What I meant was since the collapse of the Soviet Union, East Euro countries have done all they can to pull themselves out of the brink. They have a long way to go and they're only taking small, safe steps rather than giant leaps. But they've definantly made progress, for example Czech Republic has very high living standards and Poland has the second-largest economy in East Europe.
