Well, generation 2 reactors sure aren't.

what am i looking at?

maybe shouldn't build them on fault lines stupid chinks

Replying to b8 because everyone knew Fukushima happened because of being outdated with sketchy safety guidelines and being literally built on a fault line

Literately all of japen is a large fault line.

>old reactor on Earthquakes: the island means nuclear is bad
Really made me think.

>it took a 9.1 magnitude earthquake and a tsunami to cause a meltdown
>WE SHOULD NEVER USE NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS EVER AGAIN BECAUSE OF THIS

fuck off i'd rather use coal

>because of being outdated with sketchy safety guidelines and being literally built on a fault line
telegraph.co.uk/business/2016/09/15/china-to-build-nuclear-reactor-in-essex-after-hinkley-deal-appro/

Why not both?

a scat porn filming set

Because nuclear power is not safe long term. I'm talking hundred of years

non nuclear renewable power + coal is the future until the figure out fusion.

Fission fags need to die now

I'll fok ur shitma OP

protip don't eat tuna

STFU sideways france

>40 year old reactor
>Hit with a tsunami
>Backup generators below sea level

Don't blame nuclear power for the japs being stupid

Fukishima failed because it was a pre-chernibyl reactor hit by Tsunami during an Eartquake.

Today they developed meltdown containment pits and all sorts of safety feature that prevent radioactive discharge even in case of any failure.

what are they measuring in cm?

Please remove yourself from existence
We are no longer allowed to burn coal and even if we covered the entire surface of our country in solar panels it would not provide the energy we need
We need nuclear energy
Our reactor has never failed

what about wind?

> nuclear fission is bad

When was the last time you heard about a French nuclear accident?

It's also the past. Fusion is the way forward, maybe.

What is wrong with Hinkley?

Safer than fossil fuels overall, and renewables... dont make me laugh.

Not only are you dumb
You're also forgetting the state west European power is in
Not only do we need to provide power to us (the Netherlands), we also need to carry the power deficit of both Belgium and england

>the japs being stupid
The tsunami literally happened a couple months before the programmed shutting off of those reactors, that's major bad luck there

>until the figure out fusion.

But how does we figure out unless try?

1 run out of uranium 235
2 run out of uranium 238 (which is abundant enough to make tanks and bullets outta it)
3 run out of thorium
4 actually start using fusion

Nuclear energy can give us all We need for ages

Nobody needs it right now.
Too expensive and complicated

There are multiple fusion test facilities either in construction or planned
One of them is even planned to actually generate more power than if costs to run

I need it. I want power. Lot's of it, pronto.

Well then, build more. Build 'em up. Papa needs nuclear energy.

yes?
did you have some point?

Power armor when?

It's a tidal wave map that dipshits like to spread around as a map of radioactive contamination.

ages yes
but not infinite
we would even eventually have to start getting our fusion fuel by mining jupiter

>mine
>jupiter
?????

nuceng.ca/refer/risk/risk.htm

It's literally the safest

Big fucking deal. Mine it up. And as for the unminable planets; cover them with solar panels and beam the energy to earth.

But then nothing is infinite and we'll reach the heat death of the universe eventually. Unless we figure a way to create new universes, reverse the flow of time, or cause a false vacuum decay.

We should put all nuclear reactors on the Moon and transfer electricity back to the Earth via powerful laser beam.

Eventually the sun runs out.

Nothing is going to last forever. But shortage of fission fuel is least of our concern a ATM, we're at higher risk of getting super-zika-ebola-flu resistant to antibiotics than shorting on energy.

It's the safest yet the Fukishima nuclear disaster has literately killed off entire species.

Also how does solar kill more? People falling off roofs, lol.

Hey when are we gonna figure out how to make our own little suns like in spider-man 2?

Fusion would last for millennia, as long as we have water and rocks

Do you have any idea what kind of materials are used in solar?
Also solar is absolutely retarded in our country
They can likely never produce the amount of energy that they cost to make on our part of the globe

What happens if we accidentally hit Yellowstone with that beam?

Btw building a death start outta the moon sound pretty metal

better ask what is wrong with anything built by chinks

But would water an rocks last for millennia? That's the real question here.

With fast fission breeder reactors we'll effectively never run out of fuel.

But how long would it take to build one of you precious wonder reactors? Is humanity even ready for such a task?

Finland is building one for actual use I believe

You believe? Fins can talk the talk. But, can they walk the walk? I guess we'll find out.

This shit already exists.
It makes a little more fuel and enegy outta waste and nothing really special.

They however actually can potentially blow up like nuclear bomb.

What can happen will happen

So, theoretically, could a country make a "deal" with another country and say "oh we're gonna build one of these fancy reactors, it's gonna be great" and then rig the facility to blow? Wouldn't really start a nuclear war since they could just say it was a huge tragedy and they never meant for that to happen. Could we do this on a really large scale with Africa?

>he doesn't know about safe, efficient breeder reactors
>he doesn't know fossil fuel industries propped up dangerous light water reactors knowing the eventual meltdown would push us back into the warm, familiar arms of carbon based fuels

Weeeeeeeeeell maybe.

How are you going to live with this reputation then?

Wind turbines take energy from the atmosphere and fuck with weather and climate in the area of the farms. No way to be sure how the issue would scale.

Did you know Fukushima hasn't killed a single person?
Fuck off, move to Germany with your hysteria.

With a really really good PR department. And, in the long run, the world would come to realize that nothing of value was lost.

They already exist, it's just that they're less common and uranium is cheap so most people would rather just make water reactors. Also muh proliferation.

>I don't understand fission or the nuclear industry: the post

kys

>trying to guess what we'll be doing in 900 years

jej

>unironically being afraid of nuclear power
literally kill yourself. you're holding the entire species back.

Yes, just get some asteroids.

It's mining in the same sense that natural gas extraction is "mining". You just siphon off the atmosphere.

That would have to be one hell of a hose and one hell of a set of lungs.

wrong

reverse image search that shit it's legit

No.

I heard that your mother is the right person for the job, god damn can she suck.

there are ancient stone monuments in the area at high water marks for tsunamis saying "dont build here"

verrrrryy dishonorrable

>mining jupiter
god amerifats are fucking dumb

Fast breeder reactors is tech from the 60s...

>lets us use U-238 (more than 100 times more prevalent than U-235) as fuel
>significantly reduced waste
>significantly reduced half-life of waste
>nothing really special

>But then nothing is infinite

non-falsifiable

did anyone ever find out what happened to 'point at the camera in a hazmat suit for a long time' guy?

did he died?

>fukushima wasn't too bad don't fear the (((nuclear power)))
the fucking cooling pool evaporated and its on video, get some fucking eyes and learn what a cover up is.

>millenia

dont count on it at all
a very great much is lost through neutrinos
and once we have that kind of power, we will have ready uses that will consume it much faster and on grander scales than you can imagine

for instance:
a circumferential/equatorial particle accelerator
and
anti matter generation

>run out of thorium

kek

short of the second coming or christ or extinction of humanity by whatever end,
physics is unlikely to change
and energy requirements for every projected advance in technology increase exponentially at least, and logrithmically at worst

jesus christ how fucking retarded are you

you know gas collection for commercial/industrial uses counts as "mining" as well, that word doesnt just refer to collection of solid material

FUCKING IMBECILE
have i just been baited?

oh?
and how would earth's supply be replenished?

cant we keep this thread going folks?

>I didn't even read the Wikipedia article much less understand nuclear power harvest techniques: the post

Bataclan 2015

>Because nuclear power is not safe long term.

jesus.

fucking imbecile of the highest order

sure youre not a product of the american pubic edumaction system?

>It's a not-so-subtle 'global warming is bullshit thread'

Fission is fine. We've had two or three examples of 'worst case scenario'. And shit was fine.

why retards flock to this thread?

>shit was fine
we haven't experienced a worst case scenario before, even chrynobyl blew its top before full meltdown, full meltdown + water could wipe out a country.

>but shits fine yo
this whirled...

see:

Think Bespin from Empire Strikes Back.

>Beam the enrgy to earth
I keep hearing this meme, I still can't figure out what the fuck s going on those minds.

we will be on different planets by the time we ever ran out.

That's because nuclear fusion is the future.

....

what is wrong with you people?
you think we cant create and maintain a viable beam of energy with enough cohesion to do that?

enormous collectors, very thin, of many square miles, in orbit, would easily render such a scenario feasible

or better yet, collectors on the moon

Name one species that died from Fukushima.

Good luck with the alignment the beam and the receptor.

Fusion is the shit bro

not gonna happen in our lifetime. they can't control the reaction profitably. the reactors cost billions to make, they require an insane amount of energy to power all the magnets and ontop of that it doesn't even produce enough energy to pay for itself.

fission is the only way to sustain a modern power-hungry civilization. all other forms of energy are not viable (except coal etc. but that shit runs out eventually and has severe negative environmental consequences)
