Automation is going to take more jobs than mexicans. You guys are blind

More than half of the US states have "Truck Driver" as their most common job. The trucking industry employs 10 million people in the US by itself.

However, it's on its way to being automated.

Many companies are heavily investing in autonomous vehicles. Google. Uber. Apple. Tesla. Samsung. Baidu. Audi. BMW. Honda. Hyundai. Nissan. Renault. Toyota. Intel. Nvidia. Even freaking George Hotz is on it and managed to make his own self-driving car. Most of these have already reached technology readiness levels 5~7.

Self-driving cars are around the corner, and they'll be commercially available by 2020. Once they're there, there won't be a reason to still hire regular drivers. After all, why have them when you can have a machine that woks 24/7 without sleep, doesn't require a wage, health insurance, paid leaves or holidays, automagically chooses the best routes and improves itself while also being cheaper to run as time goes on?

Trump has realized the issue with jobs being taken away, but has wrongly assigned the blame on mexicans instead of machines. We're not that far away from creating a general purpose robo-mexican either - and when we do, all jobs that can be done by mexicans will now be done by them. This might seem like a good thing, but unlike mexicans, these robots don't stimulate the economy by paying for housing, food, bribes or whatever. Worst of all, you'll be able to use robo-mexicans to repair other robo-mexicans, so even repairs won't stimulate the economy.

The displaced jobs will cause severe unemployment, and ultimately break the economy like never before because people won't be able to afford stuff because they can't find jobs anymore. The government is too retarded to realize the scale of what's about to happen in the next years.

I have been studying up on this recently and agree that this is huge. That said I looked at BLS and they pegged transportation jobs at 4%, about 6 million jobs. Are my numbers correct?

Yeah... here's the thing about that shit. That map? Entirely fucking wrong. Each state you work in, you have to report your income. A single trucker driver is getting double/triple/quadruple counted in states.

Most common job in Illinois is landscaper. Most common job in Indiana is boilermaker.

We're not blind, we're the ones pushing the mexicans out and on the frontier of automation.

I work in AI, half the current population can be replaced.
Not just low-tier jobs though, doctors, lawyers and many IT jobs will vanish. Unemployment during the great depression was 25%, this will be way worse.

Millions of young people will not integrate into the workforce and the student debt bubble will finally implode.
Corporate America will never stop looking for profits and their shills in the government will never allow a universal income system.

Truck drivers aren't considered to be working in states they pass through or drop off stuff at.

AFAIK that figure only includes drivers without including support staff such as loaders or mechanics. In any case, it's still large enough to compare to the current unemployment rates.

It's either going to be basic income or civil war. I don't know what else we can do in a post scarcity economy

>Automation is going to take more jobs than mexicans. You guys are blind.
I never cared for jobs i just want the wall and mass deportations

Go to the site and check it out, I wouldn't be surprised if you are right, but all research begins bls.gov

you know what really "took" jobs more than anything else, and is rarely mentioned?

allowing women to work.

now instead of just men working, you have everyone wanting a job, and the pool of jobs remains the same - if not less now thanks to automation and computers.

This is where the Universal Basic Wage will come in. Automation is going to pay for the people they displace. Maybe $1500 a month, speculating.

Allowing them to work plus letting them vote started the decline of western civilization.

Liberalism is a disease that destroys civilizations.

>post scarcity society

This is the problem with UBI. Let's say we put the whole population on that. Then they are going to wonder why they are permanent serfs with no way to move up while the super rich are forever rich. Civil war incoming.

>not getting a STEM degree and blue collar experience over summers

>implying companies will give their stuff to poor people for free

I think a good amount of people will be content with not having to steal for food

Republicans will thankfully push a bill forward making automated vehicles without a driver illegal
Which will win them tens of millions of votes

>Software developer.
Why is Utah so fucking based?

That will only last so long and you know it. Once people attain the most basic parts of survival they will look st their lot and be pissed.

If no one has a source of income, no one will buy their products. Whats your solution to mass automation?

>automated trucks
when will this meme die?

Won't happen. If it does it only will last a few years until the tech is so good it's unnecessary and inefficient.

It's not a meme, Mercedes already has one, will be released in 2020

>People falling for the UBI jew.
Kek you people are retarded. The goverment will just create new jobs through increasing the bureaucracy and will pay people to study even more.Don't you realise that they are alredy doing that? In 3 generations haing a PhD would be the equivalent of having a degree nowadays

We are just moving to a stratified world
>smart, global elite
>
>
>
>trump voters

also, who is going to unload the trucks. Are you imagining C3PO-like robots are just waiting in the wing? I hate "techies" who are up their own ass about human capabilities. We are fucking 2 chromosomes away from being literal monkies. Fuck off with you Utopian fantasies.

Automation is a good thing, though. It means less immigrants, more internal development, and it helps offset the birth rate crisis. The US economy will boom and take back the productivity we donated to China and other 3rd world countries. When the US employment laws also relaxes and allows the common American to be more affordable, then we'll be the Superpower that the world fears the most

Basic income is the logical step to this, as well.

Fucking over the rest of the world

Here I am, lamenting all of the farm hands who lost their jobs to tractors.

>will be released in 2020
Why not now?

>self driving trailers
The minute those monsters kill a family that industry is done. Just watch

Maybe we should just stop automation? It'd be pretty easy to get a voter base for it.

user, do yourself a favor and actually read up on this tech. Its already being used.

Why do you think we have minimum wage laws? Corporations don't want them, but employed do, and it wins votes.
The law would entirely be to protect the truck / transportation / delivery agencies and guarantee those jobs are protected. If Republicans push that, they'll secure votes from those groups for decades.

Bullshit. Self driving cars are a long, long fucking way off and I'm not even sure it will ever be a reality.

Automation of manufacturing will take some jobs and it will also create more. Fuck off back to r/futurology you dumbfuck nigger.

That's a dumb assertion, because even if it does take jobs, as long as the factories are in the US, then they still have to pay taxes on the factory, and there's atleast a few robot maintenance jobs created, meaning money is staying within the country.

PA here.

i work in industrial hvac designing and building custom chillers for ice rinks and whatever else needs rapid cooling.
side work includes basic services on apartment complex heating and air conditioners, restaurant freezers and coolers ect.

its a comfy job and i dont see it being replaced anytime soon. i posted a resume online a few years ago and i still have random companies that call and want to hire me to do work for them.

This
Hope it's not my family

Stfu OP this has nothing to do with truck drivers losing jobs. All those companies you listed have nothing to do with the real freight businesses. Dont believe me though as ive only been a trucker for 30 years.

Those dumb liberal death machines wont be able to haul heavy loads and if it does it surely wont be able to back in most docks or anything. A lot of the docks throughout the US are shitly designed and can only be worked by humans and there is no way business are going to reshape their docks for some stupid unreliable death car.

Now for the love of god stop with these threads you fucking stupid ass hole. This has nothing to do with politics you fuck.

Yet deporting Mexicans still improves the job situation for Americans...

If people are going to be unemployed anyway you might as well make damn sure it's your country's citizens getting the jobs that are available.

What a bullshit map. How is the most common job "secretary" in a few states? Complete bullshit.

Automation will always need the human element

>Self driving cars are a long, long fucking way off
Not really. They alredy exist.Obviously for automated cars to replace all cars will take a long time. But the tehnology is alredy there

Short the computer, detach the trailer, steal the cargo.

Oh for fucks sakes user, human drivers kill 10 9/11s of people every year.

This. Although now entire industries exist that cater to women but I don't think its worth it.

This!

As soon as there are accidents there will be huge legislative push back. Then maybe in 20 years when they finish building highways and roads only used by self driving vehicles then maybe it will take off.

Didn't California just pass a law making driverless cars legal? Uber is turning into Johny Cab from Total Recall

Legislation

If automation is going to take jobs, why the ever loving fuck would you want Mexicans exacerbating the problem?

>Your jobs market is about to decrease by 10 million so stop keeping all of those foreigners out competing for your jobs
and people wonder why Brazil is fucked.

> will you approach the bench Google attorney bot 700?

Couldnt the docks just have a couple of people that back the truck in after it arrives? Are you spooked user? You should be.

Doesn't matter. That happens, people blame that driver.
If a program does it, people will blame the entire concept of programmed driving.

It's just the human condition. I'm fine with it too because this stupid shit doesn't improve anyone's lives but the few people designing it.

my own estimates are about 6% (in just transportation/warehousing) but arguing over the details about how bad the depression will be is irrelevant, shit's fucked and we're fucked, nobody is willing to change the way they need to for us to survive automation

>daily reminder that people who are afraid of automation and the tech singularity are too old for the world and should be purged

Robots also don't pop out 7 babies who will need welfare their entire lives.

This.

An airbus / boeing can couple the autopilot to fly a course, autoland, etc. already. Less obstacles on airways than on the ground where you have pedestrians, roads torn up for construction, etc..

I'm sure the reason they have not taken pilots out of the loop is because as soon as there is a single accident, ANY company remotely involved in the manufacturing / maintenance of the autopilot system will be (((sued))) out of existance.

Same thing happened to one of the only remaining carburetor manufacturers for small aircraft, they kept getting named in (((lawsuits))) every time there was a crash so they just closed up shop.

I'll start a road cleanup company and just start sabotaging and crashing AI trucks.

EZ money. Can steal stuff from the crash site, too.

Hurrr durrr automation robots AI technology green energy self driving cars AUTOMATIC ROBOTS WITH AI GREEN TECH

YOUR JOB IS TOAST

t. redit

Women actually started working during the world wars. It was necessary because the men were fighting. So women had to manufacture all the shit back at home on a mass scale. Hence the "We can do it!" posters.
It's just that they got used to working and it just kinda stuck even after the wars ended. Not to mention tons of men died.

That's not going to cut it with exponential advances in computing. You'd be able to last for about 5~10 more years before you get replaced by an eventual robo-american or robo-einstein.

People are only a few meals away from anarchy. Even if they try to overthrow the goverment that's going to fail anyways, because an army marches on its stomach and starving people don't make for good revolutionaries.

Don't forget the horses.

You'd fall behind to countries who embrace automation. Being a luddite isn't going to help in the long run.

>automation will take the jobs
Good. We can finally stop importing subhumans.

remember when nobody had time for anything other than farming?

stfu

that's just it, im excited by the ideal of automation and working only when your desire. but too many people stuck in their ways (billionaires and the soon to be crowned trillionaires)

The tech is there sure. Not good enough for its intended use. Will result in many preventable deaths and as such will be implemented in any meaningful way.

Google can keep trying. I like watching them waste money. Hopefully it will be one of the many bad business ideas that will put them out of business.

>Self-driving cars are around the corner,
Good luck with that legal red tape nightmare.

The thing about autonomous vehicles is that commercial trucks wont get that treatment. Trucks break down, and the last thing you want is a truck full of product sitting on the side of the road with nobody watching it.

r u ok buddy?

>If automation is going to take jobs, why the ever loving fuck would you want Mexicans exacerbating the problem?

OP REKT IN THE ANUS.

Fucking this.
youtube.com/watch?v=Zicmm0nSzEM

Butlerian Jihad when?

This is why I am not afraid for my job as a truck driver. Worst case scenario they make all our trucks self driving but legally they will need to keep a person in each truck to watch in case of emergency. Basically I will just be shitposting on the chans will my truck drives everywhere and I get PAID. Seems comfy af.

>the most common job in virginia
>software developer
literally fuck off

So you're saying we won't need Mexicans

Most people will be happy to just go fishing or whatever. It's not like basic income will replace all jobs, people wanting to move up can still get their shit together to innovate, same as it is today.

they're like blonde jews

>10 9/11s

Robot resistance when?

Start carrying a magnet in your pocket now to combat the droid menace.

>I don't know how to read a government budget

Automation will eventually take much of our jobs most likely, but at least those factories will be at home then, and not in the hands of foreign powers

And what is your point dumbass. The minute one of those big ass trucks malfunctions and wrecks a little old grandma everyone will forever see them as death trucks. The "humans kill more people a year in accidents!" is not going to work. To them you are just going to sound like the fags who say we should legalize a certain drug because alcohol kills more people

>be delivery driver
>will get to shitpost while delivering
Based

>tfw this will open up a whole new world for potential shenanigans

Automation will be the internet reborn in a physical medium, already there are videos of cunts rushing behind Tesla cars just to have their auto pilot kick in and accelerate asap to avoid getting hit from behind.

I can't fucking wait.

No, the argument will be
"omg now that we have so much excess why don't we share. We can feed the world!! So why don't we?! What are you, racist?"

>Millions of young people will not integrate into the workforce

how is this any different than how they don't work now?

Exactly. As long as consumption is tied to employment you're going to have a very big problem. Universal basic income will come one way or another, as otherwise you can't keep producing because of lack of consumers.

inb4 Say's Law and other Austrian fallacies . . .

What will happen is the same thing that happened before when automation made industries more effective. Those people will afford more luxury services, the service economy will grow, and the quality of living will go up

As I UPS driver, I can honestly say I ain't scared.

Liberalism is the AIDS that weakens society and allows the common cold (islam) or whatever to horribly infect it.

>we need tens of millions of illegal mexicans for into economy
>robots are going to take all the jobs
Pick one.

You think STEM is safe? Big corporations are offshoring their IT positions to pooinloos with similar skills for one third of their salaries.

Thing is - you're not replacing just jobs. You're replacing people. A service economy still implies you have people being paid to service others.

As a truck driver i doubt it will be automated anytime soon.

Gps routinely takes truckers into low bridges, tunnels, etc where they arent supposed to be. And a computer aint reading a map.

Also some places i deliver have horrible docks, that are archaic. Extremely hard for even a seasoned trucker to back into, let alone a computer.

And the #1 reason why it'll fail, 4-wheelers (cars, trucks, normal vehicle traffic). You people cause 95% of wrecks, you people cut me off, slam brakes, and drive like shit. A computer will fuck up, and not no how life lessons a seasoned driver will know.

Many will die, before its outlawed. Or they'll hire some twat who makes $8hr to sit behind wheel and be the "backup".

>Extremely hard for even a seasoned trucker to back into, let alone a computer.
i dont think you understand that the automated truck can think of a 185 point turn maneuver to back itself perfectly to a loading dock before you can even blink

This is what socialists want, because it essentially allows the majority of the population to receive a basic income of like 20 to 30k a year, with all middle and working class jobs automated. Then there's a jump to the rich, and another jump to the super rich.
Hopefully legislation stops it. As a police officer I can already see the push to be replaced by a fucking robot in 20 to 30 years.

>Gps routinely takes truckers into low bridges, tunnels, etc where they arent supposed to be. And a computer aint reading a map.
Because Gps in cars work with an fixed map that doesn't get updated.Google maps in your phone is extremelly accuarate

oh look another thread by the brasilian muslim shill, so convincing.

wtf I love shillary now.

I see nothing wrong with this. The only thing that will happen is that the drivers will be payed less. There will always be a need for a driver to watch the ar or truck while it's driving in case of soft ware malfunction.

Lol back to Redit kiddo

Universal basic gas chambers will happen before your wet dream.
