HENSHIN

What are some Sup Forums characters who lack powers until they intentionally activate them? Or at least have some means of instantly poofing their costume on when needed?

Flash has that ring. That kinda counts.

Henshin a-go-go, baby!

But Diana Prince and Barry Allen (or whomever is Flash these days) still have their powers when in 'civvies'.

Billy Batson fits the description better than anyone else. And Mary and Freddy, of course.

Booster, if he ever takes his suit off.
Ironman can call his from across the globe.
Bruce banner has to get angry.

I'm honestly surprised there aren't more western heroes who just have like straight up tokusatsu style powers. Yeah, there's Power Rangers comics, and magical girls are sort of becoming a thing outside Japan, but the former is an adaptation of an adaptation, and the later is somewhat debatable as toku.

>magical girls are sort of becoming a thing outside Japan

It's because tokusatsu is fucking stupid.

Thor
Thunderstrike
Young Samson
Rick Jones/Captain Marvel
Firestorm
Colossus

Agreed
How about Jason Blood?
I guess ol' GL could fit in this too

Well yeah, of course toku is stupid. They're generally a type of superhero after all, and superheroes are fuckin' dumb. Doesn't stop it from being entertaining.

No stupider than western capes. They just took more from Samurai rather than circus strongmen.

Does this count?

Can Star switch between forms now?

>that green lantern picture hasn't been posted

You disappoint me Sup Forums.

Danny Phanton, Jake Long (until he learned to partially transform), El Tigre, Shezow, Randy Cunningham, Ladybug and Chat Noir, a lot of cartoon heroes do this.
For more older examples He-Man and She-ra, the Centurions and the Bionic Six come to mind.

Jason Blood though he has magic outside of his Etrigan form as well.

>Young Samson

Last episode shows she can. Just as her mother, and grandmother, and grandgrandmother...

...

Power Pack's suits materialize from another dimension or something like that.

...

>Wow (comma) Comics

DC really needs to revive that as humour book.

...

Seems like any shrinking character like the atom, ant-man, wasp fit the bill. No lantern has powers without the ring.

Classic Thor from his original appearance to when Beta Ray Bill first showed up

...

Yeah, but she's got magic in her normal form.

Darkhawk has the same shtick.

Tony could literally CHAKSOU when he had his Extremis Armor.

...

...

CHANGE! HYPER BLUE BEETLE!

...

This. They dance around in clunky armor and shout out their attacks, no shit that's not gonna catch outside of some weird island.

>shout out their attacks

Awwww, but that's the most fun part.

WEASEL SEEKS A HOLE!

RHINO'S HORN PENETRATION!

FIST UP RECTUM SUPER GOGOGO!

>Wondy spinning transformation
I sincerely miss this. Getting rid of it is just another way in which the character has been watered down to nothing.

Most toku traditions like transformation poses and shouting attack names come from other Japanese stuff like Kabuki theater or even manga (for attack names, which were really popularized by Kamen Rider, a loose manga adaptation - Ultraman and UltraSeven could fight mostly in silence sometimes), so there isn't much reason those traditions would pop up elsewhere.

Bump.

>Amethyst Ocean
At elast she has her porn star name ironed down.

>the guiding intelligence of Alan Moore.
HEH.

Amethyst show never ever.

Everyone forgets that Storm can change her clothes via lightning. IIRC, this only works on unstable molecules.
