Anyone here know what America Chavez was like before Gabby got their grubby hands on her?

Anyone here know what America Chavez was like before Gabby got their grubby hands on her?

She was a generic angry Latina in the Vengeance book

Read Young Avengers and Ultimates.

Really fucking gay, like everyone Gillen writes.

I remember liking her well enough in Young Avengers. I think that's the only thing I ever read her in though, so I don't have much to compare it to.

>Anyone here know what America Chavez was like before Gillen got their grubby hands on her?
FTFY

She was conjured out of thin air by Wiccan to be his perfect sassy Latina fag hag.

There needs to be more porn of her with dudes.

>Pre-Gillen America Chavez
Latina and straight
>Post Gillen America Chavez
Gay, but not Latina

Instead of being a fake Puerto Rican she was a lesbian from the lesbian dimension that punched stuff good.

Vengeance was a near insulting latina caricature salvaged by how sexy she was in the art.

Young Avengers was a controversial attempt to salvage what little canon she had from Vengeance (aka being a sassy spanglish speaking cunt) into a serviceable character that that served the plot of YA in a decent way. Honestly the worst thing about this rendition was the characterization kept from her premier but respect to Gillen for trying. I can't take anyone seriously that hates the origin he gave her since its literally a Wonder Woman analogue.

Ultimates was Ewing taking Gillen's remastering and fitting her into a role in the Marvel Universe that made sense and made the character fun, which is something Gillen failed to do in his struggle to make her relatable. I still remember how fucking hype I was when she beat Carol with a fucking table.

Some generic chicana that talks in spanglish and calls herself a chola or some stupid bullshit like that.

>Always with the cohetes
>Those are clearly bullets
Chicanos y la conchatumadre

Wie meinen?

なに?!

>I don't read comics, can anyone here do my homework for me so I can pretend I read comics?

Nobody remembers America wasn't originally gay and now nobody cares. Sucks bro.

>its literally a Wonder Woman analogue
That is not a point in its favor

>That is not a point in its favor
Maybe, but since Marvel is full of DC analogues most of which Sup Forums likes, it's not as conceptually ridiculous as people like to claim.

>can't take anyone seriously that hates the origin he gave her since its literally a Wonder Woman analogue.
Doesn't make it good.

This. Kill yourself, OP.

Generic but inoffensive. Just kind of there.

It was literally and unironically worse.

America (vol.1, 2017-2018) is a brave, political comic, tackling complex social issues.

>Read Young Avengers
Nobody should be subjected to that.

>important part of Kid Loki saga
>but also terrible
I will never not be mildly annoyed

She was great in Young Avengers. Fuck you guys and your constant hateboner for it. I really liked all that multiverse stuff and enemies like Mama, that was an awesome adversary. The fact that her powerset was well explored there and in Ultimates deceived me into thinking Rivera would devote an entire solo book into America's adventures in a myriad of worlds before going home to her white normie girlfriend.

UGH I still get mad over the wasted opportunity. This should have been I've of the coolest book around and now it's the butt of the joke. Specially hate how it launched the career of the D&C dumbass.

he was talking about Gillen's run, not about the overrated Heinberg stuff

different user, but 99% sure he was talking about the Gillen run too

Am I the only one who liked YA here? And do I live in the fucking bizarro world. I swear to god I remember Sup Forums fellating the book when it first came out. Did crossboarders change the opinion?

No, Sup Forums always called it pretentious hipster bullshit/tumblr. It basically replaced Scott Pilgrim as the go-to pretentious hipster bullshit book.

I posted above saying I liked it, so clearly you're not the only one. And while I wasn't around then, I'm sure Sup Forums must've liked it too, I really see no reason not to. They're just being contrarian.

>Specially hate how it launched the career of the D&C dumbass.
Hi everyone it's ya boy Zack and today I have a review of America #10 ugh I was basically going down to my comic shop the one where the guy who works behind the counter who likes to collect a lot of Spider-Man action figures who sent me an e-mail once calling out those people who do purse puppying on their bulls-- sorry hehe crap can't swear and he was like "I can't believe they're still putting this stuff out, it's really just so bad and not even the girls that they try to convince to buy Ms Marvel want to go near it" which-- which reminds me of a muslim friend of a muslim daughter who looks at Kamala Khan and just goes "who would even like this stuff" which I think really just makes it clear SJW Marvel HAS no audience, if they went back to using 90s creators an audience of over 40k that watches my videos would be there already and that reminds me of the good things we had in the 90s and forces for good in the comics market, like, like Wizard Magazine because that was such a honest publication that really only wanted comic readers to find the comics they'd like the most and nothing else because comics used to be a fun meritocracy and now you have all that childless weirdo material like Superman taking a vacation with his wife and son I mean like that's just so weird you know because when I was in the army the only thing all the guys agreed was that taking your family on vacation is really a childless weirdo thing to do because that's really really just so odd you know, really shows DC pushes an agenda too sometimes hehehe Oops sorry I had to dodge a meteor since I'm recording this in a volcano active in the Prehistoric Age god the reception in this place is just so bad, so SO bad, oh yeah the cell phone battery is running out so this comic America #10 is dumb and the art is ugly. As always be sure to like share subscribe, donate on Patreon and I'll have other 20 videos up today thanks bye.

YA was the ME 3 of comics. Really pretty, but the writing falls apart under any scrutiny, the "vast unknowable villain" turns out to be boring, and it ends in about 5 minutes with no explanations.

I liked ME3 though

>literally the fist comic I read in real time
>loved the young avengers
>loved Kid Loki
>liked Miss America from Vengeance
>FUCKING MARVEL BOY was in it
>It ends up boring schlock
What a terrible sign of things to come, I should have quit Marvel right then and there.

>Oops sorry I had to dodge a meteor since I'm recording this in a volcano active in the Prehistoric Age god the reception in this place is just so bad, so SO bad
Oh god I'm dying, this is so accurate

The multiversal stuff in Young Avengers was so crap. They didn't even do anything with it, they didn't use it to explore the characters, develop personalities, histories or relationships. It was just them but evil and looking weird, they barely spent any time in any of those alternate worlds

Mckelvie is such a bland fucking artist I couldn't even begin to give a shit about it. How they basically put all that America is from a gay universe shit in the last issue like he was pissing on her leg to show ownership was pretty stupid.

I liked how in the Hulkling/Prodigy issue they basically just distorted the illustrations on whatever editing program they use to pretend they were drawn in perspective. Looks like shit.

If you contrast it with the issue where Marvel Boy shows up in that spread page full of Le Quirky Numbers you can see crystal clear the difference between something drawn in perspective versus "fix it in post".

Young Avengers all came back to Billy and Teddy's bullshit, like always. The other characters are just props for their gay drama.

I'm talking about the Gillen run. It's awful garbage more in the style of Phonogram or Wicked+Divine which is when Gillen is at his worst.

There was good Young Avengers stuff that didn't just focus on them

But then Children Crusade happened, and immediately after that was Gillen's run. So that created the perception that it was all about those assholes.

>I'm not sexist, but I'm gonna pack a shit-fit over Lois Lane driving a camper van and Terra not having stripper tits like she did in the 90s
>I'm not homophobic, but I don't think gays can or should be main characters in comics because I- I mean most people can't relate to them
>I don't hate trans people, but I will mock them for being mentally ill and insist there's an agenda at Marvel to make women look more like men
>I don't have an agenda, but I'm gonna give this entire issue of Superman a low rating because Krypto is in it, and I don't like pets on principle
>I'm not a retard, but I'm gonna give this issue of Aquaman a low rating because I couldn't read it underwater.

>Doesn't like The Singles Club

This is why you don't deserve to live, scum.

The Aquaman thing is easily the most retarded thing I’ve ever seen anyone do. He sounds surprised by the fact the comic starts to fall apart, it’s ridiculous.

Just went through the archives. Laughing at fags who thought tumblr was a paying audience.

>Teddy will never escape Billy's bullshit
GAY SPACE CONAN WHEN?

When Xavin comes back to Earth asking for help because the Skrulls are in the middle of a Civil War and they need him to unite the empire

God damn that's hilarious.

I still have no idea whether he was joking or not, but it was really stupid. Just like when he purposely bought an issue of Squirrel Girl just to rage over the drawings and tear it apart on camera. Like yeah, the art style is ugly, whatever. But that shit isn't for you dude, who gives a fuck.

Ewing did cool things with her. For example once she went to the Punch Dimension(you know, the one where Cyclops' eye blasts come from) to accelerate in order to punch through an alien.

Still pretty fucking awful in Young Avengers.

You're confusing two scenes
She created a portal from the Punch dimension to optic blast through an alien whale in space.

In an earlier scene she went to a universe where Gravtion reigned and went to war with the other fundamental forces, that's where she accelerated in supergravity to give her next hit more force

Right. It's still cool. Hell of a lot cooler than fucking ancestral plane, whatever the fuck that pagan bullshit was about.

I went back through some comic book sales figures and Young Avengers never sold *that* well.

It didnt do bad but it tended to be #25 on the top-sellers list. Batman, Spidey, JLA, Avengers,, X-Men were the usual suspects in the Top 10, Top 20. And of course it was a Avengers spin-off so it had that going for it.

Did people really see it as big this huge success?

I'm willing to be it did very well in trades

>Americhicanos

Do spics in murrica actually speak in english except replacing random words to spanish, or is it just bad dialogue from people who've never interacted with a spic in their life?

UNDOCUMENTED MIGRANTS!

The latter, it's like how we have French people add random French words, and Brits say "Cor Blimey" every other sentence.

Is this an edit?

No, Rivera got her start writing a book. What most people won't tell you is that it's a fetish book.

So she's pretty much squeezing whatever she can where she can.

>speak in english except replacing random words to spanish
Forget Spics, I don't know anyone who's bilingual who talks like that.

That's actually an age-old comic book tradition.
Claremont was quite guilty of that... but he USUALLY limited himself to a limited number of words(mostly exclamations) and stuck to them.
That way one would know right away the character was [NATIONALITY] but otherwise wouldn't bother much or make the reading any harder.

Rivera otherwise...
