What went wrong? It was one the premier, most cutting edge art site on the internet.

Furries invaded.

Tumblr, then Pinterest.

Furries and other weird fetishists pretty much ruined it for everyone else
I just couldn't search for art about a show I liked without getting dozens of pictures of the characters in diapers

Combination of mediocrity hiding quality and popularity algorithms changed driving garbage to the top.

>Has "Deviant" in it's name
>Expect quality art and serious business

There isn't a goddamn vetting system. DA is now a glorified photobucket that masquerades as an art site.

The DA site is more corrupt every second

It stole peoples art and sold it to hot topic, that is one of the biggest reason why a lot of artists moved to tumblr. Also you can post porn on tumblr,no joke DA will take down your work even for "implied erection",happened to me.

these kinds of people, mainly

The user base is too young and immature. 12 year olds are always hounding you to draw their oc for free.

For every single piece of cool art on there, there are 20 disgusting fetish pictures.

>Expect quality art and serious business
and we got corruption & money laundering instead

This.

I was once involved in a discussion about moderation on the site where the Admin said they only have 3 people in charge of going through reported images.

This was before they made it even easier for people to post stolen content because you had to be the owner of said image to report it.

They're lazy.

As someone who had a DA account a decade ago, it was a lot of decent fetish art surrounded by low-quality mspaint art

But BOTH of those have horrible communities. Also Tumblr is a horrible website because of how difficult it is to search for new pictures of whatever you search.

and goes worse with the SJW issues

>Be me back when I was 12.
>Account gets banned when mods find out I'm under 13.
>Make another account.
>They find out who I am.
>Only ban me from the chatrooms this time and continue to let me post and shit.

Eleven years later and I still don't know how that happened.

It comes down to artists moving where they think they can best get attention. If a lot of their friends move, they will move.

Tumblr sucks for searching but the changes your stuff will get seen is still larger since people that like your stuff can put it on their timeline and show it to other people.

And tumblr being not artist specific means you get more eyes that wouldn't have signed up to DA.

Its really the same thing as people moving from My Space to facebook to twitter.

And ultimately? It goes back to the same websites. Artists don't stay by one website, they all have Deviant Art, Pinterest, and Tumblr links assembled together on their Profile Pages. So essentially these three websites are always connected. And in some cases artists add a 4th website to the mix, having a link to their Fur Affinity on their Profile Page.

>tfw all the greats of yesteryear have moved on
>there will never be another endzone
just fuck my shit up famburglar

>Site horribly outdated and ugly for today's standards
>No proper platform to rate and critique art mixed with horrible search functions makes it a drag to find new and GOOD art. The site is flooded with 5min mspaint bullshit.
>No proper or seamlessly updated community platform where people can discuss and learn to draw.
>site could and should evolve in many directions of which it has chosen not to do. Like incorporating ways to teach people to draw etc.
>horrible site navigation.
>infested with furry/fetish shit of which you have little to way to really truly filter out.
>overall site stagnation

Nowadays only artist use the website. It's not as fun as Tumblr or Pinterest. Also you can post whatever weird crap tha humanity can't comprehend and get praised by thousands of fetishists. But if you post something with actual penetration you get banned.

The real artist can't shine in a diaper-inflation-bondage-MSpaintOC environment
That why

A bad tagging system. Also categories don't work

i remember when that site first launched. it was a good place to get wallpapers. but now it's just taken over by degenerates.

Pinterest has a community?

What is pinetrest for anyway?

For conservative housewives to post recipes. Other stuff too, mostly white girl stuff. Don't worry about it.
