because the real logical conclusion of atheism is nihilism. every moral system built under atheism is essentially arbitrary and could be changed into absolutely anything else.

with religion on the other hand you need to do is determine what god says you should do. that becomes the final word on everything, can't be questioned, and should always lead to the correct result

there are many atheists who become religious simply because they're dissatisfied with atheistic moral systems. but the fact that atheism is depressing doesn't mean it's necessarily wrong

Because atheism is the most destructive redpill of them all. The majority of people don't have a real purpose in their lives besides getting through it in order to get into heaven. That's why when you take that purpose away from them they get absolutely lost and embrace nihilism to the fullest. God has to be replaced with something sensible, something worth living for and humanity is simply too lazy to do that.
