So... Avatar Press might be shutting down?

>I think Avatar Press are shutting down their comics publishing in 2018. They've wrapped up their last few current ongoing series, and it looks like they have nothing planned to follow. Their staff are moving to other publishers, and their solicitations have no new material.

why did they even exist

To punch neo nazis in the face while looking like they agree with them?

Providence was fantastic but I guess it couldn't save them.

Who?

Has BleedingCool reported on this? If they have been silent, then it is because they are owned by Avatar Press.

Rich has not, and denies that this is what's going on at Avatar.

Oh yeah, I see him being smug with his "I BET YOU HAHA" thing in that twitter thread.

To have all your favorite comic book writers to be at their worst

Iirc, they used to just do porn comics, then they let Warren Ellis do shit like No Hero and they become known as the place where comic writers could come to let their edge out.

They can't shut down. I want to know what happens in uber.

>OwTheEdge comics is shutting down
I has a lol.

Well, that sucks for them. The concept was interesting, but it would've worked better if they were an imprint of another comic company.
Is Uber and Crossed creator-owned, or are they company properties?
Anyway, who do you think who should buy them out? To be honest, pic related.

>it's a CBR writer rumormongering episode

Could someone translate this into english for me, please?

A Trump supporter can't read in his own lenguage.

> lenguage

Hows that google auto translate working for you?

Cinema Purgatorio seems like proof of this. They took everything that was in production, saved cost by leaving it b&w, and published it all in a book with Alan Moore's name on the cover. There's a new Crossed mini that's coming out in March, and it was rumored Ennis had one last Crossed story left, but otherwise, yeah, Avatar seems done.

>t.Imagepleb

So, what happens to LoEG, Uber and War Stories?

War Stories used to at Vertigo, so Ennis will probably take it to Image next, unless it wasn't creator-owned at AP

Somebody has to make murder porn like Crossed.

I'm not surprised. Avatar is just the first. They will start falling 1 by 1 now until all that's left is DC Marvel, Image and IDW

Of course the feminist has fingers too fag to type properly

I want to live in an age where it's socially, morally and legally acceptable to give bitches like this a single backhand to the cheek. Human rights were a mistake.

>the feminist has fingers too fag
>fag

They fid manage to bring out Moore's A game.

>Human rights were a mistake.
Absolutely correct user. I honestly believe we should have a facist monarchy in power.

the americans keep losing. japan might do something. russians are the greatest

I'll see you at Black Panther

The types of people who dont deserve human rights are sjws. Fuck you

Hood. Providence was a fucking shitfest.

Good. All they made was edgy tryhard garbage anyway.

They are called COMIC Books, Not EDGY Books.

This

But how long till they cut Bleeding Cool off?

I thought they got bought by netflix or amazon or something? Or was that another creator-owned imprint?

LOEG wasn't published by Avatar.

>LoEG
It was never published at Avatar. Moore took it from DC/WildStorm/ABC to Top Shelf (which has been bought by IDW since the publication of the last LoEG volume)

>the last Alan Moore comic will be published by IDW
How bizarre.

Damn it, if true.
Gage's new Crossed mini better be good. If it's gonna be the last hurrah.

That was Millar's imprint.

>Avatar is closing
>Boundless is still going on
Please explain

They just announced a new crossed series

>porn comics
like what?
most of their stories were going nowhere or could have used optimization. still they did give us some iconic stuff

Aye.
And I have to think the Giant Bugs vs Civil War would have worked better as an OGN or something.

but where will I get my stories about fish monsters fucking FBI agents?

From Del Taco

>forgetting about Ennis' war comics
Shame on me.

I seriously don't understand why you make a comic company in this day and age.
If you're selling less than 5,000 units on your comics, you're not making any money.

What shit comics sell less than 5.000 units?

Most none big 2 comics sell less than 5,000 units, which is the point where you loss money so why bother?

>Most none big 2 comics sell less than 5,000 unit
If true than they should go digital and adapt. famous web comics move more units than that.

lady death. It was bad girl cheesecake comics, not full on porn

They should. I don't know why, when you're selling almost no comics, you would continue to lose money hand over foot in a die industry by publishing physical comics.

yeah I assumed as much. Im familiar with lady death and most everything that can be considered a western porn comic (because how dead that scene is when compared to japan) so I was hoping to hear a new name or some anthology I did not know existed

some of the companies which comics sell lower than 5000 are
>Zenescope
>Albatros funny book (recently created by Eric Powell)
>Action lab
>Afterschock
>Vault comic
>Amigo comics
>Lion Forge
>Antartic Press
>Aspen

I can't imagine Abstract hits the 5k mark

it's not that surprising comics are a dead medium

DC will probably be the next to go since the very little money the comics bring in can't cover an eighth of the money they've lost from the massive failures of their movies and tv shows

And nothing of value was lost.

>Aftershock
Redpill me on them. I've read maybe 3 series by them and they all seem like TV/movie pitches except maybe Jimmy's Bastards. That pizzarello book with the red guy was interesting, but I dropped Black-Eyed Kids or whatever it was. Why does Aftershock exist?

>the americans keep losing. japan might do something.tiny ukranian is the greatest
ftfy

Its a shame because they've made good comics in the past. Extinction Parade, Providence, Uber, Caliban. It sucks that people just look at Crossed and refuse to look further into their catalogue.

Kieron Gillen
@kierongillen
>Uber Invasion is still ongoing. It's drawn until issue 14, and Daniel is on issue 15 as we speak. It's on a 9 issues a year schedule so it misses some months. I believe Cinema Purtagorio is bimonthly, so ditto.

Hell, Crossed has had some good stories as well.

Why is Hitler being punched?

It's Uber - the covers always lie.

Never read Uber so I don't know a lot about it. Is Hitler still alive in it?

Castalia Press to start publication of Alt*Hero! SJW swamp Uhvutuh Pruhss on suicide watch!

Long dead, secretly killed by one of his own Battleships who made it look like he had a stroke.

Goebbels had magic plastic surgery and replaced him without the public being any the wiser.

To a degree - it's a plot point. The final fate of Hitler still hasn't come to fruition but mostly because the action's been taking place outside Germany for the longest of times.

The opening of Uber is literally Hitler with a gun in his mouth and an underling stopping him from committing suicide as wunderwaffen have arrived.

No

>98562617
And here I was trying to avoid spoiling too much. Silly me.

If Avatar Press goes under, I wonder if any other publisher will pick up characters like her. Dark Horse maybe?

Er, are they the ones who do those awful Night of the Living Dead comics?

It's ok, whenever I read spoilers I tickle my own balls until I forget. Works like a charm. I'm going to go read it now.

They raised around $50,000 in crowdfunding money back in 2014, claiming to do a webseries headed by Ennis. They said absolutely nothing about it once they finished raising the cash, and now even the crowdfunding page is offline.
Why didn't anybody ever raise a stink about this?
web.archive.org/web/20161111225109/https://www.comcav.net/collections/crossed-doa

I just caught up

Germany just failed to incade the US, they have ONE battleship left in Sieglinde (and Sieglinde hates her life and Germany now)
Japan's only battleship seems morose and unwilling to partake in civilian casualties, which is limiting his effectiveness as a one-man-army
Russia will probably just be forgotten, or wrapped up in a very rushed fashion; there's too much going on with their ability to just create catalyst using Maria and her new understudy to wrap up neatly if Avatar press dies

tl;dr version: the Russian front is the only one that will suffer greatly from the comic ending sooner than expected

Why do you?

>/thread
Fucking no

Imagay pls

>he actually thinks he's retiring
Just you wait a year or two until that itch hits him and he's back

They try to appeal to the people who dont like Image.

I think everyone forgot about it since months had passed and they hadn't reached the goal.

Also, Dead or Alive ended after a few updates and that was that.

:/

>are they company properties
You likely won't be able to tell from reading the indicia since those exist to assert copyright which isn't the same thing as IP ownership.

I'm going to guess that since most indie publishers only last 10-30 years at most, the average creator does not sign away ownership of a property that doesn't exist in a shared universe. I'll also surmise that Avatar negotiated royalties to Ennis for the Crossed books he didn't write and that future reprints of them elsewhere can't happen without going through Ennis.

Then again he's a drunken bog trotter who's signed away his rights before so anything's possible.

They raised over $50,000 for a $30,000 goal. The webcomic was just promotion for the webseries, and not a word of it has been said since they got the money.
The same goes for the Providence hardcover kickstarter. I think it's these two projects, along with the Uber and Cinema Purgatorio fundraisers(which have at least delivered something), that are keeping them afloat at this point.

>I want to know what happens in uber.
It's literally at the halfway mark of the author's intended 60 issue run.

>company properties
Avatar only does creator-owned and licensed properties. It's a fuckload less work and if you don't publish a shared universe pretty much unnecessary. Even Image which technically manages one shared universe is still creator-owned.

Really? Last time I checked it was stalled at like 10k.
Then again that was in the early weeks.

Weird. And yeah they outright admitted that the Providence box set funds were used to produce the new Crossed mini.

>until all that's left are capeshit publishers.
Don't tell Oni, which is actually pretty successful targeting a demo that isn't interested in capeshit. Indie publishers on average if they survive their first 5 years last at best 10-30 before either imploding or being bought out. This isn't Europe where most bande dessinée publishers have better connections to traditional book distribution or Japan where people are still accustomed to reading inexpensive B/W comics printed on rag paper.

>I wonder if any other publisher will pick up characters like her. Dark Horse maybe?

Pulido bought back the rights to LD after all his other Chaos! characters got sold off to other publishers. I expect he'll add her back to Boundless which seems to be doing a fine job of living off of per-issue Kickstarter cash as well as print/digital sales.

kickstarter.com/projects/boundless/belladonna-fire-and-fury

THIS. Why read edgy comics about killing kids, rape, and horse sexual organs? Why not read something good like Ms Marvel, Moon Girl, America, Supergirl, Doom Patrol, Captain Marvel, My Little Pony, Rick and Morty, Spongebob, Lumberjanes, Rat Queens, She-Hulk, and Hawkeye.

What the fuck do you have against Doom Patrol?

Someone didn't read the latest issue

>DC will probably be the next to go since the very little money the comics bring in can't cover an eighth of the money they've lost from the massive failures of their movies and tv shows
You're an idiot.

It's that dumb sockpuppet that keeps going "lel comics medium is dead"

>They are called COMIC Books, Not EDGY Books.
Was that supposed to be clever or...?

It has to be done

Even if that were true, the movies produced from DC's IPs have virtually nothing to do with the actual DC company.

I think it’s a Joeal Schumacher quote except he said drama not edgy desu.

good
