How is the word bigotry/bigot conceived by everyday normal Americans nowadays?
For example in germany the favourite thing leftists and the media liked to call everyone who was just a little to the right of the political Center was "racist" and "Nazi".
Those words really had an effect on people because it was a stigma to be conceived as a nazi or racist.
Then, the migrant crisis happened along with Merkels 'unfortunate' policies. And the words were thrown around around like machine gun salvos. Everyone not in line was a "FUCKING Nazi" "literal hitler" "problematic racist".
But because of their overuse people really got fed up, indifferent and the words lost their meaning.
The words really held power for years but don't anymore because the wore them out. Nobody takes anyone serious anymore who uses these words. People now are like: "yeah, yeah, what ever." when they would have gone long ways to proof they were not racist just some time ago.
I feel like bigot/bigotry might have undergone the same development, because it is thrown around so much?

Most of us are tired of its misuse. Outside major metropolitan areas, universities and government jobs, it has become pretty meaningless; unless it is legitimate racism. Using the word nigger or like at any job or school will get you in trouble. But the you're racist because you're republican isn't a thing anywhere except for the west coast and parts of New England.
