Princess, it's a German or Dutch film from... I'm gonna say 2008. Basically this guy's sister dies and he takes custody of her daughter and discovers that she and her mother were basically being sexually abused.

The guy tries to help her live a normal childhood by day and goes all Charles Bronson in Death Wish on the sleazy porno guys by night.

That'll get you arrested in Bongland

>The guy tries to help her live a normal childhood by day and goes all Charles Bronson in Death Wish on the sleazy porno guys by night.
Why did this make me laugh

Thank you I saw this in another thread i needed context. I'm gonna check it out now sounds interesting and not something like titeuf that i thought,

Found it, it's a Danish film from 2006
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_(2006_film)

It's kind of a disturbing little film to be honest. The shit with the little girl is just a bit too real and uncomfortable. Like there's a scene early on where the uncle's just taken custody of the kid and he's trying his best to be a decent caregiver, and tries to talk her into taking a bath and you can see how ridiculously uncomfortable it makes her. He finally gets her in the tub and the moment he gets her clothes off she unzips his fly and tries to grab his dick, and it's not remotely played in any kind of like lewd or even quasi-lewd way, it's like in a really fucked up way you could imagine some poor kid who's been beaten, abused and raped would do something like that out of instinct.

I watched it once years ago and I've never had any desire to see it again.

Interesting topic for an animated movie. Hopefully Sup Forums would watch it.

I'll pretend that this is a Clarissa sequel.

This is it, right?

Clarissa is too self aware

Neat.

What was the pint of making this story as a cartoon? It's way too serious, it should have been a live action movie.

>It's way too serious
>it should have been a live action movie.
The animation gives a sense of innocence lost

Probably finding a six year old actress or younger doing things like

HOLY FUCK

Ever heard of law & order SVU? They have constantly underage actors pretending to have been molested.

But there won't be an audience for it. Only people who already watch cartoons would want to watch it, regardless of how well written it may be, but little kids are too young to see this, thus only people like us would be an intended audience, which is way too small for any gain they might hope they get out of this.

>But there won't be an audience for it
Maybe the creators made it for its own sake.

It's the difference between art and a product, a product has to reach a lot of people, art can only effect one person.

that's not how professional work goes. Only amateurs can allow themselves to make art for arts sake. This had a budget of over a million dollars

>animation cant be serious
Hey have you heard of this show called Family Guy? Seems more your speed.

A lot of European countries offer government grants to animators and other such art, it's why Tomm Moore could make Song of the Sea and Wolfwalkers despite Secret of Kells not being even remotely successful in the box office.

This is the mindset that doesn't allow American animation progress. This is why the only "adult" animated movies you get are immature garbage like Sausage Party.

Probably government money and I don't care about that if its foreigners
Also what is the audience for something like this?
youtube.com/watch?v=OwzqtF2W6RQ

That or the dime a dozen special episodes of long running adult animated shows.

Before you dismiss it, you should check out its accolades:
imdb.com/title/tt0419073/awards

Like a couple seconds after this the blonde kid tries to do something to the girl with a stick right?

So her uncle breaks the little shits arm and tosses him like fifteen feet.

This movie's uncomfortable man.

>The Tragedy of Man took 23 years to make
>Almost no audience for it because it's a three hour long philosophical animated film

Fuck I hate that attitude. Any art form can convey its message regardless of its medium. Fuck you and your societal stigmas.

>That guy thinks animation can't be serious
>So i will let him just watch Family Guy, because i like feeling superiour
you're fucking retarded
I never said animation can't be serious, but that it can't be JUST serious. There should be a reason why something is animated, a film, a book etc. It shouldn't be just because you were limited in your choice, but because that medium can do things that are required for your story to tell.

>it cant be JUST serious
Oh, so you are just trolling.
fuck off, retard.

yes, your problem is? Oh right, you don't have one. Or you think a serious capeshit movie can also be classified under "just serious", even though muscular men fighting in spandex is anything but serious, even if the story itself is.

Attached: princess_6.webm (1278x510, 2.95M)

This is important; the uncle is also quite fucked up. There seems to be a subplot about porn not being so ominous and evil, contrary to the uncle's thirst for vengeance; there's a hilariously deadpan shot where homely middle-age people dub moans onto a porn film, totally devoid of eroticism or any kind of immoral menace. It's depicted as a boring job.

Later, after the uncle has done something illegal and threatening to the porn studio, they call the police but they're unwilling to help (i.e. do their jobs) because it's a porn studio.

Lastly, at one point the little girl runs by herself into a mansion where the porn studio is throwing an industry party and encounters what's presumably a porn actress who is quite nice to her.

>that's not how it is done
she still has a lot to learn it seems

>comparing an entire medium to a shitty film genre

Attached: 1500450202001.gif (499x654, 1.44M)

>Lastly, at one point the little girl runs by herself into a mansion where the porn studio is throwing an industry party and encounters what's presumably a porn actress who is quite nice to her.
Because that makes it better

it's called an example fucktard, not a comparison

>Lastly, at one point the little girl runs by herself into a mansion where the porn studio is throwing an industry party and encounters what's presumably a porn actress who is quite nice to her.
Why'd you have to remind me of that part man.

I think the point is that making films of people fucking doesn't mean you rape children.

What the fuck?

its a complete false equivalency though, capeshit has always been full of humor and quips anyway. You're obviously a pleb, like i said before go check out Family Guy.

Attached: 1508212175552.jpg (543x1134, 184K)

I feel like this is one of those things that's gonna' get a american remake in like the next couple years and it's gonna' be completely different.

Sort of like that live action adaption of Kite.

An example of murican shit being the most widely known genre. Japan can make adult stories and movies without resorting to dick jokes and ecchi.

>live action adaption of Kite.
I forgot that existed.

The American version of Old Boy, too.

>capeshit has always been full of humor and quips anyway
confirmed for not having watched more than shitty Marvel Cinemativ Universe capeshit movies.

So YOU don't have an example of your so called serious cartoon movies, you just say "go back to family guy". Great argument.

Would it be stylized or some arthouse-styled movie?

oh yes, like that one movie that came out last year, that one with the deaf girl, the one that no one but adult cartoon/anime fans enjoyed because it was too serious.
You totally got me there, proving me wrong that serious cartoon movies can work.

????
Name (1) super hero movie without quips or humor, ill wait.

how was american old boy?

Thanks for the info, I'm interested to check it out

oh sorry, plenty of examples
Fantastic Planet
Jin Roh
Fire and Ice

NOW ON YOUTUBE!

youtube.com/watch?v=dudmqtzKuR0

The whole damn thing. It's just an hour and ten minutes. A quick watch. Although you might regret it.

ENJOY!

Attached: princess.jpg (535x730, 50K)

Don't forget The Tragedy of Man

You gave the example, not me.

I had in mind "Barefoot gen"

>Fantastic Planet
>Fire and Ice
quite old movies you dug up
I couldn't find anything about fantastic planet on whether it was able to make it's money back, but Fire and Ice underperformed quite a lot.
>Jin Roh
quite well received in Japan and old Sup Forums, but who the fuck cares about it in the rest of the world? I couldn't find anything about how well it was actually received when it premiered

the topic isn't just that serious cartoons exist, or that they are "true art" or whatever, but that they are profitable

Like most american remakes. Unneeded.

Something not being profitable doesn't mean it's not worth being made.

I saw this movie on late night television once when I was 12. I also saw Fantastic Planet when I was 5 on day time television. I wonder how they both influenced me as a person but I'm not sure it was for better or for worse.

Attached: 1472802186848.jpg (555x545, 71K)

>You gave the example, not me.
that was the point retard. You just "Duuuh, movies exist, like, japan and stuff..."
>Barefoot gen
another classic like the other user
i also couldn't find anything about how well it made, but since it got a sequel movie i guess it did fine. But from what i heard it had a huge following even before it became an anime. Manga and even comics have been known for a long time that they can be serious and have a wide spread appeal, even to mainstream audience

American profit? They get their money back through marketing or brand / actor awareness. They never took the medium seriously because they have a mindset for cartoons being all disney and whimsical, or toy commercials.

>you might regret it.
>ENJOY!
I feel like this should be Sup Forums's slogan

...

>but that they are profitable
Only Hollywood cares about profitably and you're a retard for falling for it.

Disturbing Intrigue
Enjoy your infuriation
Through dick, Unity!

>I also saw Fantastic Planet when I was 5 on day time television

Attached: NightmareImprovement.jpg (550x266, 49K)

that's not how the world works, if you do a commercialized product, like a movie, you need to make a profit, otherwise you will go into debt or will never get work again.

>you need to make a profit, otherwise you will go into debt or will never get work again
Tomm Moore

because hollywood knows how to feed family, while you retards only care about "art", or rather "I want to be an artist but i have nothing to show for it but my pride"

>that's not how the world works
Fuck the world. This is art we're talking about. Not everything is about money.

>"I want to be an artist but i have nothing to show for it but my pride"
Said no one in this thread at any point
You asked what the point of this film existing was, we told you art, you got triggered that some film studio on another continent dared make art instead focus group tested shit.

Jin-Roh is weird to watch if you've seen The Red Spectacles.

Nah man, sometimes it's the passion that drives a man to do things you'd deem illogical. If love can turn a man into a fool, dreams can too.

When I see these kinds of posts, I think of Laika and how a rich ass motherfucker just spends a whole year doing stopmotion and making only 4 million dollars over the 60 million budget.

>Tomm Moore
i took a quick look at his wiki and couldn't see how he is not bankrupt yet
is it like Laika, who has a rich founder of the animation studio and thus only can produce these movies because he got lucky in life?

Irish government provides grants to animators

Well this thread's slightly derailed, but at least the bump's giving awareness to the thread's film.

Attached: 1521172847161.jpg (720x719, 41K)

Laika continues to make movies because they're all box office smashes right? All those Kubo toys?

>Said no one in this thread at any point
Again, i HAVE TO come up with some explanation for your guys opinions, because you don't say anything yourself until i force you to correct my assumption about you.

>we told you art
And i told you that this doesn't work in the real world. The original topic was that movie in the OP, and i said "Why did they do this as a cartoon?" because it could work much better as a live action. They could make art and make a living out of it. But it's you guys who got triggered because "Muh special medium"

You can feed you family on a box office flop; it's already been financed and everyone is paid for. Do you not even know the definition of "profit"?

>art doesn't work in the real world
There comes a time where you just have to stop, instead of clinging desperately to an argument you think you have to win even as the things you're saying get more nonsensical with every post

>And i told you that this doesn't work in the real world
Only it clearly does since this thread alone lists several examples
>i said "Why did they do this as a cartoon?" because it could work much better as a live action
If you're triggered by animation not just being live action instead, why are you on Sup Forums?

hol up
why is a grown man pretending to be a baby

Pretty sure it's just a bunch of kids being stupid.

>uncle blows up the girl

yeah because it's much better fate than being molested

Do you faggots honestly not know what "playing house" is?

It's a cartoon because the director, Morgenthaler, is an artist and an animator. He understands the medium of cartoons better than he does live action, and thus he has an easier time writing this kind of movie. That's all the reason you need.

Salutes to the man.

>playing house
I already said it was a bunch of kids being stupid. Don't you know how to read?

So is this on the list of Sup Forums approved movies or what?

I dunno. Do you need some arbitrary strangers on an anime board to approve a movie for you? It's only a little over an hour and a youtube link was already posted. If you're interested just go watch it.

He's a tripfag, of course he needs approval.

I need strangers to tell me how to feel about something, yes. Why else would you come to Sup Forums?

And yet somehow a silly RPG about booby expansion gets banned. Thank fuck I don't live in Europe.

Attached: omega 5.webm (1920x1089, 1.15M)

Because he just won't let it go, reasons why OP's movie could have benefited from being done in animation instead of live-action:
>portraying uncomfortable subject matter involving minors without having to worry as much about child actor laws
>exaggerating violent scenes so they appear more dreamlike and abstract than if shot traditionally
>characters all drawn cute so the drama seems even more disturbing
>knowing characters were created to exist just in this world heightens the stakes as opposed to possible disconnect of knowing they're all actors
>animation being used as an aesthetic device, while live-action is used to achieve a different effect in the film (the movie actually has a bit of live-action in parts)
>it's the medium the creators are experienced with, and being a good animation director doesn't automatically mean they'd be just as good making the material in live-action, and vice-versa
>European audiences are more used to animation lending itself to kids entertainment as well as more adult stories, and it's not uncommon for more adult productions to find success there
>ditto for animated films portraying realism
>ditto for films in general that are more artistically daring or provocative, New Wave art films were very successful for decades in France
>European animated films are made for SIGNIFICANTLY smaller budgets than mainstream US productions
>European animation is mainly the result of investor-funding, and it's not uncommon for a film to be released with dozens of attached sponsors, so most animated films never need to worry about making a profit because they've already obtained their budget back before production started, and anything from theatres is bonus

Attached: mads_cannes.png (1278x719, 856K)

It's seriousness is why its animated. Animation just makes the already hard pill to swallow easier to observe without just wanting to immediately turn it off. Also animation is better in the animation. A live action dramatic scene can easily turn bad and hokey losing it's seriousness
>Ever heard of law & order SVU?
yeah and it's hokey as shit. everything is toned town for a daytime TV audience where every scene is made to just to move the plot along. You can't replicate the scenes in this movie into live action the people would riot.

It's perfectly fine to buy the game in the whole europe, you can't just sell it in the cucked parts of it

>Such a newfag they don't even know that there's a literal recommendation list for Sup Forums movies.

Golly.

Good, giving lolis huge tits is a THOT crime.
