Been a long time since high-school --- as a "solid opposition" how much effective power would they have to derail most undesirable govt initiatives? (Assuming they're not subverted/bought/blackmailed/co-opted/corrupted/etc.) Better to get 5 years of "nothing, just stagnation" than 5 years of "more of the same, doubling-down". Right now everything is fairly quiet until elections as far as screwing the populace overtly, but of course that wouldn't last.

Never voted before (do not give consent to being governed by agents (s)elected by others!) but if them becoming a strong opposition would make a real measurable difference (ie. they can veto stuff, not just cry about stuff in parliament) then it would be worth it.

"Voting for economic policy" is usually a smokescreen anyway. Whether a voter wants more handouts or lower taxes/tolls/etc, whatever is promised will only be delivered as an absolutely immaterial fraction of the original advertising.
