What even was this show?

Probably some sort of contractual obligation

>off model
how can it be off model if its a flash show
granted cheap, bland flash animation is an example of bad on-model, but still

do they get any royalties from TTG?

>the animation studio went on to make a bargain bin Kung Fu Panda knock-off
fucking really?
holy shit

I think OP might be referring to "Chop Kick Panda", which is 2D and not as terrible as most people would expect from a deceptive rip-off of a popular CGI film.

i had a really huge crush on both of them, and i posted my home address in a random amiyumi fanboard hoping that they would visit me, i also found out that yumi smoked so i was less interested in her because of that

Off model is just the buzz word kids use to describe a awkward looking scene.

A way to promote their pretty great music
I bought 3 of their albums after marathoning it

I wonder what they're doing now?

I think they still tour, mostly anime conventions
They also did a song for Teen Titans Go

I had a dream as a kid that Ami gave me a blowjob in my downstairs bathroom.

I think yumi was my first goth crush, crazy how that kickstarted a wave of goth fetishes for me

This show is honestly only a 6/10 for me but somehow i think back to this show even more than i do some of the other CN shows I liked more than it. Maybe it's because the girls are cute.
I've never really had "guilty pleasure" shows in the same way many other people have, but this is probably this closest thing to a guilty pleasure for me that i can think of.

they still do stuff and look the same
>Ami and Yumi where already in their 30's when this show was airing, it fucked me up

...

as funny as that seems I think one of them (or both by now) has a family

Are you kidding lol it was awful. They had it on Netflix for a while, it was 20 minutes and they just putzed around the dojo the whole time talking to eachother.

It's pretty bad, but it's not UNBELIEVABLY bad like the Ratatouille rip-off or the Cars rip-off.

As far as I know, they're still releasing albums in Japan. Most westerners don't realize just how stupidly, stupidly huge they were in Japan in the early 00s. You can still see traces of Yumi's fashion sense in modern Japanese girls nearly two decades later.

Holy shit, i thought they were just one-hit wonders cashing in on the money they earned. i didn't think they be that much of an influence on japanese pop culture

At least Japanese girls knew which girl was more /fa/.

>HHPAY thread
>No lesbian porn

Come on, Sup Forums. My folder is hungry

The studio also did The Mr. Men Show

They probably do since the intro is just the remixed version of the original theme.
And if they didnt get any royalties from that, they do now since they did the japanese cover of the night begins to shine.

I actually saw them on tour just last year. They're great performers and it was definitely worth the money. I believe they had just released a new album. I wasn't big on the single from it, but I always wanted to see them live so I went. They performed a lot of classics along with new songs.
They used to have their own show in Japan.

Fuck off weeb

Here's hoping this guy shows up again and does more cute.

or lewd

How rude. You should go fuck yourself.

Thank you based weeb for your insight.

Oh damn

They actually did a spanish version of the OP
youtu.be/lAPqCsO61dY

Yumi speaking Spanish at the beginning of this gave me funny feelings

Now that was a good show.

Screw you op I enjoyed it

Go away Benthelooney.

>characters look and act nothing like their real life counterparts
Looking at the real Yumi for the first time was a real disappointment, though I could swear there was a pic of her dressed like her cartoon counterpart

I need an edit without the guitar in front of them

>I thought you were fucking, look it up
Amy and Yumi are 42 and 44 years old, they're also both moms

youtube.com/watch?v=_6f-12EfUcA

The pilot looked so much better

I need an edit with our faces as their seats

I was trying to explain it to a friend and pic related is my best guess as to what they were going for.
I remember reading that someone at CN was just a Puffy fan and thought that the cartoon would help them find the American audience he felt they deserved. This was apparently also why they got the Teen Titans theme song gig.
Hi Hi Puffy was also riding a wave of kids’ shows inspired by or connected to Japanese pop culture.
I also recall a LOT of kids’ shows at that time being about musicians and trying to sell soundtracks. Class of 3000 and Hannah Montana come to mind.

So it was kind of all over the place.

I desperately wanted to fuck them as a kid, so I watched it every time it came on.

Did anyone see them live recently (they were in the US last year I think)? Were they still good?

A lot of people felt they deserved to be big in America, the lead singer of The Offspring even wrote a song for them that they perform in the show.

As far as I know that guy was Sam Register, who’s credited with creating the show.
He’s now the head of the animation division at WB.
Talk about humble beginnings.

There's a big industry for Japanese idols and bands... In Japan
No one has ever managed to make the transition from popularity in Japan to popularity in America
Someone at CN was like "I know! All these cute girls doing music are big money in Japan, why don't we try making one big over here?"
I have a strong feeling that they wrote the TT theme because of this and not the other way around
They made a cute TV show to try and trick kids into liking them
It didn't work and now idols and gimmicky girl groups continue to be a solely Asian phenomenon

Sex drives all

CN went all in with them, they even got a Macy's Thanksgiving day parade float, they really had faith in them becoming a big deal, but they just became popular with the niche anime crowd. They still tour the US to this day because they'll always have that fanbase.

Hi Hi Puffy was TTG before TTG. Except it had WAY less airplay.

I heard they kind of got shunned by the Japanese populous since they were trying so hard to appeal to gaijins. Their popularity in their home country sank around the time of their cartoon.

the 2000s were a wild time. iirc the guy who made it was a bit of a weeb to begin with.

>the offspring
You mean THE crazy taxi guys?

YA YA YA YA YA

...

Didn't he say he was gonna make a Babymetal show?
