JSA Storytime: Question

Good evening owls,

we still jesus

Hi!

I should probably read issues 9 and 10 real quick

who wants the good news or the bad news first?

Bad I guess? ;_;

Hello, Storyteller.

I get the feeling both are shitty in their own ways.

...

the good news is: there will be storytime almost every day for the next three weeks

the bad news: this is because OP is working mornings >:(

Good grief, best of luck OP

...

How early is mornings?

Weirdest thing this week might be Sup Forums getting upset by a 13 year old Runaways panel.

I can't get over this luxuriant mullet

out the door by 8 /o\

which one?

If you have no face it helps to compensate with the hair.

There's been two threads now

never change, Sup Forums

Malin keeps posting his 'ideas' for Thunderbolts and shockingly they are all total shit

So we got two interesting things coming out within the next year

New miniseries titled The Other History of the DC Universe, written by John Ridley, artist not known yet.
>The miniseries aims to reexamine key parts of DC Comics history, now told through the lens of characters from minority and marginalized backgrounds. DC’s press release says the series will “analyze iconic DC moments and chart sociopolitical gains through the perspectives of DC Super Heroes who come from traditionally disenfranchised groups,” and focus “on the lives of those behind the costumes, and their endeavors to overcome real-world issues.”
>Supergirl, John Stewart, Extraño, Vixen, Katana and Rene Montoya are all named as DC characters included in the story. The series is scheduled to debut in winter 2018. The format and number of issues has not been revealed, but DC has dubbed it a “prestige comic book miniseries.”

Sanctuary by Tom King, artist not known yet
>About a place where DC heroes can go to deal with the trauma resulting from the violence they’re a part of on a regular basis.
>“It’s called Sanctuary,” he continued. “We’re creating something where it’s sort of like a crisis center for superheroes. It’s gonna be DC-wide, all the superheroes, and it’s gonna be a place where these superheroes who are living violent lives every single day — Batman gets in a fight every single night, five times a night.”
>“We’re creating a place superheroes can go that mimics the good work people are doing for veterans around the world,” King explained, “where they can have a space where they can actually admit that this violence has had consequences for them and has affected them mentally, so that your greatest heroes, who are inspiring our children, can say proudly: yes, I’ve had some mental difficulties, and yes, working with people has helped me through them. And we don’t hide behind that.”
Booster and Harley are probably in this

Since it's been about a week since the last storytime, you may not remember but you're right the town that the Question talks about in the previous couple of issues is essentially Town and Country or Ladue, I'm just a bit mad that I didn't get into the storytime soon enough to have a discussion about STL suburbs.

it's amazing and saddening.

poor dude is a liefeld trying to make it in a perez world huh

I saw that. Incredibly trite stuff.

>Sanctuary
>book about superheroes dealing with the trauma of their violent lifestyles
Oh good, because that's a thing we needed, DC Universe: Other M.

PTSD is, frankly, right up there with rape in terms of subjects writers should be forever banned from touching with any length of barge pole.

This is going to be a fucking train wreck.

Jesus fuck

At this point I would care about Sanctuary if it was written by anyone other than Tom King.

Other History sounds like it could be really cool if it hits a good balance of comprehensive and reflective.

I have friends in Kirkwood, lol

I guarantee you those threads are started by some of those idiotic Comicgate people.

Cranky promise me you don't post in the boardgame thread in /tg/.

I'll try out the Ridley thing, even though I haven't kept up with the current American Way miniseries. The first one was pretty good up until near the end.
Sanctuary reminds me of that one little plot detail in the Zatanna Dini series that had every magical person attended the same psychologist.

bonus: Malin gave those guys a shout out as well

They sound SOOOO bad...

Someone posted a link in the win-o thread of EVS hosting D&C at 9:00am EST tonight, so I guess they are livestreaming now

yeah, he's figured out the one demographic that actually likes his art and ideas

this week has been so /o\ I haven't even gotten to kill things with my murderdog

I'm interested in that Ridley thing but it would really help if we had a History of DC to compare it to. I'm still wondering what the iconic moments are bc all I got is "what about the black skins"

King's thing is hilarious cause I made a joke about it when I saw the panel on the schedule and then it happened. I like to picture someone telling him he can't keep working it out in other comics so contain it to Sanctuary. I hope that's not where he's writing Booster tho

The title is a reference to that guidebook that was released after COIE, which was mainly focused on just superheroes on origins so this being the "Other" is really meant to signify how it's the nitty gritty I suppose.

Also, there's stuff like Kevin Kho being a survivor of Cambodian war crimes, so...there's things they could do.

I agree, but only because I've sampled both irl.

Well, if (of all people) Chuck Austen can write a compelling run about the various stresses and traumas of being a superhero, anything is possible.

Kirkwood isn't that bad though, apologies for posting an image during storytime but I think you would get a kick out of this user.

0.o....?

>but it would really help if we had a History of DC
Comics more concerned in establish continuity than telling a good story are a stupid idea.

I started up the new Divinity, it's pretty fun but no murderdog.

They both sound pretty cool

Ridley wrote Authority: Human On The Inside which was trash though so hopefully Other History will be better

yesssss

I'd have put some of the stuff just around Wash U more upper-class, I got lost in some of the semi-gated shit there once

I also think those comicsgate people are coming from Kiwi Farms as well.

Hey OP.

Man this is some American Jesus, ain't it?

But if the story isn't build on continuity and there are no massive events and crossovers every 3 seconds then what's the point?

Also unrelated question: why don't more people read comics????

Or you know, the screams are coming from inside the house.

I don't. I'm too busy bitching about how much comics suck, even though I'm an idiot who only ever reads Big Two shit and could easily branch out at any time, but won't due to the aforementioned idiocy.

And yes, this is actually me and not someone trying to mock me. Fuck the Big Two, I need to start reading other shit before I lose what little sanity I had in the first fucking place. Like, a person can only take their favorite hero getting shat on so many times before feeling the same battered spouse treatment X-fans suffer.

I love Diana and the Thunderbolts, but this is turning into a cruel joke. Fuck this.

I was thinking about running some PCR Elric comics, if anyone has them, some time? I always bounced off Elric in print, buuut it's been a while.

He wrote a run on JLA that was about the pressures of saving the world getting to the various members and the way they dealt with it. It was good, way better than anything I'd expect from Austen.

i'm mad about the diversitycomic guy because they're so fucking dumb it's not even worth engaging so they just fling shit forever. at least (most)real comics people also just laugh at him.

No, I get that. But the guidebook isn't continuity/canon anymore, well HYPERTIME, but anyway there's not really material to compare and contrast.

speaking of fantasy shit I started them Witcher books and now i'm wondering about getting the game(s)

The low-key most accurate one is Chesterfield being the place where St. Charles people go to shop. It's also fun when people say how hipster The Loop is, I'm like, "The Loop is essentially for tourists and bored Wash U students."

You're right about that.
It'll be interesting, I think, to see what exactly it sets itself up against.

Yeah I'm not getting why people seem to be having trouble with Other History, because both books scream "trades we want to be selling a lot of 5 years from now" and said sales don't come from comic nerds. They come from people who know nothing or barely anything and want to know more.

Austen is a good writer

>But if the story isn't build on continuity
What do you mena? From the sounds of it it will feature past DC events retold through the eyes of smaller characters that didn't get to do much in said events/characters before they became superheroes and how they dealt with such situations.

>why don't more people read comics????
It's an industry dominated by superhero comics and superhero comics have long histories and shit making people not interested in investing so much time to catch up.

YOU SEE ME NOW
VETERAN OF A THOUSAND PSYCHIC WARS

I have one of the games in my giant-ass backlog that I will maybe get to once I kill the demon and bag my man

truje.....truuuue....but the record stores were great, I got a lot of shit at Vintage Vinyl

That also works as an argument against Sanctuary

...

My mom actually met Tim Curry at Vintage Vinyl once.

>i'm mad about the diversitycomic
don't start getting mad at some literally who reads comics he doesn't like and rees writers aren't stroking his autism.

The Elric comics were kind of a thing for a minute on Sup Forums. That was just weird.

>"Why is Lois Lane driving the camper? Only MEN should drive!"
A fedora tipper acting like a fuckin bellend. Shock, gasp.

I want Garth Ennis to write Sanctuary.

It was one devoted user storytiming them, just like OP.

nice

I don't have any trouble with it. I just won't read it, but as you said, it ain't for me.

>how come this page has more than fifteen words on it?!?
>this doesn't look like John Byrne drew it. IT SUCKS!
yeah he's kind of a retard.

>>Also unrelated question: why don't more people read comics????
They do, but it's split between manga and indie and manga beats indie on price. Also the stigma, but it's more not knowing what comics are than that LCSs and the people who frequent them have a dirty reputation.

Marvel getting Conan back sure is going to appeal to, ummm, what, the 50-year old man demo?

We want the Busiek money

Actually, I did see a lot of older comics fans get super excited about the news.

I just kinda feel bad for Dark Horse now.

IDK if "poison ivy should have bigger tits" is particularly more retarded than "poison ivy should be a heroic feminist"

oh shit it's time for Squirrel and Hedgehog!

not to mention whatever the fuck Ennis is getting away with in D&M

they're going to have everything of value picked off one by one

How long you think they'll have Alien license now that Disney got Fox?

The games are good, but it's really the third one that acts as a sequel to the novels the most.
I liked the story in the first one, but the gameplay really has not aged very well.

>whatever the fuck Ennis is getting away with in D&M

The best Lovecraft story this side of Providence is what.

But what would you say to a new Warlord series from DC OP?

I'll give it a look in. The 2011 Cloonan Conan was pretty neat for a while. Conan still has some level of pop culture clout.

Dark Horse is low key one of the best publishers right now in terms of quality.

>Dark Horse becomes Marvel's Vertigo since Icon and Epic suck butt

When isn't she drawn with big tits? His hang-up over Terra was the really dumb thing.

Really? I was like Conan? Modern Marvel?
Nah.
t.51 year-old man.

man i'm glad i haven't watched any of dudes youtube cause it somehow sounds dumber than the Sup Forums threads inspired by him

I might check that out once it's finished. I lost interest after #2, it just wasn't as funny as it should be...

He's still in the upper tier of his brand.

I have the first one in a something new edition

we'll see if I can survive the gameplay or it needs hax

I'm actually kind of meh on reviving that particular property unless someone has an incredibly strong take on it.

there is no way that dude's youtube isn't dumber than your average shit on Sup Forums, it's fucking Youtube

Oh, yeah, it's not very funny as it is...disturbing.
Which works. Works incredibly well.

Get off the internet, grampa.

Yeah, I was rather confused by #2, but it's coming together astonishingly WTF and with a strong angle

>Squirrel and Hedgehog!
Gotta love it. Yes, NK, Americans will totally be insulted by being depicted as intimidating wolves wearing longcoats armed with robot falcon jets. And there's no way they'd take that sexy Baroness type fox character and draw a ton of porn of her.

Seriously, the makers of this show had to have been taking the piss.

I sure as hell didn't find it "disturbing" from what I read...

Someone linked me. I lasted about a minute. Three days later the dudethat linked md had a Nazi-defending meltdown on social media.
It was cash.

I was completely freaked out by the guy struggling with having his head blown in and only having the question mark as his communication.

It's cartoonish, but it's placed against the background very well.

I think so, at least, where it counts, such as above.

I don't know if "confusing" is a good word... it was all very straight forward after the first issue. Just thought it could've been funnier and less "realistic with a small touch of cartoon physics"

Probably soon, it is kinda their fault for being kinda too reliant on the Mignolaverse and not trying to get some more new comics but picking up Karen Berger was a good move but I doubt those books will do all that well even for Dark Horse standards.
It amazes me that Marvel didn't try to jump on an imprint like Vertigo sooner, when did they start Epic or Icon?

Nah, I'm fresh out ointment, I got nothing else to do.

Hurray, also, may you have slow mornings.

>monsters of history
>torquemada, nero, mengele

hmmm, no dillenger. i'll give him points for having a nazi even if it's not hitler.

>tfw you'll never be able to shitpost on Sup Forums in your 50s because you'll be dead by then

Top 500 for comic numbers is going to be interesting to see just how much the smaller-publishers can push out. The numbers for Lion's Forge are really low, even for a tiny publisher
