Systemic problems for making a Le Pen win implausible:
1) Two-round system. It negates the winner takes all logic of the US that imposes a two-party system. During the first round, even smaller parties are important because one can vote for them without messing up the situation too much. It allows a very precise snapshot of the political situation two weeks before the final vote and the result of the small parties will usually have a decent effect on the government's constitution after that; a small party with more than 5 % of the vote supporting the eventual winner can easily get a minister.
2) Non-proportional voting for the legislative elections. Less districts than MPs, and you vote for lists of candidates. The winner of a district gets a bonus of people from that list shoved to power compared to the proportional value, helping create a majority. This favours the two main parties in the lower chamber and severely reduces the minor parties' weight in it. FN always demanded proportional representation there because it would help it a lot, the answer from everyone else has always been "Ha Ha, No!".
3) Indirect election of the Higher chamber: Citizens do not vote for the Senate. Only elected individuals do, which intentionally makes the higher chamber more distant from populism, like the British Lords and unlike the US Senate.
4) Strict control of the political discourse. Some things do not fly, period, plus diffamatory attacks get whacked more easily than in the US. Finally, the airtime is enforced to be equal between all parties during the electoral campaign. There will be the same airtime for all parties, however big they are. Electoral posters may only be displayed on specific boards near polling stations and not in the streets in general etc. Flooding the airwaves with constant propaganda pissing off and polarizing everyone isn't an option.
