I got a minimum wage job working the cash register at an independent pharmacy back in the 80s when the minimum wage was 3.35 or something insanely low. No problem, I was in high school and didn't actually need the money to live.

Once (((the owner))) realized that I was one of those kids who actually showed up on time and did the work (that was a month in), he unilaterally raised my pay. Six months later, I asked for more, and he gave it to me.

Now I make six figures and regularly vacation in the Caribbean with my family.

What's wrong with the economy is that lower socio-economic people used to work their way up to running a family store like a greengrocers, Cafe, takeaway food. The whole family would work there, the kids would either take over the shop, open their own, or do something higher up in the economy.

Now for the same shifty wages but none of those extra supporting benefits like the shop also being your home out the back we have franchises pricing these business out.

Get rid of it but increase the EITC. Also get rid of corporate taxes while we are at it, but increase the top income tax rates or even better raise Georgian, Pigovian and use taxes.

A lot of people point to automation saying the end is near. This is what I do for work.

While we can move to 24/7 robot car washes/gas stations/fast food there are endless areas where automation is going to take decades if not more to address. Work is not going away it is shifting to other areas. NEETS get some work experience, jobs aren't going away.
