Is this how things should have gone?

Is this how things should have gone?

It's weird that someone trained to fight people with guns didn't immediately react to the gun
Like, it makes sense that she got shot, but at the same time, unless she was looking down while opening the door, she should have been able to react to the gun
I forget what the page before this looks like, but that might have been the case

>joker becomes oracle
>hyenas of prey series
>its super gay
WTF I want to live on Earth Soy now!

Honestly? Yeah.

No, because it doesn't make sense in terms of narrative.

contrary to popular belief, people cannot move faster than a bullet, so no

>She hits Joker so hard he loses his pants and his shirt opens up

Ah, the Snu-Strike of the ancient Amazonians, Batman as taught her well.

And then Gordon rapes him and photographs it right?

Things 'should' go how the writer wants them to. Its not more realistic for her to lunge past two guards, for the Joker to not pull the trigger for some reason, and for her to get the knock out.

No more realistic than it would be for her to have just long enough to recognize the gun before the Joker puts a bullet in her - which is what happened. A middle-ground would be a fine option too, where she lunges but gets shot anyway because bullets are a lot faster than ninja-bat people.

No because it would have been an abrupt ending to the story and not worth publishing.

Yes, but unfortunately, Alan Moore has been proven to be quite mysoginistic. Women on his stories exist solely to be either beaten or raped.

These are the most important answers.
As Spielberg said
>The script says Jack dies, he has to die. Maybe we screwed up. The board should have been a tiny bit smaller. But the dude’s going down.
The story is Babs gets shot.

Is OP a tumblrina?

How so?

Are we assuming the Joker let babs look at him for a second before shooting instead or shoting right as she open the door?

It looks like he did the former in the top three panels.

Hell no. Despite the needless shock value, it gave us Oracle, the best thing to happen to Barbra's character. Shame DC did away with all of that

People like to forget, she had been retired for a few years at the time. Also, only ever had a frigging Brown belt in karate, going for her.

You know the story could've been written without the "Women in Refrigerators" trope, right? The way it was written was distasteful and made little sense within the internal logic of the Batman comics.

Fuck off tumblr

They should of keep her in the chair.

Should've shot her through the door

Now. Hear me out before you judge but I am not sure that Oracle is entirely consistent with the themes of The Killing Joke.

In the story the Joker is trying to break Batman and break Gordon and trying to get heroes to break down and be as crazy as he is. In the end Gordon is not defeated, he does not go "crazy." And in the end Batman may or may not have thrown Joker in front of a car in a fit of rage. But IMO I am not sure that Barbara conquering the one bad day that Joker gave her and becoming the hero Oracle would have really been the best choice.

Imagine being so butthurt by a story that you go out of your way to redraw it to soothe your aching anus hole.

She didn't die so it's not "women in refrigerators", and if you want to go for the SJW angle: Oracle became a really great character for paraplegics.

Oracle was just a happy accident, DC going "well fuck, now what do we do with Babs?" which is the same thing that led her to getting shot in the first place. Babs isnt even the best Batgirl, just the most well known. Her stories are extremely limited, and Oracle did wonders for her character. She was arguably the best "strong female character" given that she overcame a disability, and still found a way to be a hero without putting on a mask

The Killing Joke is not the end-all-be-all of Batman comics, you 14 year old casual retard. Becoming a hero in the face of violent adversity is the very basis of Batman you dipshit.

Honestly? No.

she also actively refused magic or super-science cures. whenever it came up she always made it clear she wouldnt use any cheats until such an option was viable for everyone

Which is funny considering Marvel tried to do the same thing with Jane Thor, but completely undermined that shit thanks to Mjolnir undoing her cancer treatment

You're wrong about literally everything, but it's okay for you to have a wrong opinion.

No, she should had stayed on a wheelchair, that was her brighter moment.

The panels there are for dramatic effect, he didn't actually wait several seconds to pull the trigger, pretty much as soon as he saw her he pulled the trigger.

>analysing a story critically is "sjw"
Sup Forums pls

Also, a woman didn't need to die to count as a women in refrigerators. A woman being hurt, crippled or depowered as a plot device also counts.

>Oracle
>bulwark of the global hero community that realistically AIDS in defusing tjreats
>Batgirl
>mediocre street hero that bumbles her way through doing nothing

If Booster Gold couldn't do it, no one can

Since it derives from a dead woman literally being put in a fridge, you can fuck off with your retarded expanded definitions.
>Women being treated poorly in fiction is sexist
When will this meme die

I figured she was too shocked to react because of Joker's outfit.
Like seriously, wouldn't you just stop and stare for a good few seconds if you saw the Clown prince of crime in a fucking Hawaiian shirt and fedora? That's such an odd combination, it would confuse you leaving you open to get shot.

>woman being the only one competent and strong enough to take on Mogul
>hurr misogyny
I don't know, user

But she's not strong enough? Superman gets free and intervenes right as Mongul is about to strike the killing blow.

Moore has some women issues but most comic book writers have, especially on the cape medium. And unlike most of them, Moore can actually write female characters. It's not really fair to reduce Moore to an average misoginist

>no, you see, we need women to be protected at all times from any danger and to be the perfect virgin angels that we know them to be
Is there anything more sexist and regressive than feminists?

None of them is, that's kind of the point. They all would have been killed without her stalling Mogul.

But it is totally fair to label Moore as a rape fetishist.

Name one Alan Moore story that doesn't feature a female character being raped or coerced into sex against her will. I've looked and I can't find any.

That isn't misogyny that is just factual power levels.
I admit Hela is more powerful then Thor does that make me a misandrist?

For the Man Who Has Everything

Am I the only one who remembers when Batman and friends were less "super ninjas who could dodge bullets" and more "in really good shape detectives'?

Tom Strong
Supreme

Top 10

Probably.
Barbra should have never hesitated. Isn't this bitch a martial artist or something. I know she's not like batman but shit...

How was life like in the 40's?

I don't think people realise Barbara had given up being Batgirl, had been out of practice and the joker pulled the trigger almost immediately, she's not faster than a bullet

Can I get a tl;dr about what's so great about Oracle? Seems to be just the computer nerd who feeds intel.

>Spielberg
Cameron btfo

Putting aside the fact that Oracle was came around years after TKJ and wasn't a part of the plan, I think you just pointed out exactly why it's consistent.
Oracle, like Bruce and Jim, is proof positive that the "One bad day makes you into an asshole" philosophy doesn't fly. Joker broke, but no one else does.

And frankly it's something Babs needed. She's always the odd one out. She didn't t have dead parents, or an abusive or neglected childhood like every other member of the Bat family has. She was just this random suburbanite co-ed that decides to put on a halloween costume one day and is immediately as good as everyone else. Burnside Babs is one progression of that path; to double down on it and make her kind of an insufferable hipster, but the path that's more congruent with the other Bat characters is one where she has to suffer and be improved by a tragedy.

But there's a whole story line about a pedophilic not!justice league sex ring that rapes their sidekicks

But can they move faster than someone pulling a trigger?

>She's out of shape
>Haven't trained for years
>Joker shoots her the moment she opens the door and sees the gun
Probably not.

doesn't Batman also freeze up when he has a gun pulled on him later?

If the person holding the gun is standing ready and is there specifically to shoot you? No.

>People like to forget, she had been retired for a few years at the time. Also, only ever had a frigging Brown belt in karate, going for her.

Brown belt is still pretty advanced. If she were like Orange belt or Green and took years off not practicing then yeah I could believe she'd get caught unawares.

>Brown belt is still pretty advanced.
Fucking no.

That's not the best example. Tom Strong was a better example of a technicality since only Tom Strong was raped.

>DC going "well fuck, now what do we do with Babs?"
But TKJ wasn't intended to be canon. Or was it?

Sorry PreCrisis wonder Woman was a lot weaker than Pre Crisis Superman, one of the strongest fictional character of all time.
>reminder precrisis WW is a literal fetish character

Miracleman

The killing joke was always intended to be in continuity and batman did not kill the joker, they had another writer make a miniseries to connect the end of her last run to the killing joke to put the character where Moore wanted her.
Out of context it can be seen as a completely separate story and the archetypal "Batman Vs Joker" as it's very cyclical in nature, with the "final" telling of that story being the jokers death at the hands of batman, but that's just something Moore did as he's got talent, but the actual events is batman just putting him back in Arkham after having a laugh with the Joker.

>brown belt in karate
>pretty advanced
Unless you are well into dans, karate can only fare well in sparings with other karatekas

Didn't he do a porn comic?

It was, they just didn't have any plans for Barbara after the story

This. If it can happen to Batman, it can happen to her.

Even if a brown belt were advanced (it isn't) why would the Joker showing up at her door not spook her for the amount of time it requires him to pull the trigger?

>not using the anti bullet Bat-spray to make the bullets turn around and go back into the gun.

The realistic thing is she checks the peep hole, screams for her dad to take cover, the door gets kicked in and then the commissioner gets shot because he is old and slow. Then she's the one who gets to take a ride with the Joker.

>checks the peep hole
user, American doors have no peep holes.

She was expecting her friend to arrive any minute so she opened the door, please don't tell me you're too paranoid that when a friend says they're pretty much outside you have to check the peep hole, and even so Barbara was out of shape and not Batgirl anymore

>Opens the door without giving it much thought because who could it be?
>It's motherfucking clown prince of crime
>Gets shot
Why is it so hard to accept?

Wrong

People read too many comics

>>Opens the door without giving it much thought because who could it be?

In Gotham?

Then why no one uses them in movies or TV?

Now that I checked, there indeed is a peephole but Barb doesn't peek in it because she assumes it's her friend from yoga class and she's distracted by her father. Now I don't think Joker would shoot Jim even in your example because the plan was to cripple Barb and take the pics to drive Jim insane.

What who is paranoid enough to check the peephole before opening the door? It's not like they live in Gotham or anything.

Wildcats

So all the best ones.

For the sake of the plot.

>Top 10

I don't think you understood what happened in Top 10.

OP, here is your answer.

If Bruce were staying in a penthouse, and this exact sequence happened to him, comic nerds would be roughly as upset as the Kevin Smith pants-pissing incident.

What kind of stupid ass mental gymnastics is that? It's completely valid to critizice the fact that women, for most part of comics history, were used just as plot devices to give the main (male) character something to do.

She was caught completely by surprise/flatfooted. Plus the Joker immediately fired the gun. Finally, she was at her doors entryway and had no room to maneuver.

She didn't have time to react.

I didn't read Supreme or Wildcats, but all other examples still feature meaningless violence against women

After hearing your friends are going to come any minute now?

How is a retired Batgirl being caught off guard in her humble abode at all similar to an active Batman having the Joker show up at his fucking penthouse?

This.

Surprise can and is a hell of an advantage. Also, being effectively retired at that point would have dulled her reflexes.

That happened in Return of the Joker and nobody lost their shit.

>women's studies freshman
Bet you just hate being called a freshMAN too.

well duh, because thad actually be out of character. Unlike this.

No, it ruins the whole story element of the Joker taking her by surprise for a really weak "YAS Girl Power" moment.

Barbara was surprised and had no time to react. At that point, she hadn't really faced anything from the superhero world interacting with her in civilian life.

Her becoming Oracle and being a massive help to the Batfamily and superhero community at large, proved that the Joker's "One Bad Day" could be overcome.

It was a jolly old time sport.

I'm one of the people you quoted.
Tell me how it was the women in refrigerators trope to set up story arcs that gave Batgirl the best development she's ever had, turned her into the kickass Oracle, and took her from a character that no one cared much about to a complete badass? You know what that story did? It gave us a Batgirl that is so tough, so mentally and spiritually formidable, that it takes more than a bullet in the god damn spine and partial paralysis to stop her from fulfilling what she sees as her duty as Batgirl.

But hey, no, you're totally right. She should have just karate punched him or whatever. Cool.
