Why is Sony so dedicated to the cinematic universe meme?

Same reason WB is. They want Avengers money without doing the work.

It amazes me how literally every single company failed at launching their cinematic universe besides Marvel. It’s not like Marvel keeps their success a secret either. Put a fanboy in charge of the whole thing and literally just make good movies.

I bet it’s the studio politics that fuck up other companies. Marvel Studios is pretty young so they haven’t had the time to get bogged down by beuacracy.

not true legendary is doing fine

It's incredibly evident that Sony doesn't really think. They're the absolute real life embodiment of a out-of-touch studio corporation. They will, without fail, try and mimic everything else that is successful without managing to understand how or why it was successful.

>legendary

two Kong movies do not a cinematic universe make

eh, LucasFilm is doing OK

because when it works they're self-hyping movies with shared art and prop assets, which helps keep costs down compared to making the same number of unrelated, similar-genre movies

Yost is writing Silver and Black, so I do have a bit of optimism there.

Wasn't sliver and black softly canceled or put on hiatus?

when was the last time sony pulled out a box office success? I think those japs are just desperate for a film that is a hit

And just like WB and all other studios, they won't get the money.

Just read those emails to get an idea, user. Even if Venom bombs they'll probably keep insisting.

It's the simple fact that they're impatient. They want big Avengers money and they want it NOW. They don't want to do four or five standalone films to build anticipation and goodwill first.

Marvel is doing the grunts work user while the money is ripe for the taking.
Sony ALWAYS wins baby.

They tried with Emoji. Really. It was rushed and made in two years because they were desperate for SOMETHING to be a hit (And because they were afraid someone would make an emoji movie before them. Yes really.)

Bingo.

Really? Because they've been hemorrhaging money for years.

Brand, marketing whatever you want to call it, the companies have realized that these are the most important things in entertainment right NOW.

Disney paid 4 BILLION for a story about space samurai. The story on it's own is worth nothing in today's market but this story come's attached with some extreme brand recognition.

Christopher Nolan is only able to get the funding for original IP's because he has become a recognizable brand in his own right. He makes a film and people notice.

Jumangi almost made a $1b last time checked

Don’t they have an R&D team or whatever companies use to get the social lay of the land? It amazes me how out of touch those faggots are with the common people. What they did with Ghostbusters just shows whoever is in charge gets no input from what people want out of these franchises.

Amy Pascal is a fucking moron, simple as that.

>eh, LucasFilm is doing OK
Star Wars isn't really a cinematic universe in the way Marvel is though, but yeah they're doing quite well.

dollah, dollah

Two Kong movies and two Godzilla movies.

Although they really need something for after GvsK.

Reserve your optimism until they've cast Black Cat and Silver Sable.

They cant think of anything else to make money.

>LucasFilm is doing OK
They're only three movies in and they have already pissed off the core fanbase, movies and under performing, and toys are selling like shit.

Feige claimed in a interview on some podcast that prior to working with Lauren Donner on X-Men that he never cared about comic books or Marvel comics specifically besides very popular Marvel comic book characters he might have seen in a cartoon on tv.

Marvel wants a separate world of movies that star characters associated strongly with Spider-Man to be made by a separate movie studio so an easy excuse can be made for why non-Spider-Man characters don't appear in those movies. They just also would like for the movies to be well received and to cause lots of merchandise to be sold and for the ability to bring in any of those characters in that world in to other movies outside of that world.

Yet against all logic, she still has a high-paying, important position in Hollywood.

Doesn't seen like it considering they've shitcanned Silver and Black. Bad Venom buzz too
