Seasons 1-4 best seasons. 5-7 ok tier anything past that is advanced darness tier.

The show has definitely gotten a second breath after Stephen Hillenburg came back. I've only seen a few of the newer episodes, but they're filled with tremendous energy and crazy animated expressions.
The Noir Squidward episode was really funny.

The writing is still on par with post movie SpongeBob (aka it's still shit), but now 90% of the "jokes" are just "lol le random whacky faces!!! xD", which, coincidentally, your pic is an example of.
