never heard of it please eaborate

It's about an afghani girl who dresses up as a boy to help her family after her father was taken by the taliban. I don't know much more myself since it hasn't aired in my country and you can't find it on-line but I'm really interested in watching it.

No, it's not in cinema's here (yet). I really want to see it though.

>muh poor arabs abloblobloo
yeah no, thanks

Are there any decent quality downloads?

Deus Vult.

Go back to Sup Forums

I read the book in 8th grade English, though I remember fuck nothing of it.

I want to, not sure if I should import the blu-ray or wait.

Isn't that the show with the poorly designed ducks?

>Sup Forums boogieman

Confirmed for coming from Sup Forums

>make conveniently topical tear jerking cartoon
>OMG STOP COMPLAING AND EAT IT YOU RACIST
Stop being such a blind gullible sheep Jesus christ

You're right it's so gullible to believe that there could be actually people in other countries that suffer.

Comes out in july, but it's on my list.

It will be the first animated movie I'll go see in a long time. I got fooled once by Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet, even if the poem sequences were awesome, the main movie was a chore.

>Afghani girl dressing up as boy to win food.
>When Bacha Bazi is the reality of the situation.
Oh boy.

Yes and I loved watching those green ducks doing stupid shit.

But will it be better the Persepolis?

Yep, it was good. Coco's still going to win the Oscar.

It's stupid how hundreds of people here complain about how the animation industry is, but no one supports these kinds of films and they hardly get any attention.

Sup Forums's animation side would rather focus on popular cartoons and waifus

>delicious brown
>loli
>crossdressing

I'm sorry you got scarred by the Prophet. It wasn't a movie though, more like a bunch of music videos strung together.

I love indie animated films, but you have to admit the subject matter of this one isn't appealing for a lot of people for a variety of reasons.

Yeah I love the hyperactive video game reference cartoon about ducks
Is it better than Persepolis?

Which half of persepolis?
1st half - amazing
2nd half - meh

Yes, I saw it. It was quite good, though I had a much stronger emotional response to Coco honestly.
Definitely had a good balance in content where it was pretty “real” and had some harcore stuff (earned that PG-13) but knew when to pull back enough that you could still show it to kids. Vividly shows how shitty it would be to live there under Sharia law, if anything Sup Forums would love it if they didn’t immediately REE at anything with brown people

Its almost as if Sup Forums‘s populace is primarily autistic, huh?

Where did you see it, or how can I see it?

tried to watch it, was not able to locate it to watch for free. might buy it at some point, put a price alert on it on amazon..

I will probably go see it because I really want to support the studio that is making it: Cartoon Saloon. They made "The Secret of Kells" and also "Song of the Sea" where are both excellent and they are still doing non-CG traditional 2D animation. Pic related.

So yes, I'll support them. I'm not a fan of the story content and politicization though.

I read the book, thought it was pretty good

How the fuck did Boss Baby and Ferdinand get into the same category as OP and Loving Vincent? The Oscars make no goddamn sense.

Have you seen Boss Baby? It is literally the best animated movie.

The theater, almost two months ago

>Afghanistan
>arabs

I went to see Long Way North (tout en haut du monde) recently, I was blown away. Unusual setting (polar exploration in tsarist russia), good looks, great characters, EXCELLENT story and morals, even if the epilogue smells like lack of money. A marvel.

I've missed zombillenium, due to hearing mixed reviews about the scenario, and now I regret it.

Shame the string was so awful. They managed to fuck up the 3d completely, while making gorgeously animated 2d background sheep.
Dat Joan Sfar tango, tho.

I have.

you're so silly

I thought it was Breadwinners the show on Nick,

The tonal difference was really surprising making it a very intense watching experience but it was favourite film last year and last year was a hella year for film

Did this come out in the US? I don't remember seeing it playing in any theaters in my area if it did.

It did, it’s having a staggered limited release - I saw it in early December at an art theater in Minneapolis. But it seems to be having an encore release going on right now to promote its Oscar nom - my local theater, a regular multiplex in a more rural area of MN, is showing it next Saturday (which I found out when I went on there to get Black Panther tix). So check Fandango, you might be able to find it playing somewhere still

...

Yeah, fuck realistic stories about people who actually need to struggle simply to survive. & depicting Muslim's as people? That could actually force me to question my insular worldview. I need films about heroes dealing with REAL problems, like how the girls they masturbate to aren't real and probably wouldn't want to fuck them even if they were!

Looks and sounds good I'll check it out thanks op, good luck with the Sup Forumsacks.

>Sup Forums would love it

No, depicting significant portions of Muslims as merely being victims of fundamentalism would force them to sympathize with them and lend credence to the idea that western countries should accept refugees. The lot of them need to be ravenous jahootis in Sup Forums's eyes.

I wish it wasn’t difficult as fuck for me to see these kinds of movies while they’re out. Usually the best I can hope for is some art house theater a couple hour’s train ride away will play it for one day only, and I have to be very vigilant about digging up exactly if where and when.

The faster you accept the Animation category is an actual joke and that the entire Oscars are just a big Hollywood circlejerk, the easier it is.

I did in January, and I think it's the best film to come out of 2017, animated or otherwise.

It's gonna sting a little when it gets shafted for Pixar at the Oscars.

Do you ever read what you’ve posted?

I just finished watching Song of the Sea with my gf
fucking gorgeous

I still felt like I was left out of context in a lot of the mythos, but very enjoyable

These guys can't do something wrong?
youtube.com/watch?v=lwQbMxDcRGE

those are not contradictory.
for example:
>islam is shit
>some islam is much, much worse
>don't let mudslimes into Europe because it's inevitable that even if some mussies dindu nuffin, a lot of shitty elements will
there

I don't think all immigration should be restricted, but heavily screened.
Also, it's very easy to depict a good side of a group when you show them suffering.
If those same characters were in peaceful contexts they would still be homophobic mysoginists, so fuck them.

I'll watch a pretty film. I don't condone islam nor islamism.

rec me more stuff, because I alrady exhausted Cartoon Saloon

It confirms that Islam is awful.

...

There's nothing about the Quran that is inherently more violent, homophobic, or misogynistic than the Bible or the Torah. When Iran had an actual progressive democracy the United States and Britain chose to overthrow it to protect their business interests, and continue, along with much of Europe, to ally themselves with the Saudis, who are the most radical fundamentalists in the region and the greatest sponsors of terror.

Western governments love Islamic fundamentalism and terror, and the idea that the religion of Islam itself is the root of it has no basis in reality. But whatever, believe whatever the neocons tell you to believe. They'll just use it to justify further intervention that will cause more war and more refugees for you to play with, but at least they'll make more money.

>There's nothing about the Quran that is inherently more violent, homophobic, or misogynistic than the Bible

>Iran had an actual progressive democracy

Chicken demands proofs

>celebrity wank protect with absolutly no attempt to be intresting other tha an empowerment LARP
Its well animated but even if it was very successful that isnt what makes industry trends.

this but unironically

>There's nothing about the Quran that is inherently more violent, homophobic, or misogynistic than the Bible or the Torah

Dunno, don't see many explosive jews these days in the west

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d'état

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammad_Mosaddegh

Don't give me any shit about Israel being a moral army, it deliberately works to disabilize the surrounding region in order to consolidate power. Not to mention a major reason for Trump recognizing the annexation of Jeruselum contrary to the vast majority of the world's protest was because of the 40 million Christian Zionists who believe that it is necessary to bring about the apocalypse.

That also still says nothing about the religions themselves. No one seems to acknowledge that predominantly Christian country's in Africa impose incredibly harsh penalties for homosexuality, and that pretty much all predominantly Christian country's did as well less than a century ago (Lawrence v Texas wasn't two decades ago).

> in the west

So it only counts when they blow up obese opioid addicted asses? What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander and if the west wants to sponsor terrorism then we have no right to act surprised when the wind blows back on us. The west has been making war in the region for more than a century and cry like babies whenever they make even the faintest blow against us.

I remember when they were showing the voting comments of the oscar votes like 90% of them were "my kids made me see these two movies so I pick this one," the other 10% were folk saying "I didn't see any because I don't have kids, I abstain"

If you like pulp comic-y alt-history steampunk sci-fi, April and the Extraordinary World was pretty good
Best watched French w subs

Just as a heads up if you don't know, Tom Moore (the director of both those movies) is making another movie set in 16th century Ireland

Little girl LARPs as a trap in Afghanistan until 9/11 happens and America brings her FREEDOM

I declare this thread liberated from the Taliban oppressors

>movie about Russian polar exploration

>never actually shown in Russia except in like 2 artfag cinemas

Long Way North had top-tier animation and visuals, but the actual movie itself was just alright outside of the last few minutes.

funny story. the taliban gained power because the CIA gave them weapons.

also, fuck capitalism.

I don't support it because it's shitty lame pretentious oscar bait. Call me when something gets nominated that's an adult cartoon that still actually manages to be fun/cool, i.e; Spawn TAS, Heavy Metal, Rock & Rule.

Saw it in our local art theater. So glad Cartoon Saloon has made these historical/mythological based movies. Secret of Kells, Song of the Sea and now Breadwinner are my favorite animations.

Parvana and her other reverse trap friend are qts too, makes you really hope one day they escape to that beach they dreamed of reaching.

>Persepolis
First half is pretty good, second half kind of meanders
>Waltz with Bashir
Completes the trinity of Middle Eastern war films along with Breadwinner and Persepolis. More male-combat oriented. Does an interesting job of weaving surrealism into a more fact-based narrative
>Tragedy of Man
Really interesting Polish religious film. Criminally underrated
>All of Bakshi
Just assuming you haven't and want more indie animation

Tragedy of Man is Hungarian.

Still trying to track down a torrent of this, looks pretty good

The US supplied weapons to Pakistani foreign and military intelligence services who in turn gave them to the Taliban and other religion-based groups. The Pakistanis specifically excluded nationalist, ethnic, and politically based groups as they felt that the religious ones were pliable to Pakistani interests and that a truly independent Afghanistan was potentially a rival at best or an ally to India at worst. Saying that the Taliban is directly the fault of the USA is a gross oversimplification, the USA is indirectly at fault.

Hush now. We don't mention that part.

>also, fuck capitalism.

Fuck Communism

>Call me when something gets nominated that's an adult cartoon that still actually manages to be fun/cool

This has the distinction of being the first rated-R animated movie to be nominated for an Oscar for Animated Feature.

The freer the market the freer the people, commie.

Yes because we live here and you're obviously a nimby cunt so why don't you go fuck yourself with your faux morality?

Not me

Been meaning to.

I don't think we are even getting it here in Australia.

It was topical a decade ago.

At least Coco was decent enough that although there are better films it is not that outragous if it does win.

Isn't there a historical Middle eastern war film coming out soon?
They reckon it has the longest animated battle scene In history

I found it was a strong kid movie. The heroin is a good rolemodel, it promotes family, tackles social issues without laying too much on it, and the adventure is cool. Though I'm massively biased as soon as sailboats appear.

The movie probably went through several rewrites, too. The fact that the dogs just disappear at one point implies that they ate them.

nope, but I might some day

>There's nothing about the Quran that is inherently more violent, homophobic, or misogynistic than the Bible or the Torah
So?
Most christians don't follow the bible properly. There are gay christians ffs. Same with jews.

But even so, I wouldn't want redneck christcucks nor orthodox kikes into my country. I don't share their shit values either. What you said merely reminds me of this, and fails to be a defense for muslims.
But even so let's not play dumb and admit that muslims are usually way more violent about it. I judge people's actual cultures and behaviours, not their books. Most don't read their books.

The fact that neocons have empowered the most shitty elements of this whole mess, doesn't moot my point: I would prefer heavy ideological screenings, but this is too shady, so I'm for general restriction to immigration, *specially* unqualified labour which only drives salaries down and empoverishes the proletariat.
Culture is strange. People are a consequence of their environment, and yet (despite one's understanding of this), it's impractical to deny everyone agency. You still should treat them for what they are.
A rabid dog is not guilty of being rabid, yet still should be put down. I regret that so many muslims are shit, and want to end the conditions that brought them to that.

My priority is the removals of neocons. Part of this happens to be disempowering the shittiest demographics of islam (eg Saudi Arabia). I hate both toxic islam and neocons. Why not agree on both?
Idgaf about the books. Just read the laws on other countries, and tell me they don't reflect a general tendency.

>explosive jew
I wish orth kikes at least killed themselves in the processe of throwing the whole Middle East out of balance.
And for anyone else reading and >inb4 "but there are lots of different muslim communities and cultures"
So? Again, I fully know there are "le good muslims", and it's a prejudice (I'm using the word completely unironically) to believe that xenophobes treat all muslims for equal.
I know enough about all the sub-branches of Islam, and when I mention all these toxic elements of course I refer to the ones that have those elements. Fuck wahabist dogs, fuck Saudi Arabia, fuck Egypt and fuck the million jihadists and jihadist sympathizers worldwide.

When I say "there are bad mussies", a usual reply is the "but there are dindu mussies too!". This is a complete failure of reading comprenhension and logic at best, and an intentional strawman at worse.
I don't want to segregate all mussies. But let's not ignore widespread phenomenons, specially among wahabists. When I mention them, it's them who I mention, and don't assume otherwise.

>Persepolis
>Waltz with Bashir
Already watched both, and recommend everyone to watch these

>Tragedy of Man
I looked it up, seems interesting. Will watch.
Btw, it's Hungarian

>Bakshi
Filmography includes:
>Fritz the cat
>Coonskin
>Wizards
>The Lord of the Rings
>Cool World
wow, this guy was all around, never knew those were all his. Haven't seen nor plan to see Coonskin, but already watched the other ones. Now I feel like exploring new creators I don't already know though, but I'm glad to know these were all masterminded by the same guy. It shows.

>historical/mythological based movies
>Breadwinner
I just fell into account that BW is folklore-heavy too. I never connected the dots because it was not Irish again.
They are really good at this, and their art really fits the whole mythological schtick. I'm glad that they'll surely keep at it because it's a winning formula too.

Gee Paris! 2 Eiffel towers?

Read the book
It was a good book

I have no desire to watch something that expects me to feel any kind of sympathy towards islamic savages. All I want to know is if there's porn.

bible says "forgive" quran says "subjugate"

>bible says "forgive"
I take it you've never actually read the Bible?

I dance to the beautifull sound of muslims being bombed!

Who invited Sup Forums?

I watched it years ago.
