So I've been thinking about Avatar the Last Airbender, since I've been rewatching the original series. I got to the episode where we see the swamp waterbenders, and it really got me thinking. Imagine the shitstorm if Korra was born as a swampdwelling waterbender Avatar instead of a normal one. Would they even find her, or would the avatar be "missing"?

yeah

>she bends fire first and is treated like a demon child
>her mom is accused of cheating with firebenders or witchcraft

The writers were too prejudiced against white southerners to make Korra a hick redneck bumpkin.

Honestly I prefer a buff brownie and you should too.

Can we all just agree that Toph is best girl?

>Would they even find her, or would the avatar be "missing"?
That's actually a pretty interesting idea OP. Good on you. It'd actually justify a lot more of Korra's behavior (but not all of it) in season 1.

I'm pretty sure Korra would have already learned to waterbend by the time she'd also start firebending, earthbending, or airbending. And the swampbenders would know about the Avatar.

She is

>burns swamplands
>is found by white lotus
easy, OP.

Good job, OP. You actually put more thought into LoK than the actual show writers.

Wait for Four Elements Trainer book 4, I'm sure it will be better than the actual show

She's an awesome character and a powerful bender with a cool gimmick, I like her but I cannot consider her "the best". There's another character I like too much.

Crazy Azula is my fetish

It seems like the universe conveniently makes the Avatar easy to find. i.e. Roku just so happens to be best friends with the Fire Lord's son. Aang just so happens to be the student of the past Avatar's friend. Korra just so happens to be related to the Northern and Southern Water Tribe leaders.

Say that Korra was raised by the Swampbenders instead and had been enlightened by Guru Huu. How much more effective would she have been operating as an Avatar with inner peace?

Yeah but she wouldnt be whoring around like she probably would, and that's just boring.

>How much more effective would she have been operating as an Avatar with inner peace?
Considering that she was found at three years old and nothing is wrong with the Fire Nation, Su had her perfect city, and Tenzin is okay with having his family live next to the powder keg that was Republic City, there is no reason why she shouldn't have been effective as she would have people like that zen swampbender teaching her with their number in the White Lotus plus Su, whoever Izumi would pair her with, and Tenzin since she would be immersed in the new airbender lifestyle for a time.
It's just a case of bad and convenient writing that they tailored the plot to be the shitty things that we ended up getting.

the swampbenders would know... but would they share their secrets? They already keep secrets like vine-bending, if they had the Avatar they might just sort of hide the concept from the kid until they are already old enough to figure it out on their own (if they ever do).

>burns swamplands
You mean the extremely moist place filled with water and inhabited by waterbenders? I don't know how easy it would be to burn it down even with some pretty OP firebending.

>azulafags

Well for one she'd know that "pants are an illusion"
So at least she'd be bottomless for the whole show, that'd be pretty great.
Imagine Korra (assume she ends up looking pretty much the same) going around in what the swamp bender is wearing in OPs photo.

It's too bad. The American South is a rich well to draw concepts from, yet most shows and movies simply refuse to use it except for the occasional mean spirited joke.

wasnt toph on that tree thing? she would find her and call the cops so she can be alone again.

This is straight up untrue. Especially in film, the American South gets a ton of circlejerk, it is the center of mythical Americana (albeit mixed in with parts of the Midwest as well).

>Rewatching this shit with my little brother.

Why doesn't this little mother fucker immediately begin starting an army? All he has to do is explain who he is and amass allies.
He could have beaten the fire lord a long ass time ago.

I want Toph dressed as a jungle water bender.

he's 12

Same reason why Azula or other Fire Nation higher ups didn't hold towns hostage and threaten to kill everyone in the town unless the Avatar gave himself up to the Fire Nation. It was not the story they wanted to tell.

What does a female swamp bender even look like?

Azula is not crazy

Because that would have been a shitty story. The series did fantastic at holding a core group of characters with many characters dropping in and out of focus on the side. Changing the story to account for an entire army of good guys requires the screentime be spread out far thinner between characters and basically guarantees that there are tons of worthless characters or tons of nobodies.

less showy than you would think.

topless and loincloth or like the image

t. zuko

This actually sounds like a pretty cool concept. It'd be interesting if she just kind of fucked around with bending as a kid (like only being able to turn her finger into a makeshift lighter, and maybe using her airbending as a way to fan herself at night) not really mastering it or understanding her role as avatar until something happens to the swamp land and after some defendin' muh swamp shit she goes off to figure shit out around the world just like aang

>Korra, why aren't you wearing pants... or a shirt?
>Pants are merely an illusion.
>O-kay.
>Besides, why would you wear something like a shirt, it soaks up all your sweat and you have to wash it and crap just to use it again!
>Wacky hijinx ensue as the crew tries to convince Korra the usefulness of clothes

dark brown or black hair, green eyes, slightly light skin.

It would also make it much more impactful when Kuvira starts destroying the swamp to harvest its spirit-energy

WHAT ARE YE DOIN’ IN MAH SWAMP!?

Imagine Tenzin and other white lotus members been task with find the avatar after 17 unsuccessful years, basically registering all descendants of the water tribe (both north and south), each day that passes increase the likelihood of a nation becoming hostile and that cannot happened again.

After looking the old record of Sokka they have a lead, they completely forgot that the Foggy Swamp is home to tribesmen that are descendants of individuals who migrated from the South Pole.

>why would you wear something like a shirt, it soaks up all your sweat
>topless sweating Korra
Hnnnnnng

A naive, unworldly swamp cutey with phenomenal bending powers and practical outdoorsmanship knowledge would have been more interesting than what we got.

Beaten down, depressed and ready to be redeem Azula is the best. Especially if the redemption is at Zuko's hands

Aw man, when you put it that way, it sounds way more interesting.

>Swamp Benders didn't even know that there was ice at the South Pole.
>White lotus only checked on claims from the Northern and Southern Tribe.

Imagine a series where it took the White Lotus forever to find the next avatar so she had to start her training much later than previous avatars. Imagine what kind of shenanigans would take place from Swamp Korra learning about other cultures for the first time.
