isnt whole city isis at this point? they had shit load of time for brainwashing

That blitz to the west was insane in the first place. It made them logistically vulnerable and left without reinforcements.

I don't even know if that much brainwashing was actually needed. ISIS may have banned smoking and can't set up a proper litter service, but they hate the shia controlled central government with passion. I bet they aren't seen as the big bad oppressors by the people there
Thomas Cox

Being Iraqi is suffering I know a guy from north of Mosul that fought on Iran-Iraq war and then on the Gulf War and when the Iraqi War was about to happen he just turned tail and run until he got here Now works 10-12 hours a day as a lorry driver for a grocery market and pops up for an occasional beer on the local bar

yeah I dont think PMU which is basically a militia has some strong logistics units
those guys who pushed to Tal Afar will probably have to endure some pretty hardcore fighting to survive there
the logistics of the whole operation seem to be pretty fucked. Theres a railway leading to Mosul, but I dont think its operational so they have to truck everything in. Not to mention IS still controlls a lot of areas on the way to Mosul and attacks the roads.
Nathaniel Cooper
>Al Kiswah What is that small green pocket there? Shouldn't it be steamrolled after this?
Owen Price
HUGE: Mosul: reports that ISIS retook both Sheyma and Bakr neighborhoods after a huge counter-offensive launched this morning.
reports of a major collapse of golden division's defense lines.
reports that the GD asked Baghdad for reinforecements
reports that iraqi army's divisions of Fallujah will join the fight (which could be very dangerous for the iraqi army in Anbar)
Cameron Perry
>that fucking patch "Hans, are we the baddies?"

That's some syrian slang actually. In Syria you always eat thyme with oil so when two guys get along well you say that they are like thyme and oil. Maybe he meant the SAA was having a grand time in Al tal? I don't know exactly

Mosul:
ISIS claims it retook half of Sheyma neighborhood, so it's not confirmed that it took the whole neighborhood
could be some bomb making shit, but I still lean on druggie. always these lies, they need to cut that out, the truth is enough. You look at the map and everyone has been gassed on all sides 6 million times a day usually
They just commited too much to cutting ISIS off the Mosul-Raqqa highway. I'm not sure why was it so important, since they'd get in Zahreddine's meatgrinder later anyway.

if assad mops up isis and the ohter jihadis turks will lose any justification for beeing there in the first place... so they'll either have to declare war or leave.... they will leave.

They bite a bit there and a bit elsewhere, rebels are short on ammo and manpower and they have to commit.
Anyway I don't think that was planned, since they'd gladly hold on some gainz, but Hezbollah & Harakat al-Nujaba know what they're doing.
Xavier Ramirez
My guts tell me planned withdrawal, just look how they steamrolled their defenses. (militants deploy forces to re-capturing whilst the army goes to the airport and steamrolls other parts.)
Blake Reyes
you know, i kind of hope Mosul stays a collossal fuckup for just a little bit more just to spite king nigger

They likely didn't have time to shore up defenses and pulled back to save bodies. Remember, if Aleppo turns into a battle of attrition then the smart money is on the SAA since they can bring in reinforcements. Every Islamist killed holding ground or seizing ground is an Islamist that can't be replaced. There's just no sense in losing men and lowering unit morale by trying to hold ground that is untenable.
Ian Gonzalez
>Algeria is up next for a big civil war after the current President dies >Refugges are going to flood right to France

This makes sense, don't won't to occupy really shit positions for no reason.
I see. Well whatever action happened, it only drains the remaining rebels. Although if they have the power to push back that hard still, It could mean E.Aleppo can hold out maybe into 2017
It makes sense, especially in that context.
