Make America...relatively decent again

There have been many threads about how horrible her solo title is, and many threads celebrating the title's cancellation (and Gabby's upcoming unemployment).

ITT: How do we salvage this character?

>Have her speak normally
>Build a normal rogues gallery and supporting cast
>Give her a overarching plot, as a goal to go towards and keep the story building towards

She was fine in Secret Empire, the only other place I've seen her in. She just needs a okay writer.

Replace with this

Give her to a good writer. Marvel currently has few however. That Gabby chick(?) was just abysmal.

These are good steps.

>Blonde America girl

I see this soo much, I got tired of it.

You don't even have to get rid of anything Gabby created, just use the setting and characters better.

That's some Adam Hughes-tier lack of hips and ass.

Jackie Brown is a surprisingly sweet movie. Was not expecting the sub plot with the Bail bondsman

Cheesecake her

I think a booty shorts look would work better than the high cut.

I only read the first three issues, so what did you think she actually added that should be kept?

fuck, that is such an appealing design. shame the character didn't live up to it

America (vol.1, 2017-2018) is a brave, political comic, tackling complex social issues.

Oh shit, that's from Jackie Brown? I've need that gif floating around but it's been so long since I've seen the movie that I didn't recognize it.
And yeah as far as I'm concerned Jackie Brown (which he directed but didn't write) is Tarantino's best movie along with Natural Born Killers (which he wrote but didn't direct)

Everything can be kept. There isn't anything "wrong" with what Gabby created, she's just a terrible writer; all that is really needed is a competent writer who was willing to flesh out the setting, characters, and ideas. Personally I'd try and give it to a writer whose background is 2000AD and see what a little thrill-power could do for the character.

le ebin at that edit

I liked her well enough in the ultimate. She seems like a character that is perfect for a team book but kind of thin for a solo.

Have her punch Gabby

Double down on everything from Gabby Rivera's run. Make her keep spouting stupid phrases like "Holy Menstruation". Make Hitler a regular character in her run.

...

>How do we salvage this character?
we dont, we let it die like so many others

Better villians. Slightly alterd back story (i mean... lesbian utopia, come on).
Multi verse adventures.
I read the first issue and thought it was retarded so correct me if they all ready dis this with her but something as simple as her hunting down escaped super villians across the muliverse would be pretty dope.
Oh and dont have her say dumb shit like "eat my brown fist".

Copy what Rucka did to Wonder Woman in Rebirth. Retcon everything Gabby established with a "it was all a lie" plot twist.

make her bi. undermine everything gabby did.

>You don't even have to get rid of anything Gabby created
Jesus christ yes you do.

what did rucka do?

Like I said he retconned all of Azarello's run by saying all the gods stuff was a lie.

ah, cheers.

T. 56 percent mongrel

>it's a wacky rom-com in which America and Hitler become roommates through a series of hilarious shenanigans

I Mean it is a lie. Her world is just Billy’s dumbass gay fanfiction

...

Johnny Hitler's the COOLEST Kid on Campus

I hear he hates Books and Juice

I say we make her a tragic existence standed beyond the stars.
She clearly has identity issues and I say we can just recontextualise her behavior and ideas as desperate delusions of a child with no home or identity who just makes shit up trying to fit in.
Have a figure from her past come in who explains the schizophrenic identities of her by making her an orphan found as a newborn with no heritage or story or explanation.
As she grew up in the girls' orphanage she felt distant from the others who had stories how they got there, dead parents, a home planet, a ship, anything.
So she made up stories for herself, things that could explain her to herself.
Picking up TV signaks from Earth by some happenstance, she picked up on this vague, old idea of a place where someone could go to become what they want and their past won't matter.
She felt attracted to girls so she built a cosmology around romantic ideas of that.
And when she landed on Earth, her first act was to absorb the first identity she encountered.
She never had a family and grew up in a harsh place, so she became selfish.
She had no past so she stole any she could find.
She is no arbiter of justice but a lost child trying to make sense of herself.

Being barefoot more often definitely would have made America more bearable.

Incidentally, there is no compelling reason to even try to 'salvage' this parody of Wonder Woman.

They're the ones who obsess over blondes, dummy.

Is this a Marvel strategy? Give a shitty character a shitty solo for a while and then watch as idiots pretend like said character wasn't always shit? see Carl Danvers as another example of this.

Have her adventures take place in space and alien planets. Make her a sort of Robin Hood in space.

A good writer for one

Maybe one that actually knows Spanish or at least turns their work in on time

...

I never get tired of this shitpost

This shit is getting more threads now that it's dead, than it ever did when it was actually going.

Can someone change the civilian girls to white instead of vaguely brown? Needs more lefty outrage points.

There's still one issue left. Sup Forums is prepping its butthole for the big climax.

"Again" implies she was ever anything but trash.

Well, first off you have the "real" America show up and beat the everloving fuck out of the evil clone that was warping reality.

Switch the black above the shield emblem to skin tone to make it look like a strapless top.

I’m just so tired of Sup Forums tearing into the book. It’s cancelled, let it die in obscurity and someone come write America and ignore it

This is probably the most constructive thread about this pile of crap I've seen.
Don't drag down the conversation with your bullshit.

>ITT: How do we salvage this character?
By making her stories not about being a "strong independent woman" and just about he punching stuff without shoehorning lesbians and diversity into it.

Write a normal comic book and then draw her over the stickman placeholder.

>By making her stories not about being a "strong independent woman" and just about he punching stuff without shoehorning lesbians and diversity into it.
Masterclass work there user.
A Cape comic about punching, fucking brilliant.
You should work for fucking Marvel, they need to know about these groundbreaking ideas.

You ignore her. Pretend nothing happened, and you don't touch her until after the next inevitable world reboot event, where you can start again from scratch because the old character didn't exist. New origin, no baggage, mi gente.

who pissed in your cereal today?

>Comic books stories shouldn't be informed by what's unique about the character, just make a generic adventure anyone could have and slap on whoever on top of it
user, I know you're flustered with the agenda Marvel has been pushing, I don't blame you, but c'mon son.

Blue eyes
Thick tighs
Thick hips
Ass up
Tits out

My cat.
Cheeky fuck is outta control.
But really though, the thing about America with a good writer she could have been a really cool character. The problem isn't that she was a Hispanic Dyke, it's the fact that's ALL she is. There is nothing wrong with character's holding certain views, and those views being important to the character. The problem comes when the character becomes a mouth piece for some hack writer to take shots at the world through the pages of their comic. You can do diversity right, and I feel it's important to do that, but it seems the only people who share my views are fucking incapable of getting their heads outta their asses.

She was fine in Ultimates. God I miss Ultimates. And GOTG. And Nova. And Cosmic in general...

have a powerful telepath tell her she's straight

>it's an "America tries to rape the shit out of Prodigy" episode

Yeah, problem is since then Gabby ignored that she actually had a limit to her portal use, decided to give her 15 power ups, gave her an even more convoluted backstory with new supporting people as baggage.

Anything any new writer does it going to have to deal with the hot mess left in their laps or never mention it again, which will make some autists whine.

>he's a cat person
That explains it.

Easy enough to work around or add new limitations. As for the backstory it's simple enough to add without much changing since it's basically a generically Hispanic planet, kinda like a Star Trek planet, or you could easily just weave the narrative back into Billy's actions for full existential crisis mode.

>basically a generically Hispanic planet
No. Fuck that. That's one of the worst things about Gabby's new lore. Wipe everything from the plate and start over.

HAve her say literally nothing, let her actions tell her story. For fuck sake every time she opens here mouth she talks like a fucking twitter post, her personality is just grating. At least if she only acts like an insufferable cunt she wont have the opportunity to talk like a retard and say stupid shit.

Scrap her, her shitty home dimension and replace her with some random chick in a better costume.

>all that is really needed is a competent writer
this applies to any form of writing tho. So is it really that good of advice?

She's just a Puerto Rican girl from the Bronx who got powers somehow. No need for princesses, lesbian utopias, or contrivances needed to explain why she is "latinx".
She is still hot blooded and confident, though with a healthy amount of self awareness and doubt.
And her personality type works best within an ensemble cast, so it should stay that way.

>How do we salvage this character
MAX imprint: America Goes Down on the Marvel Universe

>bush
you are like a tiny god

It isn't. Wasting a writer on her damaged brand now is good money going after bad.

>(and Gabby's upcoming unemployment)
Do we know for certain shes getting fired? Is marvel finally coming to their senses and draining the swamp of her and others like her in the company?

Make her a half Mexican, Jewish girl whose catchphrase is
>Mi Gentiles!

Why are you darkening her skin? Thats the same thing Gabby did the Sotomayor.

Throw her into limbo for a few years until everyone forgets about YA and her solo, then give her to competent future writer to take a crack at.

Captain America already represents USA world cop, spreader of freedom and democracy.

So if America is going to represent the USA it needs to represent it's more internal ideals. Give her a business which she built from rags to riches, give her a husband and kids, give her Christianity. Put some La Raza supremacist in her rogues gallery.

I meant that outside being generic their really isn't anything to it, meaning you're free to develop it as you see fit.

Considering Marvel's output recently, yes.

Thats an interseting take. It would certainly be a start.

We know that she will no longer be at Marvel.

It's likely that her contract has ended, and Marvel has not decided to renew it. This is probably a result of her significantly low sales and not anything to do with quality control. Rivera is an outsider, not a long term Marvel employee, and her sales linger below 5 digits.

Breed her with an aryan Adonis. Oh she'll resist at first, but once she gets a taste, she'll straighten right out.

Retcon it as America waking up suddenly, as if froam nightmare. She takes a second to make sure she's awake, then falls back down on her bed, breathing a sigh of relief. "Wow that was a weird ass dream."

>she's still together with Lisa
>she actually does attend Sotomayor U with Prodigy
>the Leelumultipass Betas are real, but they're more of a cult led by a really pushy and handsy bulldyke who keep butting in on America trying to be a hero
>the Chavez Guerrillas are just an ordinary fanclub
>Magdelena is total closet case who married a guy and popped out 2 kids to prove to herself she's not gay despite being very obviously not over America
>the Midas Corporation supplies and runs Sotomayor's food courts and on-campus restaurants
>the only America Chavez robot in existence were built under the table by a robot fetishist on campus as Lisa's birthday gift
>when America gets to the part where Lisa is kidnapped by preteens and put into bondage in a baby harness Lisa has the look on her face of someone whose secret, encrypted, fetish porn hard drive was discovered

My idea is to not have to retcon stuff into non-existence and explain her terrible behavior while keeping a door open to have her become a better person through some arcs.

>literally le 56% face

> America Chavez came to this dimension after fleeing her home, which is ruled by a powerful tyrant
> Is taken in by her alternate universe family which never had her because her grandmother knew she would come and need guidance due to her time travel adventures (Hint at her time traveling past, but never show it)
> She goes around her new home of LA fighting criminals who would eventually join the Tyrant in his regime.
>Realizes that it's OK to be a lesbian here, but don't make it the defining part of who she is.
> The big bad of her dimension is just a nerdy nobody here and America thinks about if she should kill him to stop the terror he MIGHT become.
> Tyrant tries to convince his alternate self to help him cross over into the 616 dimension in return for the power and respect this world never gave him.
>The Tyrant is tricked into going through a portal that would actually compress him into technology for his new suit, turning the seemingly innocent version of him into a sociopath who learned from his alternate's self's mistake and use subtlety and tactics in his plans to take over the world.

>As always, give her a varied supporting cast and a strong set of unique villains tailor-made for her powers and personality.
>Her overbearing and overconfident personality should be treated as a weakness that gets her into greater peril, not just her being quirky.
>The lesbian utopia can stay, but don't present it as a perfect society. Every society has problems. Find out what theirs is and make it a cause of strife for America.

>I’m just so tired of Sup Forums tearing into the book.

Thus the reason I ask...WHAT WOULD (YOU) DO TO SALVAGE IT?

just expand on the incase pic t b h

>hero of the week

fucking hell, talk about a slow week. Did everyone just start raping puppies at the time?

>Put some La Raza supremacist in her rogues gallery.
This.
America realises that being a Hispanic supremacist or whatever is bad. She leaves her #woke SJW clique including her girlfriend. Girlfriend snaps and wants revenge on America. Ex-Girlfriend is based on Gabby.

give her to Morrison

Well, that will have to happen if we want her to go places and change as a person.
Best show her drifting out of the group think when confronted with the complexity of social realities.
Have her attempt to save a "woman of color" from some white dude's apparent harassment just to have the dude need to keep his girlfriend from scratching America's eyes out.
Or have her get talking to a hobo on the street who lost a leg in combat, challenging ideas of what "privilege" really means when you are a super-powered space badass.
The Gabby thing about her ex seems too on the nose and petty.

That sounds pretty good, except for the Lesbotopia part. That shit is too close to Heven for my liking. If we were to do , we could use that to shoehorn in significant people from that past and defuse some of the idiocy around her like claiming Latin culture while not even from Earth.
Which could ultimately lead to her adopting a motivation somewhere between Spider-Man and Superman, recognising that her power means the responsibility to do good so she can earn herself the place and identity she wants to have. To earn her name [cue flag in background]!

Jesus no

Have you not see Xandria? Looks like black Gabby.

Yes, but designs change between books and she should look less like Gabby if she is made into a villain.
No need to go that low.

Throw the character into a wood chipper, and hope some pretty flowers grow

The idea is to turn Lesbotopia into a more well-rounded society.

Not sure how you can achieve that with the amount of wish-fulfilment going into that.
If you have primordial godesses give life to your character, maybe calling that notion delusional is the better way.
Surely one could incorporate elements of that into the place she's actually frown up, show where she got the ideas.
But I think a consequent deconstruction of her self into layers of invented identities would be the best way to make her into a relatable character.
And for that every part of her smug persona must be false and hollow, a facade to hide an insecure little girl.
That way we can have organic growth through a crisis of identity that leads to an investigation of her past and exploration of her character as a wounded human being.
Don't ask me where they get an author of the caliber to manage that with the finesse it requires on the page, though!

Crisis of identity as a means of character shifting is pretty cliche at this point, you might as well include a dramatic hair cutting scene too. Also the primordial Lesbian Goddesses was the origin for Planet Hispanic, not Lesbotopia. Planet Hispanic could be dealt with easily by treating the lesbian goddesses as backstory and mostly uninvolved. Lesbotopia can run pretty much any utopian plot/critique, has fodder for some existential stuff (they're seemingly aware that they were created wholecloth by a reality warping gay guy), and, perhaps most of all, can be completely excised from a story as once you leave it you can never return, turning it into an ideal for America to focus on.

...

> Maker her more than the color of her skin and her sexuality. That's exactly the kind of shit Rivera is against, but can't for their fucking life escape writing about. She should be a human being instead of a walking political sentiment.
> Make the Utopia Parallel a lesser part of her character. She doesn't have to talk about her moms every single time she stubs her toe. They can be symbols of strength when she's at her lowest, but if she's having a bad day she should have enough competency to figure it out herself.
> Don't have her be the most special person of all time. It's pathetic. The conceit of her character is that she's unique in the multiverse, which you can't run away from, but don't make us painfully aware of it. She shouldn't be treated different just because she can fly and punch hard, she should show what makes her more than a fad or a trendy teenager.
> Pair her up with adults who won't care for her bullshit. Kamala, Miles and Gwenpool are fine for cute crossovers, but someone has to tell her to shut the fuck up and be professional every once in a while.
