Should The Simpsons be rebooted and given a new direction in order to revitalize the brand and make it actually watchable again?

No, the disney brass should tell the simpsons producers they have a single season to wrap up the show and tell a satisfying conclusion.

That's never going to happen and you know it

No. Kill it. It was allowed to run for so long every character was ruined.

Basically this.

Hence why a reboot could help.

Maybe you faggots could lose some weight and make non-2D friends.

I only ever watched loose episodes. Which season should I start with and when do I drop the Simpsons Sup Forums?

is funnier, and you might learn something

A series running this long would only destroy its own reputation with a reboot. The Simpsons could end in one more season and a film and then still survive off of its own popularity, branding, reruns, etc for another 20 years before fading into memory as "one of the greatest shows of all time" purely based on its run length. The Simpsons can't reboot because the nuclear family doesn't represent American culture very well anymore.

You could maybe sell a sequel series about the kids being older, but only if Lisa was the main character. Insufferable as she is, Bart would never be able to hold a protagonist slot well for very long without changing his character a great deal.

both lisa and bart are insufferable tho. maybe maggie

I didn't think about that but yeah, Maggie's young enough that she could be considered a hard reset.

Pitch: Maggie Simpson has left Springfield after attending college to "see the world." She goes on humorous adventures in different parts of the world Carmen Sandiego style, and the narrative is told in the form of Springfielders receiving postcards.

Homer reads a postcard to the guys at the bar and worries about X problem that parents commonly have. You get your dose of Springfielders while not being locked to their current personas since its a timeskip, and don't get them in huge doses anymore since most have become dated or simply run into the ground.

It's shit but I'd watch something like it at least once. Shit like everyone at Moe's has aged noticeably except Moe, who inexplicably looks exactly the same.I dunno, I'm not a writer for a reason.

that's actually a good idea user, I'd watch it

What about what Maggie is in college, and becomes a total swj thot. Needs money to feed her new coke habit, but doesn't have the money for it. Thats okay though became Jamal also accepts young white ass. She gets strung out and keeps begging Jamal for more, but if he keeps giving her free coke. The raysists will come reposes his 24 inch rims. Jamal love his rims. So, he kidnaps Maggie, drives her into the woods, rapes her one more time, beats her nearly to death, then lights her on fire. Then the Simpsons and become the NigNogs, and you faggots can watch Jamal sell drugs, shoot people, and burn his community to the ground.

Why not? It’s not like it does crazy ratings or anything like that. I feel like it’s entirely possible that Disney decides that continuing to put out mediocre episodes only damages the brand.

I mean they’d definitely want to reboot it within 5 years, but I’ll take any change at this point

Rebooting a series doesn't fix or even try to address the problem the show has now: it doesn't have a good show runner and the writers aren't remotely as witty as the ones who made the show memorable in the first place.

Take Spider-man, he's been rebooted twice in movies and it STILL hasn't made a single really great movie.

Reboots are just a lazy attempt to make audiences more forgiving when they retread old grown.

It's the exact same shit so it likely wouldn't. Name 3 things a reboot would fix

>Sup Forums
>funny

Pol is funny in a sad way, and you don't want to learn anything

If it were still the early 2000s I'd say to age them up but now? Just fucking end it for the love of god, there are no other options.

Let it die.
Consider it a mercy.

Just pull the plug already

sure, why not
The show's gotten to a point where it's been so homogenized that a change in direction is probably the only way they can save it.
The concept of this show is so simple that just changing the showrunner could make a huge difference.

were reboots ever good? just kill it

it will if someone dies

The only way they could be trendy again is to laugh at the current state of culture (no Sup Forums), which they will never do.

I'd rather they just end it for good but that's not going to happen until it beats Sazae-san for longest running animated show.

What if they just stopped making it and we stopped hanging onto old things with tooth and nail? Why reboot the old when you can make something new?

OP are you implying Hollywood is capable of rebooting things well?

> marge made into a proud woman of color due to her curly hair. speaks in thick ebonics despite living in white suburb.
> lisa is now a former boy, trans child, whom in addition to being a socialist scientologist vegan lectures the family about pronouns and problematic social snafus
> bart is removed and replaced with slightly older maggie
> maggie is bullied for being fat and mulatto, uses sass and smarts to fight back at bullies. also has a rocket ship.
> whenever maggie is offscreen, other characters ask "where's maggie?"
> pacifier now a necklace that turns her into a superhero that fights the patriarchy.
> homer turned into what hollywood thinks conservatives are. slack jawed redneck who drools over every woman within his radius
> trademark "d'oh" removed for sounding too similar to drumpf and thus problematic
> grandpa simpson now actually gay. but not normal person gay. loud obnoxious flamboyantly gay. also has a rocket ship.
> flanders is now as racist as possible and spends every episode trying to burn lisa at the stake for being an atheist
> moe is removed because laughing at ugly people is problematic
> moe's bar is now owned by marge. only serves gluten-free tea.
> kent brockman now a parody of fox news. only speaks in yelps and belches
> apu is now mayor of town and everything he does it looked upon as holy acts of god.
> apu is now voiced by a different indian actor in every episode
> apu always saves homer when he gets into trouble. national anthem plays when this happens.
> every other citizen in springfield is now a trending musician or celebrity
> show is now ugly 3d cgi
> new theme song by the Lumineers
> directed by seth macfarlane

Can you really "conclude" it when it's Groundhog Day: The Animation? It's been running since the late 80s and the characters haven't aged a day.

But is Apu the CEO of Kwik E Mart and rival to Mr.Burns?

Mr. Burns is now just a republican racist nazi oh wait that's already the case

The simpsons Go!

Fund it.

Disney should rehire the old composer.

A reboot would do absolutely nothing to a show that always resets after each episode ends! The golden years of the simpsons was only good because lightning in a bottle and so many funny people were working on it at the same time. Brad Bird, Conan O'Brian, etc. Even if you could round all of them up again, I doubt it will be as good as golden years Simpsons.

>Take Spider-man, he's been rebooted twice in movies and it STILL hasn't made a single really great movie
Organic web aside they got it right on the first fucking try.

>apu is now mayor of town
Fuck you that would be a great episode.

>The concept of this show is so simple that just changing the showrunner could make a huge difference.
What say? Why can't anyone get rid of Al Jean?

And that's how you end it the last episode ends with Homer and Marge driving to the Christmas pageant from the first episode.

From an exec standpoint probably.
From a fan standpoint it should just die.

Give me a single reason I would want to watch a Simpsons reboot over an actual new cartoon.

If they were to revise the format to allow for a more serialized approach and tighter continuity, it could give the show a new freshness.

in my opinion seasons 1-13 where best. there have been good modern episodes like a tree house of horror sketch the lampooned both the 1954 and 1998 Godzilla films

Doubt it. They'll just find replacements.

You can't reboot something that's been around that long. That's a New Coke scenario.

Their only choices are kill it or keep it on life support.

no

at this point just have the characters actually get older. as people die introduce new characters. still have the main characters be the Simpsons I guess, but bring in new writers who loved the show in its prime and are willing to tell new stories, and have the overall show be more about Springfield as it continues to change.

I don't know if this could even really work, but it would be interesting to watch even if it completely failed. Simpsons is in a unique position of being around for decades and staying generally culturally relevant throughout. If characters could die or or grow older and have real change, that could be something really interesting.

At this point its not like they'd lose credibility or standing by trying something really out there.
