Ripping off Utena does not make a fight scene good by default.

Now show us a fight from the last 20 episodes that was decent

Sorry to burst your bubble but tracing something regardless of quality doesn't make it your own.

how do you know that anime didn't rip off steven universe?

The anime was released in the 90's.

OH GOD ARE WE IN BACKWARDS TIME UNIVERSE AGAIN?! QUICK, WARN FAMILY GUY BEFORE THE B-52S RIP THE SHOW OFF AGAIN!

>not know the majesty of utena.
You should just go.

> traced
> no weight
> no impact
> no traction
> no emotional narrative
> barely any fighting narrative

i might as well be looking at two dudes fighting with their dicks for fun

>i might as well be looking at two dudes fighting with their dicks for fun

There is probably a thread for that over in /gif/.

I'm really sick of these Sup Forums-tier shitposts and false flags. Why don't mods do their damn jobs?

DBZ fights have more weight than this, I mean those swords look like wet noodles and clash like they're barely touching.

Looks like fucking shit.

Oh, hello Freehaven. Haven't seen you around Sup Forums in years. Why the hell did you come back? I know you're a fag, but frankly you can do much better than this board. Or website for that matter.

Holy shit, OP. You're one of the few people on this board, if not this website, to propose a claim and actually prove it with infallible evidence. Great job.

Looks like they're fighting with pool noodles.

This is now a sakuga thread.
Post'em!

>DBZ fights have more weight than this

A fight between two flimsy lesbian golems has less weight than 2+ brutes duking it out and shooting barrages of energy blasts at each other?

NIGGA YOU CURRAAAAAZY

this was literally stole from utena

Sugar can't keep getting away with this guys!

...

I've seen better fights in RWBY,Is there anything original about this show?

The last & epic fight in my book is a tribute from Solid Snake vs. Liquid Ocelot in MGS4
C'mon lads.

How does it feel knowing most of the SU audience had no idea about this 20 year old reference.

do you know what tracing means

Why does Sup Forums fellate users so damn hard

>outsource to Kim No Soul who doesn't give a fuck about lesbian gaijin show
>animation looks limb and mediocre

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT?!

...

I just remember him from 2006. Felt like a blast from the past.

Most people haven't read Captain Harlock or anything from Go Nagai. This feeling isn't new to me.

Most shows outsource to korea, dunkass.

Steven Universe has decent animation
But that isn't related to my problems with the show

Utena has cool duel scenes, SU just ripped them off.

>Steven Universe has decent animation
>He says as he posts one scene from one episode, animated by one guest animator from Japan

NANDATO?

Steven Universe at least plays out a few choice shots and poses as a homage. In the meantime Symbionic Titan got praise on this same board for straightup ripping Sword of The Stranger shot for shot.

One from Trigger no less.

actually it was animated by koreans

What gets me is when faggots try to hide behind "paying homage" bullshit when the show does this.

When you're creating great shots and one of them happen to be taken from another source, that's an homage.
When almost every single memorable scene from your work is taken from somewhere, that's just pathetic ripping off.

..So?
That was still animation in-show, I just picked the first SU webm I found in folder.

And Utena ripped off the Rose of Versailles.

I never noticed how weightless this looks. Anyways, there's one or two more fights after this one, most of it is boring SOL bullshit

>Pre-frozen Faye

Too fucking pure for my cold heart.

When korea gets destroyed in nuclear fire, what's going to happen to the animation industry?

>>> ITT faggots dont know the difference between rip-off and homage

> That was still animation in-show

Sure, it just can't be attributed to anyone who actually works on SU normally, instead it's from a japanese animator who only did a few scenes in that one episode.

Homage would be something like the "Congratulations" gag SU did once. Copying entire camera angles and movements is not an homage.

That's like when Family Guy stole the entire "Calm Down" joke from Airplane and Seth called it a "parody" despite just straight up copying the entire scene and joke with no alterations apart using his own characters.

It's a rip off if I don't like it, like Steven Universe.
It's a homage if I like it, like Star VS.
It's original if I am an uncultured swine, like The Lion King.

...

...

...

Are these scenes from the show or fan made animations?

Have a reference, motherfucker

...

Fan made, do you really think the SU team are that skillful?

The only good thing about SU is the concept, characters, and color direction. Too bad everything else is ruined by sucrose.

this
one of mike pence's time traveling clones is responsible

...

Damn that animation is so boring. Things move with such perfect, even timing and spacing, the model never breaks, not even for little squashes, and 90% of its achievement is having turns that stays consistent.

Sweater kid also looks more like a mix of the picture and Dexter from Dexter's Lab.

Would you look at all these homages and references!

oh okay. i dont watch SU so i dont know what the animations like. was considering to go watch it if it was animated like the gifs but not anymore

Those are references though.
If they start taking entire scenes by scenes with no alterations as a means to parody it or make it its own, then it's just plain stealing.
This gif is a better representation of the actual show.
Granted, this one is played a bit for laughs but I assure you quarter of the time it really is just like this and not for jokes.

>references
So a show that runs on basically just referencing other materials gets a pass?

>So a show that runs on basically just referencing other materials gets a pass?
First of all Ben 10 doesn't solely "run" on references. those are literally just little character designs many of which are either background, side characters or one time.

Second of all, yes a show CAN in fact be specifically about references, so long as enough changes are made to it that it's clearly your own personal work. This is what we call "satire" and "parody".

SU isn't satirizing anything, nor is it really making an homage since it's to similar without making any real alterations. It's just plain copying, at least with that specific fight scene.

Literally one fight that is only okay and the rest are worse than this

What's this from?

>one fight from OkKO is better than the entire catalog of SU
What Sugar mean by this?

>this was the last good fight scene in Steven Universe
>it aired almost four years ago

I've always wondered why people think getting vertigo from an animation is considered enjoyable.

is an impressive animation, but is overall just too busy for me personally. Strangely, a LOT of anime scenes that people link to show good animation has this. Matter of taste I guess.

I enjoy much more. It's more subdued, but still has a dynamic camera angle.

I guess my issue is that I'd rather watch the entire choreography as I would in real life rather than constantly watch the camera zoom in on a subject, meanwhile I can't see what the other subject(s) are doing. Am I supposed to believe the other subject is waiting in position for the camera to pan over to them so they can make their move?

I also think people exaggerate the need for heavy weight in scenes. No weight is boring, but too many effects and the whole thing is just overly detailed. Less is more sometimes.

Of course SU has none of these issues because the fight scenes are bland, but I also don't think pushing it to the other extreme would be much better, personally.

Meant is better.

So it's homage, then.

References doesn't make it bad, it just doesn't make it good. It's neutral.

Copying fight scene choreography is a negative.

It wasn't. That episode was guest animated from a dude at trigger, a japanese anime studio.

That...fits perfectly with the scene and character in this instance- it's style fitting to the content. Please shut the fuck up.

t. scenes

>90% of its achievement is having turns that stays consistent.
To be fair that's a pretty big achievement for a show that's known to not be able to maintain model consistency between scenes let alone episodes.

SU's animation is passable most of the time and sometimes it ends up having sparkling moments while other times it ends up having abortions. In that regard this whole thread is kind of pointless.

I can't wait to see this sho-
How embarrassing

>Little squashes
user, it's a slippery slope with SU and I'd like to see things going back on-model in the coming seasons.

Ben 10 Omniverse.

I thought the SU audience was damaged high school and college girls on tumblr. Of course they know about the references, someone will post about it to show how nerdy they are.

>posts the utena rip off scene
I know this is bait but damn dude.

>Good animation
>Absolutely zero fucking weight
Pick one

I have to somewhat agree. I don't have a problem with the camera moving during a fight scene but when it turns into a fucking nauseous fest then it's shit, I don't care how good it looks.

Everything in SU doesn't move fast enough when it comes to fights. Camera doesn't move alot, it's always in still shots. No dynamic shots. Nobody feels the weight of an impact. Everyone needs to look up tutorials or look at good choreographed fighting scenes.

The gif wasn't that bad compared to some animes that just go haywire with the smearings and shit flying all over the place. It's doesn't come off as impressive when you pause the video and it's nothing but an abstract painting.

*COUGH*FINALONEPUNCHMANSAITAMAFIGHTAGAINSTBOROS*COUGH*

I really liked the fight scene in On the Run. The animation was decent, albeit slightly stiff. But they aren't human and come off as quite a bit more rigid and robust, depending on the character, so I can deal with a bit of puppetry.

Anyway, Pearl and Amethysts fighting styles during that scene was probably the best the show has ever gotten. Amethyst is clearly an amateur at technique, compared to Pearl, who doesn't have to try at all. Some might think this is lazy animation, but I think it's quite brilliant to contrast their fighting effort. Not to mention they're not fighting enemies, they are fighting family. So while Amethyst is failing to deliver any solid blows, Pearl is the one to keep the fight as soft as possible to show Amethyst she isn't as impactful as she thinks she is. I wish more people gave credit to this scene, but it's probably too short, too soft (even though that's the point), and too emotional to appeal to those who enjoy a good hearty action scene.

In comparison, The Jasper vs Stevonnie fight was pretty awful and the Beta fight as well (though I liked Smokey's introduction so that saves it for me). I think it didn't help that Jasper's expertise and raw power got pushed aside for the sake of plot. The justification is that she is a fish out of water after she let Lapis use her and everything fails to go her way, but we don't have enough episodes with her in it for it to matter or make sense.

I'm still waiting for your example.

It could be so much worse

why do the "best swordsmen" always aim for the other guys sword?

Connie is going to be an AWESOME SWORDFIGHTER

JUST YOU WAIT!

Anyone have a gif of Symbionic Titan Lance swordfighting that one general?

Now that was actually well done

your gif is the opposite problem though, too much squishing and movement. It works for comedy stuff like old mickey mouse cartoons or animaniacs, but not a semi-serious story like steven universe

Steven Universe's problem is that Steven is one of the worst characters in the show. Some of the townies beat him out for that honor, though.

N...NANI?

why do you guys spend time comparing separate scenes when the entire premise of the show was lifted from Houseki no Kuni?

you guys are watching sissified version of anime made by a woman who drew child porn of ed edd n eddy

is this supposed to be impressive

Why is this better than the entire american cartoon industry?
Why?
