To be fair WoD sucked and Legion did bring back a lot of players. I have no problem saying that WoW is still the most popular MMO out there still.

Wrath and Pandaland were both around the same length of duration, except one had an engaging premise that culminated since Vanilla, which would turn into a climatic finish ontop of a citadel. The other was appeasing chinks and aside from the initial "WOW" factor, left a lot to be desired.

Pandaland was vastly underrated because it came out around the same time Kung Fu Panda was fresh in everyones head, it easily has some of the best designs.

Near the end of an expansion is when they start drumming up hype for the next one, so players who left midway start returning. WoD in particular was hyped to hell and back with brand new features. Unfortunately, it failed to deliver and players quickly left in droves.
