The main problem of animation schools is that they don't teach caricature.

Caricature is the very soul of cartoon.

is it cuz its racist?

Caricature is only as good as an artists anatomy knowledge. Having life drawing taught every semester is more important.

Anybody else think the thumbnail looked like the kid was handling a giant cock coming out of a portal?

Shut off your computer, breath a while, go for a walk and come back in one hour.

Squint your eyes and you'll see it too.

Not gonna lie, I saw the same thing

I thought that too. It's why I came to this thread.

I thought this was a picture of something else.

From the thumbnail I thought the little boy is blowing someone through a curtain.

The absolute state of Sup Forums

Reminds me of that pic of Catwoman that looks like she has a drooling cock in the thumbnail.

they're not wrong
seeing the thumbnail in the catalog does look lewd

I thought the boy was sucking on some dick with that hentai milf vacuum mouth from the thumbnail.

Off yourself gay pedo

...Yeah

In catalog, hand looks like a dick with cum coming out of it

LOL, I thought it was a kid getting a big facial from thumbnail

Yeah we fucking get it already. Time to move on.

BIG
MEATY
COCKS

I actually thought the kid was being choked.

Before this thread gets derailed, I'd like to say my piece:

The real problem with contemporary cartoonists and the community of animation as a whole, is that it lacks the ability (or more likely, the desire) to communicate through ambiguity. Everything is either postmodern face value design meant to seem instructional for more often than not political purposes, or is so far gone into the world of pointless extremism that it loses communicational value. I want to emphasize POINTLESS, because its not like extreme art can't be used well, the mania expressed in ren and stimpy served a juxtapositional comedic purpose.

I think that's the bigger issue, animators and cartoonists aren't taught to exaggerate for a point, they're just taught exaggeration is intrinsically good. So it follows that the stories they write, given storyboarding has a more important role in contemporary animation than animators themselves these days, is more obvious, more on the nose, more stately.

This goes against the very nature of visual storytelling. A picture says a million words, and the problem is contemporary artists aren't shown how to make pictures for any myriad of words, but only the same, safe words for a safe audience and a safe income. Look at the greatest films of all time, ignoring animation, and you'll quickly notice that ambiguity is a major reason why they're so everlasting. The japs even got the message ages ago.

Nice projection.

Sup Forums can't stop thinking about little boys sucking dick.

From the looks of it, the dick is cumming so hard that the boy's cheeks are rippling from the rush of semen.

Yup

>Everything is either postmodern face value design
Can you show an example of what that looks like?

You can't really teach caricature
Not in the way you're expecting, anyway. Caricature is dependant on the individuals knowledge of real life anatomy. Its like says.
Art school may help you learn how to draw, but it's the "why" that's more important. Its something only you yourself can define. If you're honest about why you draw, it'll show in your work amd people will appreciate it more.
Is art school necessary for this? Not at all.

It looked more like a foot to me.

footfag detected

Is it actually intentional?

Bauhaus user?

>they're still going
Holy fucking shit.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that

I'm gonna be honest here, at first glance, I thought that kid was sucking a dick through a magic mirror.

Oh wow, I actually thought the boy was grasping a giant penis in the thumbnail.

That's a penis right?

maybe if the artist didn't draw the kid with such a kung fu grip at around his mouth with his head slightly tilted back?

The issue with a lot of art schools in general is they don't reach techniques the greats used, like camera obscura, so you can actually trace from life and make better more accurate to life art, art school in all forms is dumbed down.

Man I thought this was a magical blowjob picture. I'm so disappointed.

The real issue is that the artist in OP's pic clearly wanted to draw child porn

...

>The main problem of animation schools is that they don't teach caricature.
yes they do
>Caricature is the very soul of cartoon.
no it isn't

May as well post this

lmao

I thought tracing was BAD...

Depends. Tracing is great for practice and getting the details just right. Art has a lot of different techniques you can learn to help yourself grow as an artist, a lot of the great artists used tracing via camera obscura.

i just woke up and thought he was sucking a cock through that portal

It's probably best for most artists to start with grids rather than Camera Obscura, then gradually move away from the grid and rely more and more on measurement and construction.

Most contemporary artist nowadays seem to want to primarily rely on imagination for their work. Over-reliance on such tools can hamper your ability to do just that.

I'm not sure if it counts as tracing, but the early days of animation at disney required hiring actresses to dance and sing and move around so the artists could accurate draw the details like the way fabric moves and folds by tracing/rotoscoping it. I know rotoscoping is looked down upon because it looks so fucking weird when most people try it, but its genuinely a good way to learn and to apply those techniques into your work. A lot of these artist need to understand that in order to make a proper charactcature, you need to learn how to draw more realistic life based art so you can understand anatomy and muscle structure.

I agree, most of those artist aren't anywhere near ready for these more advanced techniques, but the fact they never oven come close to learning anything of that caliber is why their art and animation is so fucking shitty. aka a bunch of talentless and unskilled hacks

I wonder if it was intentional.

Don't worry, I saw it too. Maybe we're both fags.

Where do you think we are

This HAD to have been intentional. The shading on that cat clearly resembles a dong.

I'm curious now
How did famous artists get started? surely they didn't have perfectly grided paper back in those days?

Rulers did exist, and compasses, and graphite and ink and all sorts of artistic tools.

so meta

I thought it was like a glory hole just pounding his mouth

tracing mostly with pic related and anons example here
Da vinci changed up the game up a little when he was inspired by vitruvious(i think he translated it himself or found a translation, don't remember but vitruvius was a huge factor in his greatness and the Renaissance was basically the mass translation of ancient artist's scripture/guides into italian) by cutting up bodys and learning anatomy so intimately(probably traced muscles) no doubt he was using and even combining different techniques including drawing from imagination.

What the actual fuck is happening here

Same here.

Ask your 8th grade teacher, user

I thought a shota apprentice was sucking the cock of a wizard in his robe, stood at a doorway with light behind him.

camera obscura, something something light is crazy yo. you can experiment yourself right now with a jewl cd case and a flashlight.

draw me goy.

I should also add that while the Camera Obscura has been pretty much phased out with the invention of the camera and the projector, the grid still persists to this day, in different forms. It was used by Van Gogh in one form, Recommended by Loomis, used by Leyendecker to boot, and still used in modern art education, when they bother to actually teach life drawing. And most likely all digital artists use a grid in one form or another.

Methods such as these have surely been used by most, if not all, great artists ever since the renaissance period, but I'm just going from the top of my head here.

say anything you want but John K's blog is very useful for cartooning knowledge
It will break you and remold you on the right way

>it will break and remold you

I can live without the inane ramblings of a creep with an ego the size of Jupiter.

and you will be a shitty cartoonist

why do you think I clicked on this thread?

Thought this was shotacon for a second.

The quintessential

no faggit, dick lovers are new to Sup Forums. Even now with the past couple years faggits are more prominante in Sup Forums.

>cant do any better himself

next you're gonna tell me you often preach to 3 star chefs about how to cook better based on your experience with instant ramen

>designs made for the purpose of churning out updates several times a day

t. newfag

me too unfortunately

> hurr durr unironically using the t,newfag meme
so did you come here are the election or during it?

It's the same problem that Miyazaki said
Now animators are less human, they don't look at people anymore

>he actually believes this

>i'm not new, i've been here for an entire year

>t.newfag

>so did you come here are the election
Fuck off pajeet.

>>i'm not new, i've been here for an entire year

yeah and

>no faggit, dick lovers are new to Sup Forums
I supposed the gay threads we've been having for over a decade never happened?

It's fine for them to be simple because they were designed for a specific purpose. There's no way the comic would've worked if the designs were too complicated.

opened the thread to post this, good year everyone i'm out

I actually saw a blowjob.

list em

It has to be intentional, just look at the shape of that arm one either side of the kids hand.

YES

I didn't see that but can see why you would. It's a weird and unsettling picture regardless.

>list the threads that aren't even archived because that's a relatively new thing
Please stop shitposting, faggot.

can you or can you not list em

Nah I saw it too. Now that I see the actual picture I think it's cute and a little sad.

that's why I clicked on this thread
