together, The Year Without a Santa Claus, Frosty, etc.
>they're both on their phones half the time

When did this become OK?

Let's either watch these movies together, or stare at our phones in our own distant silos. One or the other, not both.

i hate that shit

lol just walk out the next time that happens. just call them out on it if they start to bitch.

Ugh, I hate that. Or if someone falls asleep halfway through the movie.

Sucks.

It's about being together, stupid.

My dad always falls asleep halfway through every movie, then says it was shit.

>me and my dad(who likes superhero and cartoon stuff) watch a movie i recommended
>"I am going to take a smoke outside"
>"Okay, i will stop the movie"
>"You don't have to"

These hit too close to home.

I get it when somebody doesn't give a shit, but at least be polite about it and say something instead of just silently shifting to a new distraction.

I still pause it anyway when that happens

i do too, but this shows how much they actually care about the movie, i.e. not at all. Might as well just stop watching then

>that one great scene
>people talk over it or go to the toilet

That's why you don't bother socializing with normies of the outside world who don't share your niche interests until you realize you have no friends period and spend all your time on the internet in places that cater to you and your niche interests

Worst part is people know they can't multitask and they do it anyway.

I do socialise by going out and doing things with "normies" but I will never watch movies with them specifically for the reasons everyone has stated in this thread, they just stay on their phones or dont pay attention and its fucking annoying

>my parents don’t look at their phones during family time
>they watch the movie I chose in full
>they absolutely hate it
>they wont listen to my film suggestions for at least 4 months
Oops

>watch the horsie episode about the NEET son so they can relate
At least that turned out alright

Happens with my brother all the time and it annoys the fuck out of me. My parents do tend to pay attention, but unfortunately they are not into the same media I am.

I would never show that episode to my parents. Not that I'd watch with them anyway, but if I did never that one.

>dad watches documentaries that show mangled dead bodies, footage of real violence/gore
>put on movie that has gorey scenes
>he complains its too violent

>Mom insists on watching movies together
>Talks with my dad half the time
>Falls asleep half-way through the movie

Too close, i found myself

Maybe she just wants to spend time with you but is afraid she won't connect with you as well as she used to, and thus she chooses a generally accepted activity where you don't need to talk to have fun with someone.

This

When it's with friends I just ask if they're on the prowl for some hot chicky babes on tinder, it generally works in getting them to put their phone away.

That's just someone apologizing for leaving in a tactless way. They don't get that you care about them seeing it.

>complain about the nudity in GITS
>proceed to watch GoT.

>family forces me to watch the big football game
>spend whole game on phone
Fuck em.

I don't really watch sports, but I do like watching people get tackled.
>you'll grow into it, kid.

>your favorite movie is Sup Forums-related
>yet you wonder why your family doesn't give a shit

Also, watching movies with other people in [the current year] is awful. Watch TV shows instead.

movies as background noise (especially during family gatherings) was a thing before smartphones

>i watch the super bowl for the great commercials!
Is there anyone more braindead than these people?

About a hundred years ago people were complaining that family gatherings were disturbed by everyone reading a magazine instead of talking to each other. It's annoying but it's nothing new under the sun.

That or you get friends who aren't assholes (and make sure they actually want to watch the movie).
Consuming media is barely a social activity in the first place.

That works with single friends. When your friend has his wife busting his balls he's just lost for the foreseeable future and you have to make your peace with it.

I don't mind if someone falls asleep. Sleep is important, looking at facebook is not

I don't even get how people manage to find so much to do on their phones. I use it when I'm out and waiting for something, and even then I can't always find something worth doing (so I come to Sup Forums). I'd never do that when there's better entertainment (ie. a movie and people) available.

Eh....i hate a some over the top glorified violence. Like that recent bear rape scene. I just walked away. Documentaries you are seeing nature as it is though.

>recent bear rape scene.
Wut?

>animated nudity is worse than real nudity
Really rolls my coconuts

Elaborate.

The Revenant

I don't recall Leo butt fucking the bear in that movie.

>mom and sister pretty much refuse to watch any film
>Dad always down to watch a movie, no matter how dumb it is and he'll occasionally bring his own dvds to watch
Thanks Dad.

Yeah, people who watch footbll any other time

Other way around

Movies are fucking boring nigga

>me, my parents and younger brother comes home after celebrating Christmas together at grandparents house
>we bunker up in front of the TV with some soda and watch a 5 hour long Bergman
>everybody is completely captivated for the entire film and doesn't even glance at their phone

I sure love being white.

>spending Christmas sitting silently in front of a TV
Does your family hate each other?

It was 2 days after. We had spent 5 hours in a car and were all a bit tired.
