I don't really think that it was all that expressive most of the time(I always found it forced when they did the big head anime expressions thing), but it was consistent and the style was nice.

None of the attempted comedy was good, it was really good when it wasn't trying that crap though. That Atlas episode was pretty good.

The humor was disgustingly bad.

If I had to pick "the best" anime influenced cartoon it would probably be ATLA. Not my favorite but it's a well polished series.

>disgustingly
You seriously cant be this offended

There's nothing, NOTHING more off putting than westerns trying to mimic anime gags.

good thing it wasn't a comedy show

Using anime is supposed to be a crutch
AND RIGHT NOW, I NEED ME SOME CRUTCHES!

Thats just because anime is never funny on purpose.

I'd say that ATLA did it better, though I hated all of them for trying to do anime styled reactions and humor.

Avatar did it better.

And an imitation of something bad is still bad, if not worse.

God I hated this show.

Am I the only one who didn't care for this weebshit back then and don't care for it now?

Nice trips.

no it wasn't good, its just the only people who care enough to talk about it are fanboys. I remember back when I was like a junior in HS thinking it was embarrassing that a guy in one of my classes openly talked about it

There are only two good anime influenced cartoons and they are Avatar the Last Airbender and The Boondocks.

Maybe Megas too if it counts

ATLA came out in the mid 2000s.

I remember when Wapanese was used instead of weeaboo or weeb.

What is weeaboo even derived from?

pbfcomics.com/comics/weeaboo/
Also skub.

It was still part of the same creatively bankrupt trend

It was a filter put on Sup Forums to get them to stop saying Wapanese

LETS HIT THOSE CRUTCHES

Nah, every time western cartoons try to make "anime influenced" jokes and expressions, it's just cringy.

Everyone in real life and on here always says how bad GO is to me and yeah I dont really enjoy it besides a few good jokes its mostly the random screaming childrens humor
with that being said I tried to rewatch Teen Titans and it is very cringe and not all that interesting. It has the humor that shitty anime does and tries to make everything a joke.
character designs are fucking awesome though

I tried to watch it for the first time and got bored, wish there was a list of episodes you need to see to understand the story

Star vs. had some good anime jokes

I don't even get why it is so difficult for them. It's like they take one of those "how to draw anime" books and base it on that instead of, you know, actually watching anime

I'd generally agree.

On the subject of the 2000's anime boom, when did it start and when did it end?

For my money, it was wen Yu-Gi-Oh came over and it died around when Scott Pilgrim came out.

Avatar the Last Airbender was a million times better visually, the original Teen Titans cartoon is remembered for its serious episodes (which didn't use the anime style as much), and TTG isn't the super-anime show.

This is loss, isn't it?

FUCK YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP

To be honest the anime shit in TT is the reason I took so long to get into it. I watched young justice and loved it and only then did I decide to give og TT a go cuz as far as I was concerned Sup Forums conditioned me to see the show as anime bull and fap materials.

No. Teen Titans had really terrible humor even when I really liked the show. I was cringing even as a 12 year old with their pathetic excuse of american anime humor.

Avatar TLA did it better.

God no

It was a good show but the anime influences were godawful and this person is probably just conflating that.

Just listen to the themesong for christsakes. That's like the definition of out of touch execs just throwing japanese influence in because it's hip at the time.

Started with Pokemon man

Going on a limb here and gonna guess you are too young to remember it because it was the biggest media franchise in the world from like 1998-2000.

Wrong.

That's essentially it. It's references by people who aren't as familiar with the subject matter as they should be to properly pull off a homage beyond goofy reaction faces.

>lol muh cabbages hurr durp

Faggot

I would say I pretty strongly disagree. Teen Titans was at its worst when it was pulling anime gags. They feel utterly flat more often than not. When it shied away from them and stuck to a more JLU-ish style, its plotlines hit home WAY harder.

Avatar is better but it came out 2005 so not early 00s.

Started with Pokémon stopped around '07 when the anime crash happened. Since CR and streaming have gotten bit it has sort of taken off again.

I would've agreed with him when I was a kid, but then again, I was a really autistic kid.

after watching some reruns on CN, it actually is a lot more cringy than I remember. mfw teen titans go was right about us being blinded by nostalgia

Teen Titans doesn't have much of an overarching story, the majority of episodes are standalone with a few each season forming a separate arc. If you're interested I can list them off.

There are no crutches. I checked.

The Mad Mod episode where he tried to Britainize America was my favorite. Especially the Monty Python bit.

goddamn it was big the world over. It was a worldwide fever, even before the social media internet. It was goddamn everywhere.

teen titans was painfully unfunny and i thought the big head thing or emoticon expressions conflicted with the tone and artstyle too much to work

Exaggerated expressions don't come from anime. As a matter of fact, anime got it by imitating early cartoons.

Jesus fuck.

fast fowards to current year and we have steven universe stealing things from every anime the crewniverse ever watched only way way worse

I don't validate people too dumb to understand what "a crutch" means

You're a special kind of retard aren't you.

I hate waifu/raven threads on Sup Forums and they're always about or begin with this fucking teen titans cartoon

unlike modern anime and manga, cartoons don't revolve around baiting viewers with waifus so they'll buy worthless merch and a fucking blu ray.

It's still better than Light Novel Adaptation #149 or Moe Show With None of the Charm #792. There's like 200 anime per year and we're super lucky if 5 of them are any good now.

oh im sorry but its not... its really, really not.

>Maybe Megas too if it counts
Why wouldn't it? It has references to mecha anime you've never heard of, it's definitely more anime influenced than either Avatar or Boondocks.

I bet you think twerking is funny

No more policing our trheads you elitist nazi anti waifu pieces of shit
Im sick and tired of it, so stop or we will use force

Literally all of the cutaway gags and anime "expressions" were disjointed and didnt ever match the feel of the joke or situation, it makes the show literally unwatchable if you didnt grow up with it

Nostalgia is hell of a drug.
I was fan when I was little and I really don't want any episodes except for the real edgy ones or the final season. Anything else isn't really enjoyable.

There's a lot of TTGo shills in this thread

Strongly disagree. Whenever the characters went off model and did the anime shit, I cringed so god damned hard. It looked fucking awful.

I've caught some of the old episodes recently on the rare times CN plays them between TTGo.

The show really has aged horribly. Like, the episodes spanned a lot of the seasons, but they all felt really awkward.
I don't get why I liked it so much when I was younger, but I just can't get into it anymore.
And it's not cause I don't like action cartoons or anime references. Just finished going through the ENTIRETY of Ben 10 and it's sequels, and it didn't feel nearly as forced and awkward.
And I fucking love OK KO so far.

Something about Teen Titans just didn't last well.

This. I don't get why people found it excessive since it made up a 1 minute in an entire episode. You have to be autistic if it bothered you or you just didn't watch shit like Totally Spies

>or you just didn't watch shit like Totally Spies
So... if you were neither a disgusting fetishist, nor a literal fucking retard?

Both Mad Mod episodes and the Larry episode were great. The show only faltered when it tried to juggle all of them at the same time.

Cape shows aren't suppose to be funny you autist.

>TTfags are this autistic

Avatar feels entirely too well produced that it feels like a straight up Korean cartoon than anime and its influences feel very limited to Miyazakuli though Byrke did say they made everyone in the staff watch FLCL. I feel TT gets the limited animation style of anime down well which is a problem with most of these shows was that they felt far too well produced to be doing this shit and had influences that ranged from the Kanada style of the 70s and 80s and referenced more than just fucking DBZ.

Teen Titans was a really, really bad show.

>back to minecraft forums you ttg loving autist.

It's funny because over the top expressions are a crutch.

t. CN intern

>le cringe XD

Nice trips but is over there

>All hentai is tentacle porn
That's not even remotely true anymore.

The best anime-influenced cartoon is W.I.T.C.H.
Avatar has too many significant problems to compete.

But even between ATLA and TT, the latter comes out in front. Characterization this strong is rare in Western animation.

More than half the episodes were comedy.

Shut up, namefag.

>It was a good show

No.

Cry more, nostalgia fag. Your favourite fake anime is garbage.

Jesus, can you be anymore of a weeb?

/thread

was and still is.

>le weeb

not an argument

Two nukes are not enough

Tentacles is really the only thing about Japanese porn that is mainstream knowledge. It's obligatory to make a tentacles joke if mass media ever touches the subject of Japanese porn. Like Family guy.

>anymore

Hentai is about gangbangs now

Anime crash? This is the first time I've ever heard of this. What happened?

Can you be any more of a COD playing 15 year old faggot?

>unlike modern anime and manga, cartoons don't revolve around baiting viewers with waifus

They should though.

>unlike modern anime and manga, cartoons don't revolve around baiting viewers with waifus
Yeah, it's not like the most popular cartoon on Sup Forums is typical modern garbage - with its only unique feature being the perceived cuteness of the main character (and only the main character), and how much this board wants to fuck her.

Oh, wait.

Piss off, CN interns

When was the last time you watched Teen Titans?
It really is really stiff and awkward most of the time. It tries too hard with what it has.

That's not saying TTGo is at all good. It doesn't try at all. Something more in the middle is best.
I had mentioned watching all of Ben 10 recently, and I think it aged much better than Teen Titans. It had those anime moments and whatnot, but it didn't feel as forced for some reason.

It's not really a specific thing rather that a series of events. Note that this is referring to anime on western/American networks and not the actual industry as a whole.

Adult Swim got tons of shit over the Boston Bomb Fiasco with the ATHF things that a bunch of morons thought were bombs which eventually resulted in the block getting closed down. This was around the same time that Nickolodean began their Spongebob spam and killed most of everything else to make room for more Spongebob. CN began their live action push a bit later and started pushing CN Real which no one liked.

All these factors combined meant that there weren't any anime airing on TV for the longest time and really there still aren't that many. So anime dipped out of the mainstream for years until CR and streaming services started making a comeback again.

Ben 10 is not in the same fucking cartoon galaxy as Teen Titans in terms of overall quality.

Please go away. Seriously.

Long story short:
Anime was obscenely popular in the US from the late 90's up until about 2007. At its peak more than 20 US television channels had a dedicated anime block, you could by manga in airport shopping kiosks, etc etc.
In late 2007, the economy imploded, CN got new managements, and illegal downloading and streaming services became viable to the general public. Late 2007-2008 marked a sudden decline in US interest in anime, which only really began to recover in the last 3-5 years.
