I've lurked Sup Forums and Sup Forums for years, but I never knew:
1) How do people from all over the world know English? Especially countries where English isn't spoken?
2) How is it being right win or far right in Europe?

I always hear shit like "Hillary/Obama/democrats are considered centre-right and Republicans (cuckservatives) are considered 'far right' " "Europe is so progressive and we laugh at dumb ignorant Americunts. They are so behind the times politically." Trump is seen as Hitler 2.0 even though he is not even Mussolini policy wise. Add hate speech and Holocaust denial laws, and Leaf/Euro Sup Forums users could be ostracized and even imprisoned for their views. At least in the USA we're protected by freedom of speech. I imagine it must be hard to be far right/alt right outside of America. I feel very fortunate to be an American.

>1)
Because of American movies, videogames, tv shows, music, webpages. I've learned Spanish 10 years ago but forgot everything, English, I hear it everyday. But to be honest, the majority of French people suck at English because "muh Francophonie" and because we have a Latin language. We sound funny when we speak English just as Americans sound funny when they speak Spanish.

2)
The people saying that democrats are rightists by European standards are retards. Yes your mainstream politicians are not directly opposing death sentence, religion, guns but that's because they can't. Every country has its own historical context which politicians have to play around. That doesn't mean that if you move an American leftist to Europe, he would turn into a rightwing militant. In the end, left & right have the same principles all over the world. Left prefers justice to order, Right prefers order to justice.

>Add hate speech and Holocaust denial laws, and Leaf/Euro Sup Forums users could be ostracized and even imprisoned for their views
About this, you need to have an audience to be the victim of political correctness. The antiracists foundation won't arrive at soon as I say something mean about Jews and Africans. Sure they might make an example of a guy from time to time just to keep people in track of their BS. But I think it's the same thing in the US.

They go after the people with audience and then from time to time they'll make a guy lose his job or his business, just to remind everyone of their importance.

Thank you for your answers, French user. France especially is known for being super liberal and tolerant of multiculturalism.

English is mandatory here

I mean how do people from obscure countries on pol/int (rare flags) that are far from the English speaking world know English? Like Indonesia for example

Well if you go to Paris, of course you will met super liberal and tolerant people. The same goes if you go to NYC. That doesn't mean the rest of the country is. FN is still the first party in terms of votes.

The problem with France is that we have just the right mix of universalist vocation and historical meanderings to make liberalism extremely potent here. But there's a reaction rising. We did not live through socialism (at least not to its full extent) and thus don't really understand its shortcomings but the same is not true with multiculturalism, since the 70's.

English is the official language of the internet. Because America made it so.

Its the common language. In about 30 years it will be a world language, with mother tongue being secondary.

There was a study recently of kids in EU schools and like 90% of them have a good grasp on English, even those that don't study it.

Right wing in Europe is different, because we're not morons looking at Hollywood politics and TV bullshit. Here the left means wealth redistribution and state involvement, while the right means austerity, cuttinh spending and such.

Since in the US there's only one economic policy, the left is about cultural shit. In Europe that's liberals, who are often right wing.

In many Nordic countries (and Germany) there are no actual socialists. There are social liberals, who are exactly those "leftists" Americans cry about. They are called Social Democrats and they are actually very centrist.

Right wing people in Europe vary. In France right wing people arent really right and the actual ones are hipsters. In Germsny right wing people are easily fooled sheep, for the most part. In many, many countries right wing people are only the clever. In Eastern Europe right wing is usually retards who think it equates to anti-russian (???)

Oh and yes, we laugh at how dumb your politics is and how stupid you are. No paid vacation, job security or any workers rights at all and your biggest fear is socialism. Fucking kek burgers.

>We did not live through socialism

Senpai, you tax cinemas for showing foreign movies. You have government policies regarding your automotive makers. You have a highly regulated market and heavy taxation.

You're hardcore socialists, leaning towards communism.

I am seeing this ring true more and more everyday. It's not so much that countries and provinces are leftist, but more like big cities are progressive while rural areas are conservative and traditional.

The thing is, many influential Enlightenment philosophers and classical liberals came from France. Ex: Voltaire, Descartes, Pascal. Not to mention the French Revolution was much more libetal than the American one. Is that what you mean by universalism and historical meandering?

Europe is infected with "social democracy" or communism lite.

>1) How do people from all over the world know English? Especially countries where English isn't spoken?
it is taught in schools so almost everyone, except older folks should have some knowledge. English being the language to use when you do business with people abroad, mostly for work, makes not knowing english a real liability unless your job is menial labor

easy access to online translators helps, too :)
>2) How is it being right win or far right in Europe?
Different, europe is not very monolithic. Probably most views are accepted in eastern europe, but here until a few years ago, it was completely inconcievable to voice right wing opinions in public without becoming a social outcast. With the failure of many leftleaning policies it changed somewhat, but a stigma is still there.

>Europe is so progressive and we laugh at dumb ignorant Americunts.
Everybody thinks his culture is the best. While saying euro culture is better then african is considered racist, saying its better then american (mostly abbreviated to ami, btw) is considered acceptable. Left double standard in action, if you will.
> Add hate speech and Holocaust denial laws, and Leaf/Euro Sup Forums users could be ostracized and even imprisoned for their views

Reality is more complicated then this simplified statement. It is illegal to deny the holocaust, however general hate-spech laws dont exist (yet. some like to implement those for censorship, same in the us, btw) and freedom of speech is enshrined in the constitution, with only very few limitations.

>I imagine it must be hard to be far right/alt right outside of America.
at a time when new right political parties get over 15% of votes, being moderate right is not that hard. Far right is something i dislike personally, both for their shallow arguements and affinity to violence, so i cannot offer any inside views on that.

English is useful, efficient and beautiful. Though many areas have cultural reasons for not liking it all that much (Germany included) and all nations tend to naturally prefer their own homegrown tongue, it is English more than even French, Spanish or Mandarin that opens doors worldwide. Not everyone who lives in a tiny island kingdom also wants to spend their whole life there, after all.

How do you have an EU flag? It's not a country.

what did you do to get that flag?

Yup. Centrism. In a bad way.

B-belgium?

europe pls go

Well, usually it happens due to a bug in android, but I actually work in the institutions.

This is social democracy. I used the word socialism instead of communism since by American standards those two words seem to be interchangeable but yeah, Communism was what I meant.

I love Germans hating on me or telling me shit about Europe. Senpai, you ARE the EU. We do whatever Germany says. Germany has a complete rule over the EU. Everything right now, the state of the Union, the state of Europe is Germany. We all take orders from Germany.

>Here the left means wealth redistribution and state involvement, while the right means austerity, cuttinh spending and such.
That's pretty much how it is here in the US as well. How are we different again?

>Well, usually it happens due to a bug in android, but I actually work in the institutions.
its not a bug. its a feature
call it traitor detection software if you will :P

>Social Democrats
>not just a rebranding of eurocommunism
wew

fuck off lad

Nah, social democracy usually has right wing economic policies or at least centrist. You're hardcore left. Why do you think you're going through transition like the Balkans did?

Communists had a better grasp of security and economy than social democrats do. Social Democrats are so much worse.

>That God

I kekked

when i was 12 mgs came out and learned a lot of words, then weekly movies, television shows, none of these are dubbed in this country unlike france and germany where they dub every hollywood movie. and then there's internet, and ofcourse 2 hours of english lessons in school a week.

there is a big difference between german politicians telling you what to do and the german public opinion regarding EU.
Around here the EU is mostly seen as some big tax money vacuum cleaner and premier source for undesired laws

*That gif

it was a joke desu

>I used the word socialism instead of communism since by American standards those two words seem to be interchangeable
While I do know the difference, Karl Marx himself used socialism and communism interchangeably quite often.

1. We learn English in school, but that's shitty education and doesn't help at all. I've travelled a lot and studied abroad.
2. Depends. My uni professors are mostly marxist leftist cucks. But people are getting fed up with the leftists' winning elections and such.

Does the EU loathe my country yet?

God damn you are stupid. Our leftist are far more leftist and our right wing is far more right wing.

I assume that at least some of the rare flags are tourists.

The others (at least in south east Asia) know it because SEA languages are kind of fucked up dialects of English.

Filipino and Singaporean for examples.

Filipino is a mix of Spanish, English and the aboriginal language.

Singaporean is pretty much just English phrases with fucked up grammar.

This post is a 6/10.

There was not a great deal of effort put into it, but I don't feel badly for sending it, as I think that It made at least one good point and brought something to the discussion.

Pokémon taught me English when I was six. I also speak 2 other languages and understand some 16 others at a beginner/moderate reading level.

Hollywood
Vidyagames
It is the formal language of the west

Euro politics is nothing like US politics

By universalism, yes, this is what I meant. After the revolution. Paris spread its ideologies to the rest of France in a brutal way. France also tried to spread its to the rest of Europe. And when it didn't work, it tried spreading to the world. This is why our colonization was more about civilizing barbarians instead of the Brit way, i.e. making trade.
And the fact that France is composed of very different region (it can be compared as a mix of all western European cultures) have made French thinkers theorize belonging to the Nation as a contract rather than as sharing the same blood.
As to our meanderings: crusades, inquisition, colonization, religious war, slavery, totalitarianism, giving Jews to Germans, we've done them all, although all of those projects can obviously defended.

>Add hate speech and Holocaust denial laws, and Leaf/Euro Sup Forums users could be ostracized and even imprisoned for their views.

Fun fact, it's also extremely illegal to monitor internet traffic. They still do and I'm probably on a number of kill-lists but for now, they can't act on it because it would expose their listening in.

Doesn't matter, you decide what happens. I don't have german citizenship, I dont vote. You voted for my bosses. You voted for the people who tell me what to do.

You chose all of this.

When you shit on it like you're one of the 27 who had it forced down their throats, you're being hypocritical.

Sure, you probably didn't vote for Merkel (although why not, she had a great platform before she did a 180), but that doesnt mean you can treat the EU as some supranational entity lording over you. It's just an extension of your own politics.

Also the EU actively siphons money away from the south into your pockets and salaries. So don't give me that shit about how bad it is for you. Everyone outside some places in Bavaria and Baden-Wurttemberg owes their high salaries to money the Euro drained from the south into you.

Feels good being born in a country with a relevant first language.

Not sure if you would know this, but do you think y'all are going to just ignore the results of brexit and put article 50 on the back shelf for a couple of years? I already know most of the dignitaries are against it, but are ya just going to let it rot and ignore Britain's decision?

Nah, we don't mind.

Flag might change, parliament WiFi went down.

Feels good being able to be an annoying foreigner without everyone knowing what you're saying

We have no say over brexit. We only negotiate what happens after.

>general hate-spech laws dont exist (yet. some like to implement those for censorship, same in the us, btw)
I've heard crazy stories like in the UK, if you even so much as remotely suggest that immigraton and multiculturalism isn't beneficial, you're instantly smeared as a nazi and can be arrested. I also read news stories of people being arrested for using racial and homosexual slurs. I don't know if it's true or not, but if so, the US is more free than Canada or UK. It would get you labeled intolerant or a bigot, but not arrested.

> How do people from all over the world know English? Especially countries where English isn't spoken?
Media, and information resources being better. Unless it's on Swedish history or local fauna, English articles are always better. And translations too, as well as almost all media, seeing as your target market is like 50 times ours.

Saying that France never had "right wing economic policies or at least centrist" is an exaggeration. And that was not my point, the shortcomings of Communism to me is more starvation, gulag and all those shits rather than just having a shitty economy.

English is easy.

Do you know for certain when its going to happen?

I've had enough of all the fucking about of whether its going to happen or not.

Our far right is only right in social matters. Fiscally they are same social democratic shit

aight thanks for answering, hope all goes well with the European union army draft and all

1. I feel a tiny bit embarrassed that everyone's English is so good when most Brit's language skills are terrible. But on pol, we only see the ones who can speak English, and of course anything that isn't written in English probably isn't important.
2. I still think broadly that the Democrats are further right that the UK's right. However. both the UK and US parties have moved leftwards in the last 30 years. Our liberal elites particularly laugh at the american right, and would sneer smugly in a Pavlovian response to the mention of 'Trump'.
Whatever your views on Trump (I've been impressed by his pr skills for a long while), our politicians have been superlatively stupid - after Trump's call for a ban on muslims, our MPs even debated whether to bar him from the country, and our prime minister and other top politicians insulted him roundly. Well, there was always the possibility that he would be elected, so that's pretty fucking stupid. And they're still butthurt, when we have a fantastic opportunity to get a really great deal for both our countries - Trumps an obvious anglophile, I'm really fucking angry with our conservative government being pissy and liberal over this.

I love hearing French people speak English, or Romanians or Italians, it's funny to me because my parents always argue over who knows English best.

Shut up Spurdo. I know European left is more left than US. That's what my OP said. I disagree though that European right is more right than US. Europe tries very hard to keep rightist down because Nazis.

>the current government is conservative
It saddens me that they quietly passed the snoopers charter just so they can arrest anyone who disagrees with migrants or people who believe there are 2947294 different genders.

True conservatives tell migrants to fuck off and believe there are only 2 genders.

We have English classes in school and english is lingua franca. The right wing is doing better than ever and people are pissed that they can't always say what they want. Gen Z will bring the right wing back on their feet.

Yes, from my experience, Americans are more forgiving of people not speaking perfect English than Brits.

Hah, I'm continually amazed at how much shit every European country seems to takes from Germany. It looks like when Merkel or Schaubel click their fingers and the EU runs to their side, tail wagging obediently. It can't be long before some other country gets pissed off and leaves the EU.

Thats true if only because most Brits can't be bothered to learn basic local language before they go abroad.

I know basic French and German so I'm fine if I go abroad but I can understand why foreigners cant speak perfect english.

Hah, yeah, actually tell me, is it annoying if I try to imitate an accent when speaking English to someone who doesn't know it well? I don't know why I do it, but I think it's somehow easier for them to understand, when I speak with cousins from Spain, Romania or Germany I try to imitate the accents when speaking in English with them.

ACHTUNG

I talked about it with a Brit once and he explained the fact that you're more uncompromising with your language by the fact that it's one of the few remnant of your nation being a Global power.

I don't know if it is true though, I hate hearing North Africans or Subsaharan Africans butchering my language.

...

...

You are a special kind of stupid are you?

regarding money flow, this is older but you can search for newer sources if you think its that different now...
creditwritedowns.com/2010/12/net-payers-receivers-european-union.html

does not look like we gain from it.....
we also can go deeper, with securities for euro bonds and similar but my time is limited
(before you accuse me, germany has violated the rules for the euro stability as well, and afterwards berated others for also doing it, i know. i dont like that)

regarding money within germany germany has a system where the richer states give money to the poorer, but that does not work well either with berlin being the biggest recipient per capita. by far.
>(although why not, she had a great platform before she did a 180)

bahahahahahhahaha; she never had much of a platform of anything and did a 180 for all kinds of things in the past, like nuclear energy.

This is the accent that we speak English with: youtube.com/watch?v=INApFoo7Bbc

We are the Titans. General American is ours. You speak like we do or the world will probably speak down to you.

Don't know what he's on about, in my experience people being uncomprising about English is because they are so stupid they don't understand what people are saying.

ie "I'm in Spain, why the fuck is no-one speaking in English?"

We study english in schools and of course movies and vidya help alot.

American republicans are pretty tame compared to the average finnish working man. However, our politics are castrated because Helsinki is a temple of degeneracy.

>I hate hearing North Africans or Subsaharan Africans butchering my language.
What about Haitians, Quebecois, Cajuns, Creoles speaking French?

The central Harmony of the poole is mine. I am the central one.

>In many Nordic countries (and Germany) there are no actual socialists. There are social liberals, who are exactly those "leftists" Americans cry about. They are called Social Democrats and they are actually very centrist.
No, no, this I'm not gonna take lying down. They are not fucking centrists, not in Europe and sure as fucking hell not to the US.
Our taxes start at 50%. That is not counting our VAT of 25%, the capital gains tax of 30%, the additional 20% income tax if you make too much($46k). 25% if it's way too much($67k). Nor the taxes on pensions or a ton of other shit.

The government is also very restrictive on people's rights. Schools have no freedom in admittance, whatsoever, tuition fees are explicitly illegal as is any form of gifted education not counting getting a tutor outside of school hours.
Grade inflation coupled with the restrictions on admittance has resulted in people with perfect grades and a perfect score on our SAT equivalent routinely having to wait years for highly competitive programs like medicine.

The government is also deeply involved in the housing markets. I forgot the exact figure, but at its worst it could take I think it was 12 years to get a construction permit in some cities. We have housing queues all over the country. With a 20 fucking years long one for the capital. And the prices, despite rent control, are very high in some cities due to the fucking hassle it is to get a construction permit.

They are not centrists, not in any fucking way. They're the reason we have one the highest tax burdens in the world, if not the highest. And that's not getting into V, or MP, honest to God fucking communists that get 12.6% of the votes. V even kept their name "vänsterpartiet kommunisterna" to 1990! Left party - the communists.

...

>Helsinki is a temple of degeneracy.
What's the deal with big cities and degeneracy? It's like one pol user said, humans in cities are like caged animals that develop neurotic and odd sexual behaviors.

...

I had an American as English teacher in university that had a heavy Southern accent but he was losing it for us, speaking like the news anchor (which he learned to do while being host of a local uni radio or something like that).

I thought it was considerate of him.

...

...

...

>How do people from all over the world know English? Especially countries where English isn't spoken?

loooooooooooooooooooooool American "education"

>The government is also very restrictive on people's rights.
Is it true that homeschooling is banned in Norway, Sweden, Germany, etc.? If so, why? So kids have to go through leftist indoctrination and brainwashing and parents can't opt out of it?

We don't have much Haitians in France, the first I met was during my short travel in the US.
Quebecois are laughed at by uppity Parisians, just like any other region accent. I like their accent but most French people don't.
French people don't care about Cajuns, which I find sad. Their accent sound close to the Quebecois to me.
The different Antillais languages and accent are okay by me.

All of those accents are like regions' accents to me, the true French diversity.

1, At least around here it is taught at schools since 2nd or 3rd grade.
2, Medias favorite target for slander.
Funny thing btw, several years ago when True Finns party wasn't yet as big as it is now, during one election there were folks who were saying that they would move to Sweden if TF got voted into parliament.
They got voted in and became the largest opposition party in... i dunno, ever possibly, with government getting formed out of about 4 or 5 different parties.
Fast forward to today and TF is in government with two other parties.
Also, the whiners never went to Sweden as far as i know.

true for germany, there was a case recently.
However apart from state-run schools there are private schools as well, who may have a somewhat different curriculum.

It is not true that schools are leftist brainwashing centres in germany, however. The views taught in school depend on the teachers preferences, many are left-leaning but far for enough to warrant such a general statement. (at least when I went to school, its been some years....)

Interesting, thank you for telling me.

Nowadays, some kindergardens already start teaching english over here, and I also heard something about elementary school starting on it.

As for myself, we had it from the 5th class till the end. British English mostly, but enough to have simple conversations about a good range of topics.

Online gaming, is the real "teacher" though. Any of my friends or acquaintances that have "good" english, got it on the internet. Simply said, it is "English Immersion". It takes no genius to figure out a few new words if they are in the context of the game, and that builds up over time.

Isn't English language a compulsory subject in primary schools and high school throughout most of the world? It surely is here.

>How do people from all over the world know English? Especially countries where English isn't spoken?

We have 4 years of English language in middle school so by the time we reach the age of 15 we already know how to speak some english.

All the games and movies are in english so the youth learns extra fast here. For example some nations dubb the movies while we always keep them subbed.

Then you have 4 more years of english language in highschool and 4 in college if you decide to go there.

Same here, in fact, youre given the choice of taking English either as a 'first language' or 'first additional language' subject.

>We speak 3 languages because half of our population is Bosnian/Serbian

>French people don't care about Cajuns
I'm surprised they even know about Cajuns. And the ones that do see Cajuns as the most backwoods of the backwoods French people. They are notoriously uneducated. I live in south central Louisiana, or Acadiana (Acadienne). While I am not Cajun ethnically (I'm Cuban and Irish descent), I was born and raised here. It truly is a unique and beautiful culture not found anywhere else in the US. It's a shame mostly old people can speak Cajun French. However, we have (Parisian) French immersion schools now. A few years ago, Festival International in Lafayette, where I live, had a French band named Babylon Circus play. It felt like when they said Lafayette and other French names, they felt a cultural connection to here, even if only a little bit.

EU is Left Wing Dictatorship.Outside of Orban all others are traitors to their own people.

Does that number include situations where, say, a Swedish person can speak Norwegian and Danish, because they are more or less mutually intelligible and only require learning a few new words?

Practically, yes. Attendance is mandatory, you need a special reason in order to be allowed to homeschool your kids. And boy, do I mean special.
>So kids have to go through leftist indoctrination and brainwashing and parents can't opt out of it?
Yep. All schools, private(run) or public adhere to the very extensive school law. Excerpt:
The goal of the education within the school system is for children and students to gather and develop knowledge and values. It shall promote all children and students' development and learning as well as a lifelong yearning for knowledge. The education shall also bring about and firmly establish respect for the human rights and the fundamental democratic values which the Swedish society is based on.

The education also aims to, through cooperation with the homes promote the children and students' balanced development into active, creative, competent and responsible individuals and citizens.

So yeah, indoctrination is an explicit goal put on par with learning. This applies to all schools.

Yes it does which is why we speak 3 languages.

Slovene, Serbo-croatian English

That's horseshit, no one understands the Danish. I doubt even they themselves do.
