>Based on an original idea by Selick, the story centers on “two scheming demon brothers who must face their arch-nemesis, the demon-dusting nun Sister Helly, and her two acolytes, the goth teens Kat and Raoul,” in the director’s words. Key and Peele will be voicing said demons.
Sounds like To Help and Back, but whatever...Are you interested?
I'm down. Can't get enough stop-motion in my life.
Cooper Reed
>The rivals are a nun and her two goth sidekicks I look forward to the show and it's obsurd amount of fanart.
John Martin
Sounds rad, Selick is a visionary
Leo Walker
They're also getting this stop-motion movie:
>Netflix is closing a whopper of a deal this morning to acquire Bubbles, a package built around the Isaac Adamson spec screenplay that topped the 2015 Black List that tells the offbeat story of iconic singer Michael Jackson from the perspective of his beloved chimp Bubbles. Oscar nominated director Taika Waititi (Two Cars, One Night and Thor: Ragnarok) is set to co-direct the stop-motion animated film with Mark Gustafson (Fantastic Mr. Fox).
Well I like them as a comedic team, so o don’t mind, but I just remember hearing that they were getting drained. As for OPs question, normally Netflix would worry me, but I trust Selick. So I’ll look forward to it
Fuck dammit you stupid manchild fuckwit, you know that ass is my property, I'ma plant a fucking SIGNPOST in that rectum nice & DEEP so you know you can't be jumpin' my claim on that tight tushy tunnel
Dominic Bell
>her two acolytes, the goth teens Kat and Raoul >Kat >Goth teen
They wrote tons of songs but Selick decided they weren’t right for the movie, to this day other that the “Other Father Song” that made the cut the only one that’s been released is “Careful What You Pack” TMBG has said they worked hard on the soundtrack and were disappointed with the outcome though they hold no grudge and have a lot of respect for Selick, they haven’t really hinted towards the material ever getting released though
I remember reading a tidbit where the puppets had removable faces and that’s how their expressions were done, by swapping them out (same with all other LAIKA movies, though the number of expressions and complexity of the 3D printing equipment has multiplied with each film). This produced a noticable line seperating the face from the rest of the body, which Selick fought to keep in the finished product but ended up being shouted down by the studio superiors and ended up being CGI’d out of every frame. I wonder if he’ll get his way this time
desu i agree with the execs the cgi definitely impacted the "purity" of the stop motion, but the line probably would have distracted from the expressions themselves
Doing a project together isn't the same quantity or quality of effort as doing a weekly show.

For a moment I thought you asked where we would be able to watch them.
Since they were picked up relatively recently, I'd give "Bubbles" somewhere to the end of 2018 for an announcement or release, and the Selick film around mid-2019. I could be wrong, of course.
Personally I feel like Netflix needs to start hedging its bets about what projects to pick up and what to pass upon. I think they have 700+ Netflix Original shows and movies on their platform as it is. I could almost see them cutting non-Netflix movies and TV series entirely in the future.
Depends on who owns the rights to the music. If another song from the film has already come out through TMBG, then it's up to them to release the music. If the song came out as part of the film's soundtrack, then it would probably still be in the hands of the film's producers or Selick himself.
Luis Garcia
Coraline came out a decade ago m9, pretty sure the influence is the other way around
Jordan Morgan
“Careful What You Pack” was released on one of TMBG’s own albums (over a year before Coraline hit theaters) so they probably retained the rights to all the unused stuff. I think there’s a possibility that the reason they haven’t used more of it is that the lyrics too strongly tie into the plot of the film and wouldn’t make as much sense out of context.. but even if that’s true a download or podcast that’s explicitly the unused songs from Coraline would be great
Isaiah Davis
>I'd give "Bubbles" somewhere to the end of 2018 for an announcement or release My guess is that they release it just in time for the Oscars. It has a chance at winning considering:
1. Both Disney/Pixar movies this year are sequels (and they look underwhelming). 2. Its screenplay was deemed the best by the Black List. 3. It's from the studio that made Anomalisa, an Oscar nominated film.
Julian Stewart
I know. Bad wording there, I guess.
Eli Mitchell
Oh, good. I was getting worried.
I hadn't heard anything about it since a Q&A of his I went to last year.
Easton Collins
>director of Coraline Ok >starring Key & Peele. ehhhHHhh >two scheming demon brothers dig > their arch-nemesis, the demon-dusting nun Sister Helly whoa now >the goth teens Kat and Raoul whoa momma
some day there will be a forgotten yet fervent stop-motion veteran turned rule 34 artist who recreates the puppets and makes them fuck, pose by pose and frame by frame.
Also Taika Waititi is co-directing and he’s been a hot name over the last year. Kathleen Kennedy basically publicly offered him a Star Wars movie and they’re fast-tracking a TV show based on his movie What We Do In The Shadows (which was great btw and he’s adorable in it)
Dominic James
>It has a chance at winning considering: Is it a Disney/Pixar film? No? Then it won't win. Period.
Ian Wright
It no one’s done Coraline /ll/ stop motion porn by now among all the other smut the movie spawned I don’t think anyone’s going to put forth the effort to make real stop motion r34. Would love to be proven wrong though. Maybe I should learn the craft and start a Patreon.
Benjamin Allen
Rango won though, they refused to even nominate Cars 2 that year. Though I doubt Incredible 2 will be that bad. And maybe Taika Waititi not being white will help
Adrian Hughes
how long until Netflix is totally out of money? none of those recent investments look like they increase their revenues.
Dylan Brooks
Fuck you Netflix for ruining movie theaters and cable TV by taking all the talent away.
Julian Wood
yes, but don't judge it for its 1st episode since its the weakest
I’ll just enjoy it while it lasts desu, their stocks are pretty highly valued (higher than Apple and Disney, though not touching Amazon) so for now investors seem to think they’ll still stick around and keep growing for a while. Also they said in a press release fairly recently (I think the one that announced Tuca & Bertie) that animation is the area they’re currently focusing on expanding and they’ve been holding true to that; Hilda looks nice, Twelve Forever getting made saves us from another “what if” scenario regardless of how it turns out, the new Matt Groening show being ran by the Mission Hill guys is promising, and both of these stop-motion movies sound good.
And how is that netflix fault? They are a lot more open to the ideas of creators than others.
Anthony Baker
Henry Selick tried to make his movie with Disney in 2011, they gave him his own studio and he spent 50 million of their money before they cut him off unceremoniously (thereby wasting their own time and money) for making a film that wasn’t commercial enough. I’d put more of a blame on the studios for not wanting to take any risks. I wonder what Wes Anderson will do once Disney finishes buying Fox Searchlight (at which point they’ll own every single one of his movies except Bottle Rocket, several of the older ones were always owned by them through Touchstone and Mirimax)
>I could almost see them cutting non-Netflix movies and TV series entirely in the future. That was always the plan - they do buisness on an international scale, and they don’t have to work out licenses for each individual territory if they own all the content. I’m surprised old stalwarts like Parks and Rec and Archer are still on there desu
Christopher Perez
The stuff on Netflix is stuff no established studio or channel would take a chance on anyway. This movie would never have been made without them. I'm glad we have digital networks striving to make advertiser-sanctioned focus-test-sanitized trash like cable television obsolete.
Josiah Bennett
>hold no grudge based as fuck giants. they're one of the few who honestly just seem happy to create things for the sake of creation
Leo Smith
The first ever Oscar in the animation category went to Shrek. Disney/Pixar is powerful, but they're not invincible.
Jason Bell
>where the puppets had removable faces and that’s how their expressions were done, by swapping them out Not only this but each face was split vertically along the center of the eyeline (upper half was for eyebrows, mainly) and as you said that seam was digitally erased frame by frame.
The IMAX in Phoenix ended their 3D run of Coraline to run the fucking Jonas Brothers concert movie and it did so shit in attendance they just replaced it with Coraline again.
Matthew Brown
I don't think they mind working together. I mean Key had a cameo in Get Out and ofc they worked together on Keanu and Fargo.
Michael Jones
I’m seeing them live for the first time in about 20 hours after being a fan for over a decade, too hyped
Jordan Hernandez
Shrek beat out Jimmy Neutron and Monsters, Inc. In the ensuing 16 years Pixar has won 9 out of 10 nominations and Disney scooped 3 of the remaining 5. Put another way, the last time Disney/Pixar did not win (2011) was a year in which they didn't have ANY nominations.
