All this year I've been storytiming Punisher comics on Sup Forums. Most of them have been from the pre-Ennis era, but there have also been a few from the Ennis era. I usually posted at least 1 storytime per week, but there were a few weeks that I missed due to various circumstances, though this month I've been storytiming every day.
The last couple week or so I've posted an absolute ton of storytimes, all of which you can read in these threads: The last 2 are set EARLY in The Punisher's continuity, all the way back in the 70s. There are really not very many Punisher stories set during the 70s. Aside from his 1st few appearances and The Tyger from MAX, we haven't really been given many stories set during the early years of The Punisher being The Punisher.
Well today is my last storytime of the year, and what better place to end it... than at the beginning.
In 1994 Marvel released "The Punisher Year One", which was about just that: The very 1st year after that day in the park that lead to The Punisher becoming The Punisher, and everything that happened along the way.
It's written by the long-time writing team of Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning. It's penciled by Dave Eaglesham and inked/embellished by Scott Koblish. It also features some of the best fucking covers I have ever seen, each of them painted by Vince Evans and designed/sketched by Dave Eaglesham.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the only time The Punisher's origin story has ever really been fully told. For a character whose origin has been referenced and reiterated and PARTIALLY told about a zillion times (possibly more than any other character's?) it's a surprise that it took Marvel this long to get around to an actual full-blown origin comic.
Thanks op. It also took Marvel sometime to give The Punisher his name. Better than the Netflix show as far as I'm concerned.

I guess they thought Marvel Super Action was good enough, until someone pitched "what if we do something BETWEEN that and Frank's family's death"?

Reminder that this guy turned out to be a fallen archangel who manipulated everything to turn Frank into the Punisher.
