Yes, which is the career path one would take to get into NASA. As many of the pilots they used were in the military. Lovell, Borman, Collins and others were pilots, some of them even fighter pilots.
Originally she was Marr-Vells bodyguard at NASA when his civilian identity was a rocket doctor or whatever. I know she was air force but idk if she was ever a pilot.

its kinda sad really. Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are the names people know cause they went to the moon. Michael Collins was a skilled pilot. He arguably was more skilled than the other 2, especially since NASA entrusted him with the mission of potentially returning home alone if complications arose and the men on the moon could not be retrieved. All three were great pilots though, that's how NASA works, they like redundancy till they know something works.
Monica has ties with the Captain Marvel name, also they are not going to have anyone overpower Carol in her own movie.

Carol was a fighter pilot then later an operative in Air Force intelligence and achieved the rank of Colonel (Major pre-KSD run). She then went on to become head of NASA security. She was then fired from this position because of all the alien shenanigans that Mar-Vell had a tendency to bring to their facilities. She then became a writer and later editor for JJJ's version of Ms. magazine. She also got used to her super powers multiple times (her powers always fucking change rules every decade. For example her first few times as Miss Marvel she had a split personality and couldn't remember being a super hero). Got raped by an inter-dimensional being and gave birth to him. Then the Avengers just let her get taken away by him, she escaped and decided she didn't like the Avengers very much after that. Then she got mind raped by Rogue so hard she lost her memories and was saved by Spider-Woman. Professor X restored them but she lost the emotions tied to the memories. Hung out with the X-men until the Brood kidnapped her and unlocked her Super Sayen powers and she became binary for awhile. Then Mar-vel died of cancer and no one decided to tell her, the person who was romantically involved with him in the past, that he was dying/dead (she found out by accident while crashing the Avengers poker game with Wolverine). She went off to space after this and had space adventures as Binary with her Super Sayen powers that allow her to blow up planets. Then she lost her powers after having to save Earth from the sun going nova. Got some of her power back, but very little, decided to wear body armor since she wasn't bullet proof anymore. Renamed herself to Warbird, then promptly crawled into a bottle to drown herself in booze because just look at how fucked up her life is. She also became a best selling sci-fi writer. Got sober thanks to Tony and got her old powers back along with being able to go Super Sayen if she absorbs a fuck ton of energy in one sitting.
So how long until she has a daughter in her comics? Maybe bring her son back too
