Agreed, I'd wish they'd went this route. Katara and Aang's relationship always felt more familial than romantic to me, and the execution was pure dogshit. I would've left it open-ended, with implied romantic feelings brewing between Zuko and Katara. You wouldn't need to change much at all for that to work.

HIBY is interesting to me because the closer you look at it the worse it gets. Zuko spends the entirety of the show willing to do anything to get his kingdom back, just to throw it away at the first opportunity. The author, who ironically is female, sees nothing wrong with Zuko beating the shit out of his wife so he can run away to be with his sidepiece. And everything is supposed to be fine and romantic when really the Fire Nation should logically be in flames right now. I would love to see a case study on this author and Zutara fans as a whole.
