NIGGER PENIS!!?!?!?!?
MOZEL TOV!!!!!

Someone please post reactions if Spongebob bests Frozen for the best musical Tony.

Nobody here has ever gone to a musical, so who cares?

Not true, there are quite a few musicalfags here. Frozen musical would also attract the waifufags regardless.

I doubt patrons of musical theatre are especially triggered by progressive politics.

Not true. In terms of Sup Forums related musicals, I've been to Annie and Emmet Otter's Jugband Christmas

What rock have you been living under? The artsy-fartsy types are gaga for musicals. They clamor for color-blind casting like Hamilton & for shows to address social issues like in Rent.

Did you reply to the wrong person or just misread my comment?

>thinking they're not just using politics to generate discussion

L O L

God I fucking love that costume.

With whom? Why would they give a shit? The whole point is their politics means they don't care that a black guy is in a musical.

But I want one based on a Disney movie I actually care about like Nightmare Before Christmas, or Hercules, or The Emperor's New Groove.....

i need to know more about whatever the fuck this is

Isn't seeing a Broadway musical a "rich people" kind of thing?

I saw it when it first showed in Denver.

It had quite a few dark moments for...Frozen.

>parents say goodbye to their daughters and are lifted onto the shoulders of trolls and carried like caskets off stage while a church bell slowly tolls
>Elsa has a literal suicide song before she decides not to kill herself for reasons

The effects were underwhelming and underutilized but when they were good they were REALLY good.

There was also a “nude” scene and a few useless songs where it’s just Olaf, Anna, and Kristoff marching back and forth across the stage. I talked to one of the producers after the show and they said the suicide song will either be at least heavily changed if not cut—it was their eleven o’clock number but audiences were shocked by it, to say the least. The nude/sauna song will likely be cut as well because parents didn’t like it, though all the kids were laughing so hard they were crying when they saw it.

Not for the last 30 years.

Tell me about this... "Nude song".

Also, they didn’t remove the trolls per se, just made them more like actual huldre.

As a musical it was sort of weak because it relied too much on the movie. Audiences were able to fill in the blanks because they’d seen frozen but if you hadn’t, you’d be a little lost sometimes. The scenes didn’t have enough going on on stage—when the scenes actually had props/items/furniture in them they looked fine, but for the “Love is an open door” song the stage was totally empty except for Anna and Hans awkwardly dancing close in the middle of the stage. They didn’t utilize the space very well.

I assume when it goes to broadway they’ll get more props, more items to fill the stage with, and they’ll figure out more ways to utilize the neat effects. And they’ll remove the suicide song. It could be good but I think it’s relying too heavily on the movie and can’t be its own thing, like the Lion King

It’s called “hyuuga” and it’s about warm fuzzy feelings that come from the little pleasures in life. The sauna owner sings and twenty people in nude-colored bodysuits and towels come out of the little sauna house, clown-car style. They do a dance where they link arms and high kick while the actress playing Anna gets a chance to change clothes for the next scene.

I saw the original 2008 performance, it was entertaining but also like a furry fever dream. There's something surreal about leaving a theater and seeing a bunch of theater actors standing in a back alley dressed in full furry outfits having a post-show smoke.

My bad, it’s spelled “hygge” but it was pronounced “hyuuga”

Elsa gets a love interest in this??

Sounds sexy... Sad to miss it.

it wont even last a year

I saw Hamilton last week

But you're gay.

I mean we're on Sup Forums aren't we

Kristoff being black reminds me of the surprising amount of white people in the Festival of the Lion King musical at Animal Kingdom. You'd think someone would get upset by whites in African clothing nowadays. Good show though.

Sort of. They're not trolls anymore, they're magical forest people.

>they said the suicide song will either be at least heavily changed if not cut—it was their eleven o’clock number but audiences were shocked by it, to say the least

So we'll never get a proper cast recording version of it. Damn.

>I talked to one of the producers after the show and they said the suicide song will either be at least heavily changed if not cut—it was their eleven o’clock number but audiences were shocked by it, to say the least

The producers behind Anastasia did this with the Anastasia musical too.

The pre-Broadway version was a lot darker. Pre-Broadway, Anya and company had to jump off the train because it was filled with fleeing secret nobles and other people who were prosecuted under the communist regime. The train gets stopped and you suddenly hear a gunshot... one of the men they met earlier, who recognized Anya as Anastasia, as recognized, pulled off, and executed. So they leave before they are killed too. Then for Broadway they make it comedic, with the trio finding wanted posters of themselves on the train, so when it gets stopped they make a run for it.

They still kept a bit of the darkness in, but not quite as much. I'm stunned they kept in Anya's nightmare where the ghost of her little brother gleefully tells her "I'm going to die!"

I'm still in shock that no one ever bitched about Jonathan Freeman being in "brown face" for Aladdin. Especially since it's totally unnecessary, given that Agrabah is described as being an international metropolis in the show.

>sucide song
>nude song
What were they thinking?

The worst part of the Denver show was Let it Go. Not only were their hundreds of little girls singing along (never, ever expect to see this show on Broadway and not have to deal with little kids singing every song that's in the movie) but it was so visually boring I wanted to scream. The Disneyland theme park show is literally more magical.

I think people gave it a pass because a) how often do you get an original actor to do a stage adaptation, and b) black Genie.

oh hey I know the girl who plays Anna in the Disneyland version

I thought the quick change was great, but that was literally the best part of let it go. You’re right, it was visually boring. Just having lots of glittery bead curtains didn’t really do much as an ice castle.

Did you?

They're still milking Frozen?

When's Disney gonna let it go?

yeah, the Asian girl

Black people hate cold weather though. Nobody black lived in northern Europe in that era, not even as slaves.
>mfw this proves that Frozen is too white for BroadNose

Frozen 2 is coming out next year, user.

LET IT GOOOOOOOOOOO

>Not only were their hundreds of little girls singing along

That sounds cute honestly.

NAYRT but I've lived it too and they don't sing it nicely at all, they scream it as offkey as possible. It is more disruptive than cute.

What's sad is if you look at the concepts from the designer who was fired from the Broadway production, he had some interesting ideas about the ice castle which were dumped in favor of... well, as you said, glittery bead curtains. What was so surprising was that they dropped a curtain during the number, so when it lifted I expected some amazing stage transformation... nah just some projections and glitter beads.

When they stop making a billion per year off Frozen merch.

Hundreds of little girls singing during a show with butt-fucking expensive tickets isn't anymore cute than the drunk guy behind me who started singing during Wicked. At least with the solo drunk guy you can get an usher... what can they do against hundreds of little kids who are programmed to screech out LET IT GOOO anytime they hear it?

An asian girl plays anna?

>Anastasia

Let me have a moment, let me say goodbye... ahh ahhh ahhh...

youtube.com/watch?v=1cvJo31jGfo

tfw you realize they reused the melody from In the Dark of the Night for a somber number about people fleeing Russia

indeed

Disney opens the casting for its park shows to any ethnicity. Pretty sure at this point someone of every ethnicity has played every character... except maybe Hans, I don't remember an asian Hans in any of the videos.

I'm still sad they cut down the Disneyland show... no more tombstones or Frozen Heart.

...

>what can they do against hundreds of little kids who are programmed to screech out LET IT GOOO anytime they hear it?

I wonder how they're planning on handling that when it opens for real.

Sup Forums adaptations are Sup Forums, dear.

only fags watch the Tony awards.

I honestly have no idea. They might not do anything.

The only thing that might work is having an announcement before the show... and make it an announcement once the lights are down or people will still be talking and not hear it... saying--more cheerfully of course--something like "Remember, please let our actors on stage do the singing! No talking or singing during the performance!" and then add a Let it Go audience sing-a-long during intermission or after the curtain call so the parents can tell the kids who want to start singing "remember dear, not until after the show!"

the Tonys are the only industry award show worth watching

Reminder that Kinky Boots won over Matilda

if your GAY!

Elsa has a really strong nose

because it was the better show?

It might have been a nice song but it was so fucking out of place with the rest of the songs in the film. Would have been better just putting it in as a deleted scene on the dvd.

Sure.
It's theater so the racebending doesn't really matter.

hahahahahaha

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I went to see wicked and chitty chitty bang bang.

you want to talk about shows getting robbed, fucking Jersey Boys beat Drowsy Chaperone AND The Color Purple

now THAT is some proper bullshit

That Anna is a qt

Sup Forums musicals I've seen:

The Lion King
Aladdin
Beauty and the Beast
Anastasia
Spongebob
Annie
Shrek
The Little Mermaid
Frozen
The Addams Family

And that's just the Sup Forums ones... and also counting cast recordings I've listened to or bootlegs of different productions. Good ol' Netherlands Little Mermaid and her conehead hair.

Matilda hurts me more because it was such a clever and beautifully done show. I could listen to the lyrics for ages and still find new things about them to love. But, at least the show lived a relatively healthy Broadway life and has/had life on tour.

Groundhog Day on the other hand... its failure has crushed him and he now says he won't be working on any more Broadway endeavors. It probably didn't help that the plans for a US tour fell through.

You'd think that they'd get a cuter girl for Anna, regardless of race. When I went to Disney World in Orlando, all the Anna's were cute and looked the part, but the Elsa's never looked right. Going of your pic, Disneyland has the opposite problem.

I get what they were going for but those cone wigs are ridiculous.

The actresses who play the characters in the stage show aren't the same ones who play them in the parks. They need to be able to sing, memorize lines, and act on stage, so the casting requirements and process is different from the face characters.

Interstingly, Disneyland makes a distinction with the stage show Anna and Elsa versus the ones kids meet, since they tell kids that these aren't the real Anna and Elsa on stage, but actors.

Sweet, an excuse to discuss theater. I wish there was a place online to discuss it in general. I actually have a question I've been looking to ask theaterfags, so if there are any serious ones here, I'd like to ask it of them.

I feel like older musicals have a ton of songs that don't move the story along or say anything about the characters or story. The most obvious example I can name would be Shipoopi from The Music Man. This is much less common in newer musicals, though. Is this an illusion based on the selection of musicals I've seen, or is it actually the case? If it is the case, why?

I've only seen the Chicago preview. I'm hoping to get an opportunity to see the New York version at some point. Maybe someone will record it?

Where would one be able to see the concept art?

I wish the latest union TLM tour had kept the Netherland style gown. They had Ariel's hair down which looked better, but they gave the actress this weird, huge bulky dress from a previous production... not only did it fit strangely but it made her look horrid while "swimming" in the air. Thankfully the one they replaced it with was a bit better.

I'll see if I can find it for you!

This Elsa was pretty.

>though all the kids were laughing so hard they were crying when they saw it.
>kids love a scene
>but we have to get rid of it because people become 10x dumber when then have children.
Shame. I can kind of understand removing suicide stuff but a nude scene removal is a huge shame.

That sounds great.
Parents ruin everything once again.
