G.I. Joe - A Real American Hero...

G.I. Joe - A Real American Hero, IDW's continuation of the classic Marvel comic written (and mostly created) by Larry Hama (both the original Marvel comic and the IDW continuation of it), has just reached its landmark 250th issue.

It genuinely blows my mind that a comic based on a toyline (though in a way it's more like the toyline was based on the comics, but still...) could last this long. It says something about the quality of these characters and the comic itself that it has this much staying power. This is one of the longest running currently published comics to never have been rebooted, relaunched, or renumbered, having lasted not only through 250 issues, but 36 YEARS in the process. I believe only Gold Digger and Spawn can outpace it in number of issues, and I'm pretty sure NO comic currently published today has lasted over 3 and a half DECADES without being numbered (correct me if I'm wrong).

Such a historic occasion deserves a storytime.

So that's exactly what we're gonna do.

GET YOUR ASS IN HERE AND READ THIS SHIT!

AND HERE'S TO ANOTHER 250 ISSUES!

G.I. JOE - A REAL AMERICAN HERO #250

You know as sad as it is that Marvel lost all of their good 3rd party properties (ROM, GI JOE, Transformers, Conan, Micronauts) in the 90s the bright side is if GI JOE had continued to be owned by Marvel Hama definitely would not be still writing it and it would have been cancelled and rebooted about a dozen times and have tons of terrible event tie ins and just be utter crap.

They got Conan back. I genuinely am worried about what they're going to do to it. Almost 100% guaranteed that it ends up being nothing like Conan.

bumping to read

Not to discount the current book, but G.I. Joe has been rebooted, relaunched, and renumbered several times.

Not this series.

Didn't RAH continue through Devil's Due or some shit with a different writer though?

The Devil's Due stuff needs to be figured out so those can be reprinted, but no, it was a different run

Yes, this is the 2nd version of a continuation of the original Marvel series.

These last two issues could have given us a great battle between an evenly matched Firefly and the new Snake-Eyes, but instead Firefly's been made to look like he has no chance the whole time.

True, but the IDW ARAH continuation only started in 2010. There's a decade between Marvel and this, most of which involves the Devil's Due reboot.

It has been. IDW released the two main series under the name Disavowed. No reprints of the various mini series.

Which sucks because Hama considers the Storm Shadow and GI Joe Declassified stuff he did to be ARAH canon.

Master and Apprentice and MaAII, an 8 issue trade.
Declassified GI Joe and Dreadnoks, 6 issue trade
Declassified Snake Eyes and Scarlet, 7 issue trade.
Storm Shadow, 7 issue trade.
Frontline, a massive 17 issue trade? 2 at 8 and 9 issues? 3?

Special Missions was 4 issues? 5? One trade.

Order of Battle was 3 or don't bother?

Goddamn it'd be so easy to do and put all Joe material back out there.

IDW has done this same thing with Transformers. Just... stop reprinting before the end. They still have 3 UK volumes to do, and one for Generation 2 I wish they'd do.

I think their TMNT reprint line has slowed to a stop too, despite still having a good chunk of material to go.

When the fuck is IDW going to start reprinting the original run in hardcovers again? I specifically did not buy the earlier trade paperbacks because the hardcovers were going to reprint everything in order, including Special Missions.

I checked like a week ago. Seems like they'll start soon. I don't know why IDW took like two years off from reprinting everything. I thought they did decent money on that stuff.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter for GI Joe man. Sure the stuff technically crossed over, but it was pretty contained.

It is nice that we get Hot Potato and the character profile and pin up pages. No idea why the trades skipped those in the first place.

>Anyway, it doesn't really matter for G.I Joe

I know, but this type of stuff is my nerd porn. Reading the entire run in chronological order in one bound hardcover format.

Sir, I can do nothing but respect that.

I've long wished IDW would have just released the entire Marvel UK in one clear shot, so I could read it with the US material all together. Because good lord is it a mess to read years apart.

AND NOT FINISHED BEING REPRINTED YET GOD FUCKING DAMMIT IT IDW YOU HAD ONE JOB JESUS FUCK.

Firefly never has a chance against Snake-Eyes though. He brags a big story, but always in the end either Snake-Eyes brought him crashing down to Earth.

>BUMP IF YOU'RE READING

tk

not a fan of this cover

That wasn't supposed to be a continuation though. It was just a new series.

>tk

what does this mean?

>deja vu

what is she referring to?

what the fuck?

The Red Shadows arc in Devil's Due's G.I. Joe pissed off a lot of fans.

What the fuck?

That image of an old man going berserk is hilarious lol.

What was that about?
