Lets talk about surfing, because fuck it.
>what is surfing?
In this context, surfing is a specific gamemode for Source engine games, namely the Counter Strike series, Team Fortress 2, and GMOD.
It involves sliding along sloped surfaces called ramps to get from one point to another, there are many different types of surf maps, each with their own unique goals.
>what's the point?
You can divide surf maps into two main categories, combat and skill. Combat maps involve players fighting against each other, and skill maps are just about getting from point A to point B. You can further divide maps into arena, linear, trick, etc, but that's less of a distinction.
>how does it work?
To surf, you slide along sloped surfaces. You gain speed by 'falling' to the bottom of the ramp, and jump by moving off the top. While surfing, you must strafe against the ramp using A and D only, pushing W or S will cause you to fall off/not gain speed.
>how do I get started?
There are tons of tutorial videos on youtube and other places, or you could just jump in a surf server. It's an easy skill to learn, but a hard one to master with an incredibly high skill ceiling. There are several surf communities, many with servers specifically for people just starting out.
I fucking never see you assholes discuss this most Based of gamemodes on Sup Forums, so lets change that. It's the most fun you can have in an FPS game, bar none.
Post your favorite/least favorite maps, discuss anecdotes, WR runs, which game is best to surf in, etc etc.
