X-Men Blue and X-Men Gold ending this summer

To be replaced by relaunched team titles. Source: BC Nice of Shogun Yoshida to cancel two of Marvel's few decently selling titles and continue the company's proud tradition of needlessly relaunching books for #1 bucks.

Yoshida-San....n-NANI....?!

Good shit, fuck Guggenheim and fuck the O5. Now bring back Cyclops and we are good to go

If it means we can actually get Uncanny 700 this year then of course Marvel would do it.

>unironically being upset that we might finally be rid of the O5 and Guggenheim
What's wrong with you, OP?

>Nice of Shogun Yoshida to cancel two of Marvel's few decently selling titles and continue the company's

You do realize they are going to be relaunched as X-books for new number 1s right? It'd be stupid for them to revamp the teams without establishing a new series.

>NANI....?!
What was this meme about?

Which one was the book that sometimes made it to the Top 10 in CMX?

Both of them

If Gold is going to be relaunched as Uncanny and Blue presumably as adjectivless then why are they about to launch Red now?

The only answer is this is because of the Disney and Fox deal and Red was in the works for awhile.

That's not too surprising. The sales are good for current marvel, but pretty low for what should be the prime x-titles, and the Legacy cover boost seems to have already fallen. The December numbers are not out yet, but the issues immediately following the covers were almost at the pre-cover levels.

Red was something they had planned while Alonso was in charge. It's probably getting reworked as a mini series. No way was that book going to last anyway.

Maybe it's a stealth mini? They'll just keep bouncing Jean

The books ending and relaunching was something most people were expecting. Hopefully they get some good writers on stuff this time. I wouldn't mind Bunn sticking around on an X-Force book or anything to do with Magneto but Guggenheim can fuck off. The inevitable teen team book better go to someone like Bemis or Hastings.

>Guggenheim

he's so bad

He has literally never written anything good. Even his TV stuff sucks apparently (I don't watch Arrow or any of that shit but I see enough bitching about him there too).

Rosenberg has a few Xbooks already, wouldn't mind him getting one.

Hi, tool.

He's pretty mediocre

I don't know who he blew to get Phoenix Resurrection

>canceling blue and gold
good, we are getting x-men and uncanny x-men back. getting jean, cyclops and wolverine back. its going to be a 90s renaissance

It's not a horrible idea to do another relaunch for X-Men since there's no real event this year, the only problem is it was only a year ago since the last one
We all agree Blue as it is needs to end, and while Gold serves a purpose it could be a better book.
I hope they're not going to get rid of the color coded strike forces they introduced in Phoenix #2, while 6-8 X-teams seems like overkill, the market could handle it if Blue and Gold's replacement went to monthly and Marvel put out 2 X-books a week.

and for the love of all thing X-related bring back the classic logo already

>If Gold is going to be relaunched as Uncanny and Blue presumably as adjectivless then why are they about to launch Red now?

I think we'll get X-Men Unlimited back too. Cebulski was an editor on that title way back when.

It's so telling that they hyped up the O5 with no real endgoal. It kind of shows you the state of Marvel where they say something will be really big then they have no idea where to take it.

i stopped reading comics around uncanny x-men 440ish. x-men was always my jam and now that im done with uni and have my life all boring again and money to spare i want to jump in again.
im going to eventually read all the issues i missed, but im curious to where a good jumping in point is now, or should i wait for whenever this new relaunc is?
i know the basic gist of how things are, like wolverine is dead, cyclops turned bad maybe, and jubliee is a vampire, so spoilers arent an issue really

that's how all Bendis ideas are, he never has an ending planed out, the one time he did it was that god awful GOTG where beat Thanos off panel
other writers will be wrapping up his subplots all year in Iron Man and Spider-Man and they'll just keep the Defenders on the shelf and hope we all forget

the last relaunch starts with X-Men Prime and continues with Gold and Blue, Gold is pretty self contained but Blue continues the story and team from All-New X-Men volumes 1 & 2 and is balls deep in X-Men alternate reality nerd porn.

They only sell well because they have fucking xen in the title

>We all agree Blue as it is needs to end
It just needs a new line up.

>while Gold serves a purpose
needless nostalgia bait?

Jojofaggotry.

Honestly, I'd say wait for Cyclops to return. Things are such a convoluted mess with the constant relaunches over the past few years - there's been at least three line-wide relaunches - that it's not worth jumping into until Marvel shows they're willing to stabilize the line.

If you bowed out around Uncanny 440ish, I say read:
> Brubaker/Fraction/Gillen Uncanny X-Men
> Mike Carey's X-Men & X-Men Legacy
> Whedon's Astonishing X-Men
> Remender's Uncanny X-Force
> AvX (because it's unfortunately relevant)

Anything after AvX is mostly garbage.

Blue's cast was about to mostly be written off anyway, so why not relaunch without O5 baggage on the book?

I recommend reading wolverine and the x men vol 1 and vol 2.
If you want to know how everything will be new I currently recommend reading jean gray and then the current pheonix event. The truth has not been wrong.

>Nice of Shogun Yoshida to cancel two of Marvel's few decently selling titles
You realize that Blue and Gold were the first X-titles to get outsold by titles like Wonder Woman, Flash, and Superman, right?

Go back in time to 1993 and tell me that the X-titles were going to get outsold by WW.

And no there wasn't any major bump in WW sales due to the movie. And no I'm not just including Flash because of the Button issues.

X-Men Blue and Gold were the first time "A"-list X-titles got outsold by B-list DC books.

Blue and Gold were a failure and the quality was mediocre at best.

Bring back the real Cyclops.

He's very mediocre.

He got Phoenix Resurrection the same way Charles Soule got Death of Wolverine.

They're company stooges who went into Marvel professing "I'll suck any cock you want me to. I'll do whatever you say! I'll suck as long and as hard as you tell me to! Whatever! You're the boss! Just tell me what you want done with these characters, editors, and I'll do exactly that!"

Pick up where you left off. Read the old stuff. Read Morrison's New X-Men and Whedon's Astonishing X-Men if you haven't yet.

The only good X-title of the last decade was Remender's Uncanny X-Force. Every single other X-book was complete and utter garbage. Do not waste your money or your time on it. It is hot trash.

Don't pretend that Uncanny X-Force wasn't trash too

>Wonder Woman, Flash, and Superman
>B-list

...

Inspired by Grand Design, over past couple weeks I read a whole bunch of Claremont stuff and Whedons run for the first time, already a fan of Morrison's. All of it made me realize anew Cyclops is the heart of the X-Men. The X books should revolve around a single GOAT squad led by Cyke like in the best runs, Morrison/Whedon/Claremont. An Avengers like squad of absolute professional adult X Men and a couple splinter teams. Special Ops, youth, off world whatever.

>You realize that Blue and Gold were the first X-titles to get outsold by titles like Wonder Woman, Flash, and Superman, right?
Amusingly that means Blue and Gold is still Marvel's #3 and #4 highest selling ongoings behind only ASM and JaneThor.

...

How is Jane Thor selling that well, is Aaron that much of a draw?

wolverine and the x men Was good tho

Lobdell and Milligan are the best Cyclops writers

I'm of the opposite oppinion. In that almost everything was good EXCEPT Wolverine and the X-Men.

Most of all because it is not about jean thor itself, it is more about many elements raised that have been there for years.
That and that she is dying.

It was garbage and full of unnecessary retcons

>jean thor
Please no.

>How is Jane Thor selling that well
"Well" means low 40k. ASM was 50K in November and we may finally see it cross into the high 40K range in December.

only appears as 10 pages so far and is to die, or nothing of importance was lost.

It would not surprise me in the slightest if Marvel was shameless enough to do a event where everyone became THORized and a Jean Grey Thor happens.

Gold is terrible. Am I the only one who thinks Blue isn't bad? I do hate these relaunches though.

Been there

Of course it has, what's next a event where everyone becomes Captain America.

>fuck Guggenheim
Gold is good tho

...

Next event is Infinity Wars 2, don't you know?

the period between 2001 and 2012 is one of the best in xmen history, but the one after 2012, from the beginning of the Bendis run, is probably the worst one

read

Morrison's New X-Men
Whedon's Astonishing X-Men
House of M
Decimation
Messiah Complex event
Deadly Genesis and Rise and Fall of the Shi Ar Empire
Divided we Stand
Necrosha
XMen Utopia
Messiah War
Second Coming
all X-Men Legacy by Carey, he is probably one of the best and most consistent xmen writers ever
Nation X
All of PAD X-Factor of the 2000s
Age of X
Gillen's Uncanny X-Men
Avengers vs X-Men (because ti was important)

after Avengers vs X-Men the only good books have been Spurrier's X-Men Legacy and Bunn's Magneto, but I guess you should read the mediocre Death of X to see the death of Cyclops, and the awful Inhumans vs X-Men to see the end of the terrigen mist plotline and the character assasination of Emma Frost. Those events put an end pretty much to an arc that begun with Morrisons New Xmen based on Scott and Emma.

>forgetting X-statix

It was so weird how Marvel Now promoted X-Men being more entwined with the rest of Marvel, and then Perlmutter happened. Like, they instantly folded back when they promised something.

A+X was a fun anthology though

How was Bunn's Uncanny? I never read it/

>Whedon's Astonishing X-Men
>House of M

They are relevant to the overall story.

FearItself was fun.

I have forgotten X-Statix, but I almost don't even put Morrison's New X-Men there because he seems to have stopped reading around 2004.
Milligan X-Force (iirc it begins with 116) and X-Statix, is a must read. I wish Vivisector were alive instead of having a gay Iceman.
District X was being published back then too and was pretty good, it ended with House of M, but got a House of M tie in called Mutopia. It's real end was probably X-Men: the 198

Bunn's Uncanny is good, but he is rather decompressed, and with Marvel that kills you because you also get derailed by a shitload of events. The only important thing that happened that was respected by future writers was Monet getting fused with her brother Marius-Emplate.

there was a new xmen book about new mutant kids, surge, hellions, rockslide etc, by kyle yost iirc, but I didnt read it though it has many fans. it was pretty brutal

What's wrong with Astonishing?

>relevance = quality

The writer, duh.

I'm going mainly by his comic work. He's one of the worst writers I've ever seen.

I liked it. There was some decent character work for Magneto, Psylocke, Monet and Sabretooth.

But you could tell that editorial was really limiting what he could do and he clearly wanted to do more. His Civil War 2 mini showed how much he wanted to play with the larger X-verse and history, when he was given all the toys to play with he actually pulled out more that other writers had been ignoring.

You can see the same thing in X-men Blue. Editorial has clearly saddled him with the O5, but he'd rather write about anyone but them.
That's why he keeps introducing more characters and teams, Polaris and Danger, Jimmy and the New Marauders from the Ultimate universe, Bloodstorm and the HeX Men, Havok and the New Tian mutants, X-men 2099, Generation X, those weirdos from Madripoor.

neither House of M nor Whedon's Astonishing are considered bad books.
And I hate: 1) Whedon not realizing Ernst is Cassandra Nova. 2) The consequences of House of M, I sent letters to Marvel when I was a kid asking them to repower some mutants.

House of M is a very good AU, with probably the best versions of some characters. This is from a 2009 book based in that reality.

Quesada pls

It's just Japanese for "what?!". It's frequently used in anime, so pretty much everyone knows what it means.

>pretty much everyone

4 Kids Walk into a Bank was great fight me

Different user, but yeah it was. It's just his big-two work that has been pretty disappointing.

Maybe if the common thread between writers who are decent outside of Marvel might not be the writers themselves but how they are handled by Marvel internally?

There are many writers whose DC and/or indies are superior to their Marvel.

What are you doing on a clone of a Japanese imageboard where half of the boards are Jap-related if you don't even know one of the most meme phrases?

Time to get off the internet grandpa

Vely solly!

If Red gets the axe I can see it becoming another
Jean monthly in time for the Phoenix movie.

Imagine if House of M had led into a war between the Elder God's and Celestials instead of the wank we got.

Russell Dauterman

there was an easy solution to House of M

No more mutants, instead of eliminating almost all mutants except 198, erases the mutant gene from humans.
You can keep every mutant you had before that, but from that moment on new mutant can only be born from mutant on mutant sex.

you could have evil mutants who kill mutants in relationships with sapiens because they see them as race traitors since they would have human offspring, that kind of angle.

Yeah, therefore the problem isn't with the writer but whatever the hell it is Marvel's staff is doing?

Damn it.
I wanted an entire X Men color series.
Blue
Gold
Red
Black
and Pink for gay Iceman's team

Red is likely just a miniseries then now.

X-Men White with Emma Frost as a leader.

In that sceanrio would this happens
>Blue is the group for X-kids of old and new generations to shine with a classic mentor to led the team
>Gold is the nostalgia book for secondaries to get into
>Red is the Jean Grey & Friends series
>Black is X-force in all but name
>Pink is the SJW shit book where all the gay dyke X-men are placed in order to not ruin other books

These books are shit. Yeah they are better than the steaming pile that was the X brand post AvX. But these books are still terrible.

Fuck the 05
Fuck Kitty Pryde in a leadership role
Fuck Old Man Logan
Fuck anything that has even a tangential relation to Honey Badger.

Being an X-Fan in modern Marvel is fucking suffering. If canceling these books means there MIGHT be a good X-Book again, I'm all fucking for it

This.

That would be neat but what would it be about, following what suggests?

Pseudo-Brotherhood/Extinction Team book

She's a villain again now. Once Jean comes back she'll probably be her main rival.

How can we fit in Green for a classic Red-Blue-Gold (Yellow stand-in obvs)-Green color quartet?

X-Factor

Lately she's more like an anti-hero if anything, at least she was helping young Jean in her solo series.
