The Breadwinner

What did Sup Forums think about this? I was surprised that an animated movie of all things was willing to basically show how fucked up Middle eastern countries and Muslim culture is.

It was good. It lived up to the high expectations I’ve come to have for Cartoon Saloon.

It strikes me as the kind of thing that’d be perfect for showing to a kid to have them understand simultaneously why people are prejudiced against muslims and also why it’s not fair to be prejudiced and latch onto generalizations.

>TFW Feminists will never practice what they preach and save the literal millions of women who are treated like slaves that live in the Middle East.

I made a thread about this before and none of you faggots cared.about it.

It was pretty good, I think. Song of the Sea was better though.

Pretty good happy they didn't go to far with it and I read the book it could have went way more graphic/sad.

I liked it but I couldn't shake the idea that the story ended where it did because something horrible happened to everyone only moments later.

>Muslim culture
Taliban culture more like. Parvana and her family were against all the societal restrictions but I'm pretty sure they were still Muslim.

This movie was great for me considering how much I love reverse traps. Would Parvana x Shauzia be /ll/ or shotacon?

Read the book. Does the movie follow it closely?

It's very definitely Muslim culture user. You can be European and not be for European cultural norms.

But user, don't you know that Islam is a religion of peace and that Islamic women are the real feminists?

I’m having a hard time explaining this to a friend of mine I watched it with.

Sorry, I hadn’t seen it yet and didn’t realize it was on Netflix.

Man, Nurullah was a dick. I hope he got freedom'd.

How? Military intervention? Cause that works?

Don't be mad at us, we're the same five people who always post in Breadwinner threads. Other anons just don't care, don't be a crybaby three posts in.

They did change it quite a bit didn't they? The third act is basically made new for the film. I like the movie ending a little more because it's more poetic, as opposed to more realistically ending en media res. With that said, I still found the movie pretty disturbing throughout, and the ending can be interpreted as the characters all being fucked.

Didn't see it. Is it awesome enough for my time?

Pre-Taliban Afghanistan was pretty liberal with societal views. Sharia-practicing Shiite Muslim groups are basically a completely different religion from Sunni Muslims.

Nice whataboutism, Sup Forums.

No, it was made by fucking micks.

I think that's one of the points the film raises, but most people overlook it

>I was surprised that an animated movie of all things was willing to basically show how fucked up Middle eastern countries and Muslim culture is.
>Muslim Culture

This is where you should have stopped. i would have agreed and had a full essay on why this movie pushed a new standard, but you had to be a fag.

If you consider "Muslim culture" To be Taliban attacks, Al Qaeda incidents, and Isis terrorism actual culture, fucking kill yourself

But the movie wasn't about that. Did you even watch it? It was literally about how in some real middle eastern countries women aren't allowed to be outside by themselves.

#NOT ALL MUD PEOPLE
Just 99.999%

How the fuck would I know? The people here are absolutely retarded, they have no morals, no manners, and simply no knowledge on anything. You simply judge media based on how they look, not based on anything about them other than their plot description or how the posters look. This place is just as bad as anything on the internet such as child porn sites etc. This place supports spoonfeeding and is degrading to anons who care about animation. "Is this worth my time?", or "What do I think of this?", here's an idea, why don't YOU GO WATCH THE THING, and MAKE YOUR OWN FUKING OPINION! The thought about animation being powerful/artsy in soceity threatens all of you. If I see something that looks interesting, I watch it, clearly that means that anything good I say about it is unvalid to if you'll give it a chance. Or even better, If there is a tripcode under my name then clearly I have no rights.

The fact of the matter is, you guys need to learn what taste is. The things said on here are absolutely retarded. A cartoon of a magical girl being cucked over and over by a mexican, gets cheered and supported. If someone posts a thread regardig a fully-painted Van Gogh animated film, everyone calls it pretentious and says it's its fault for flopping. Are you ****ing kidding me? Taste is dead. Every guy here has a favorite cartoon, would you want another person asking if they should even watch it if they think it looks too boring? I get PM's sent to me harrassing me to show them "sauce" of my favorite cartoons. Absolutely disgusting.

Read the Quran

cont.

The guys on here are some of the most retarded, self-centered people I have ever met on the internet. You have no goals in life, don't want to talk about anything other than "cartoons for children" and use them for porn. Oh! and how can i forget, the aspect of how good the animation's waifus are. Clearly thats why we are all here, clearly that is the meaning to all of this, the meaning for all the stars and galaxies in the universe, it all comes down to the size of your penis. Seriously, grow a brain, or at least take the one you have in your ass and attach it to your head. I actually came here with an open-mind, wanting to talk about quality animation, until I saw this place was filled with braindead people, pathetic is all I have to say about it. PATHETIC. I'm done posting in this board, I only came here for quality and obscure animation discussion, but clearly the anons here are too threatned when they see an intelligent piece of media. Have a nice life losers.

Only in the middle/upper class districts of Kabul. Folks in the countryside (a large majority of the population) were still living the same almost medieval way they had for centuries. The disconnect is partly what led to the Taliban taking power.

A thread like this will naturally attract anyone who loves this enough to speak about it, or speak for it. If it doesn't, that's still useful information in and of itself.

More shows exist than I can watch in my lifetime. It's natural for me to use SOME sort of filtering. I use the passion or lack thereof of user.

Yeah, yeah. Take your critique over to /qa/ or /trash/ instead of shitting up a Breadwinner thread, geez.

Loving Vincent sucked bro

it's a pasta

Read the Bible

Did you read my comment? i was insulting OP for bringing up an irrelevant religion for a more Historical and social film. Please reread my comment.

I have. an Untranslated Quran straight from Tehran. now before you pull up that (((((religionofpeacedotcom))))) bullshit, an original Quran is much different from a translated one.

cute
That's really interesting. I could see parallels with what the dad in The Breadwinner explained Kabul used to be like, and the early Shah regime parts of Persepolis.

My post was just a dumb joke, but this is actually a really good outlook to have. Thanks user.

>many feminists are supportive of taking in refugees from war torn countries
>meanwhile Sup Forumsfags complain about white genocide

Islam is enemy to cartoons since their God ( actually ours to) hates cartoons more than fucking mass baby rape.

Saw it in theater, it definitely offered a more visual way to see how badly things could get when women can't walk the streets without a male relative and suddenly they have none present.

Parvana and Shauzia were qts, I loved every scene with them together.

Plot wise the way they got back to the B plot with the evil elephant king was a bit forced. But the A plot made up for it. Bought it for Blu-ray, while I loved it I'd rank the Cartoon Saloon movies as this.

Song of the Sea > Secret of Kells > Breadwinner

/ll/ reverse traps are girls dressed as boys.

That kid that sent Parvana's dad to prison? Yeah, glad she busted his face with a rock and he got sent to die to superior American firepower .

He looked completely shaken after his gun went off. He was a douchebag that came very close to destroying Parvana’s whole family, but still, I think the movie ultimately tried to make him out to be a misguided teen who was still properly horrified at the prospect he may have just shot a young girl.

Yeah and then his fellow Taliban offered no sympathy. The older man next to him like shoves him aside when their shoulders touch.

>ours to

>2018
>not worshiping feet

I hope Parvana and Shauzia ended up finding each other someday in France and go to a nude beach together to celebrate their freedom.

>when their shoulders touch

You mean, when he lets the gun point straight in his face. I’d shove my comrade too if his incompetence with his firearm looked like it was gonna endanger my life.

Ah I remembered it wrong, yeah even I'd get pretty pissed if an asshole had their gun resting right at my face.

I want their dream of selling glasses on the beach of some Western tourist trap to be a reality.

>It was pretty good, I think. Song of the Sea was better though

I agree, but there 3 movies are kinda differend flavors so it's hard to compare
Secret of Kells is this fairytale story mostly focusing on gorgeous visuals
The Breadwinner was like a period piece about early 2000's Afghanistan + Pan's Labyrinth
Song of the Sea was like a mixture of both and was a more balanced (and less fucking depressing) movie, but the other 2 are still great

At the end of the day men are the problem. Must be nice to be able to blame women for that fact.

Stop that right now

I'd rank The Secret of Kells>The Breadwinner>Song of the Sea, but honestly it's only by hair lengths since they each are just as good but in different ways. Cartoon Saloon is pretty much Irish Laika at this point. Should have won the Oscar although Coco was really good so I ain't too mad

>Breadwinner r34
Allah be praised.

If you do it right yes.

You win for now, until my next commission of those two gets finished!

I think the story was good. Not many stories about how fucking shit it is to be a girl in the middle east. Also, I think the main character is very cute dressed as a boy. Would unironically fuck her if she was a shota.

But I don't think the animation is that great. There isn't very many facial epressions and many people walk very stiff.

yeah they're probably my favorite studio doing 2D animation. What they lack in production values, they make up for in style and charming storytelling. Cannot wait for their next one, Wolfwalkers.
(Though this new movie was really fucking sad. I was tearing up like every couple minutes, but I'm a huge pussy and have a soft spot for these kinda stories)

Wonder if Wolfwalker will bother to cover the political oppression protestants like the blonde girl's father had over the native Irish. They basically monopolized all positions of authority once the UK took over.

Explain.

The problem isn't Quran. It's pure poetry. It's hadiths and sunnis, most Muslim retardation is post Quran. Shia muslims are usually alright.

>implying i would waste my time shitskin leftist garbage
You have to go back

Same here.

>MFW "I am a good son, he is not a good father."

...

...

...

I mean, the movie's being made by Irishmen. If anyone would know about the crimes of the Eternal Anglo it's them. From the looks of it it's going to be about the English girl abandoning her restrictive Puritan lifestyle and getting down and dirty with the natives.

Sunnis make Sup Forums look sane, i listen to their radio station for laughs, it's as bad as MEMRI.

>blonde puritan corrupted by potato savages

This appeals to me, can't wait!

I bet you do

Isn't this a law maker from Egypt where women genitals are mutilated and over 90% of the women/girls have experienced sexual harassment?

so does anyone else think Shauzia might've just been trans or something, or am I completely misjudging the situation?

Meh hard to say, I mean she was forced into the situation and you have to consider the facts that this is the only experience of freedom she had when she has an abusive family back home. Of course she'd prefer to be free as a boy compared to Parvana who had a loving family back at home.

>most "refugees" are young males

Source?

No she is not trans retard

Islam is literally why those places are the way they are dumb shit.

hm, i can't find that source and i guess nobody should have opinions anymore am i right people?

and sunnis are a problem? the most blessed muslims i know are sunnis you take that back.

The irony is that Afghanistan was much more peaceful and prosperous as a monarchy than as a republic. After the king was ousted it was only a few years before the new government was overthrown by communists. Which resulted in the commies immediately begging for Soviet assistance once they realized they couldn't hold on to power on their own, which resulted in the Russians fucking things up for 10 years, which resulted in the US giving money and guns to far right militias in the country, which resulted in the Taliban controlling Kabul, which resulted in the situation you see in the film.

Yup, I liked that they showed that there were danger zones for potential minefields that hadn't been swept yet and abandoned Soviet tanks.

>islam is literally why those places are the way they are

HM, So lets see, who could we blame here? Dictators that use religion as a crutch to take power? USA bombing children every half year for more money? Funding of terrorist organiztions to be the main gov't? or a religion that was recognized by the most wretched to be peaceful and great for 2000+ years.

That has nothing to do with how women are treated in these communities

>Literally using the Islam is a religion of peace meme
Kek.
Also those terrorists exist because of Islam.

I thought it was great.

>There are people in this thread right now trying to defend the so-called Religion of Peace
Jesus Christ this place really is infested with Tumblr

>At the end of the day men are the problem

Mothers, village ladies and other older relatives are often the first to throw stones

>99% of Muslims are anti gay
>Most don't believe men and women should be treated equal
>Literal stoning to death based on the teaching of islam
A good Muslim is a bad person.

>If you consider "Muslim culture" To be Taliban attacks, Al Qaeda incidents, and Isis terrorism actual culture, fucking kill yourself

...

The ones who went to Europe are mostly men, though you could argue that they will "bring their families over" or something, I don't think that many of them have families to begin with and just want to live somewhere with a higher quality of life, with no regard to the people who live there. I think the ones who go to America are more likely to be more evenly split between genders, since the US has the luxury of not being so close to where refugees are coming from.

Besides feminists still drop the ball constantly when it comes to refugees/immigrants coming to Europe and treating women like shit (both their own and native populations) and practicing FGM, and it's clearly because it goes against the liberal agenda and would make them look racist to attack poor Muslims so would prefer to continue chasing the ghosts of Western patriarchy.

Here's something that supports the "male refugees in Europe" claim.
pewglobal.org/2016/08/02/4-asylum-seeker-demography-young-and-male/

Culture is the problem, shit-for-brains. If the 50% of the women were being unambiguously oppressed by the 50% of men out there and they were legitimately able to be oppressed, then, well, that proves your gender superiority right there. Of course that's a satirical proposition, in reality all cultures survive only because there is a net 95% consensus on all parties involved. In most, if not all cases, that consensus is to be far less than what they know they should be, but hey, there-in lies the march of progress. Gotta get that macro organism a-moving one step at a time.

>Has literally never met a Muslim before
Pro-tip, Islam isn't a race, it's an ideology and a religion and it is a fucking horrible one.

Islam is not just a simple religion that just workship a God. It acts like a society with rules that dictates how you must live or suffer a horrible punishment. While religions back then acted that way too today most religions are just workship this god and do what it's best for your people. Islam don't have many denominations and the different denominations they do have are every similar, with only a few minor changes, that it's easy to combine them all into one group.

A stone age religion that should had died.

How the fuck does a dentist get "fired"? Did he lose his license? Literally hire someone to clean up your basement and hire some old lady to work the cash register, bam now you're back in fucking business.

Ah yes, the Gateway Pundit- always a constant font of truth and unbiased reporting.

>girl forced to pretend to be a boy due to life circumstances
>DURR IS SHE LE EPIC TRANS MEME?!

You need to be fucking killed.

Right next to Christianity, yes.

Tradeua was giving a priority to women, but everybody screamed sexism back then.

Stop pretending you give a shit about Europe. Your using tragedies and small coincidences to justify your racism based on stereotypes of a boogeyman there really isn't is.

You have to double whammy of both not having any knowledge about what you are talking about, and being totally unable to express even that- through text at least. Do you literally just not know the word "worship" or are you just using the worst fucking possible translator ever?

You can't be racist against a religion. There is literally nothing wrong with hating barbaric, sexist and violent ideology.
