Jane the Virgin is (still?) shot in California, while the DCCW shows are shot in Vancouver. Obviously, it's not a ridiculously long time to get from one place to the other, but it's still a small flight, and some considerations have to be made.
Plus, Yael Grobglas is part of the main cast in Jane the Virgin, not just recurring: she's in every episode, to the point where I'm honestly surprised she found time to do *two* guest spots for Supergirl.
